ISWAMI To Focus On Strategic Cooperation To Tackle Current Challenges
GENERAL
KUALA LUMPUR, May 31 (Bernama) -- The Ikatan Setiakawan Malaysia-Indonesia (ISWAMI), a Malaysia-Indonesia journalist forum, will focus on strengthening strategic cooperation to ensure the dissemination of accurate and responsible information, with the aim of deepening mutual understanding between Malaysians and Indonesians.
ISWAMI Malaysia president Ashwad Ismail said that the cooperation between ISWAMI Malaysia and Indonesia, established in 2005 as a bridge to strengthen media relations between the two countries, must now take into account current challenges, including the growing influence of artificial intelligence (AI).
'In this era of uncertainty and a divided world, coupled with the wave of artificial intelligence (AI) that is impacting all aspects of society and national life, the media, as originators of ideas and nation-builders, must take on a more proactive role in addressing challenges and promoting regional prosperity,' he said in a statement today.
He said this in response to a meeting between Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil and Indonesian Communications and Digital Minister Meutya Viada Hafid in Tokyo, where both parties highlighted ISWAMI's vital role in strengthening media relations between the two countries.
In this regard, Ashwad said ISWAMI Malaysia will hold follow-up discussions with Indonesian media partners to draft a joint action plan that includes journalist exchanges, professional training programmes, and the organisation of regional media forums and dialogues.
He said this initiative aims to strengthen the media capacity of both countries by promoting media accountability through inclusive and solution-oriented journalism.
Ashwad added that in an era of digital challenges and the rapid, complex spread of information, close cooperation among media organisations is crucial to ensure the delivery of accurate and responsible information and to foster mutual understanding between the people.
He emphasised that, driven by the spirit of camaraderie, ISWAMI believes media professionals, journalists, and content creators can serve as vital agents in building shared prosperity between the societies of both countries.
'ISWAMI not only serves as a bridge to strengthen the network of professional journalists but also acts as a catalyst for fostering understanding and rapport among the people through more inclusive and forward-looking storytelling,' he said.

Nurul Izzah neither confirms nor denies Rafizi's second deputy post suggestion
KUALA LUMPUR: Nurul Izzah Anwar today neither confirmed nor denied claims that she had suggested the creation of an appointed post of second PKR deputy president for Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli. "I believe that matters spoken in confidence between friends should remain between them," the PKR deputy president said in a brief response to the New Straits Times. She added that her intentions had always been to foster unity within the party. "It is my sincere effort to build bridges in the party. "My focus now is on fulfilling my haj pilgrimage, and I pray for the well-being of all Malaysians. I remain committed to strengthening our party's unity and values," she said. Nurul Izzah's remarks came after Rafizi said that he had turned down a suggestion for him to be appointed as the second PKR deputy president. The Pandan member of Parliament said he had long made up his mind not to accept any leadership position within the party. On May 23, Izzah was elected as the new PKR deputy president with 9,803 votes, defeating incumbent Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli, who garnered 3,866 votes. Following his defeat, Rafizi submitted his resignation letter to step down as Economy Minister. He said his refusal was consistent with a decision he had made from the outset, which was already known to many within the party.

Drama around Tengku Zafrul's exit seems orchestrated, says Kedah Umno
Kedah Umno information chief Shaiful Hazizy Zainol Abidin (left) has labelled Tengku Zafrul Aziz, who is the investment, trade and industry minister, as a 'first-class political tourist'. PETALING JAYA : Kedah Umno is uncomfortable with what it has called 'a drama' and 'political manoeuvres' orchestrated by PKR following Tengku Zafrul Aziz's decision to quit Umno. Kedah Umno information chief Shaiful Hazizy Zainol Abidin said the statements released by PKR vice-president Amirudin Shari and PKR Youth chief Kamil Munim make the entire matter seem 'planned and celebrated'. 'The series of statements from PKR figures seem to send a direct message to Umno that etiquette does not matter in our cooperation and that political moves can be arranged without regard for the sensitivities of the main partners in the unity government,' he said in a statement today. Shaiful called for a stop to the 'drama' surrounding Tengku Zafrul for the sake of stable, honest and sincere political cooperation. 'We cannot continue to sacrifice our principles for the sake of power. Umno is ready to cooperate, not to be a plaything in the political narratives of others.' Shaiful also branded Tengku Zafrul, who is the investment, trade and industry minister, a 'first-class political tourist'. Yesterday, Amirudin said Tengku Zafrul's entry into PKR could bolster the party's credibility and expressed confidence that they could work well together. Kamil said Tengku Zafrul, being a corporate figure, could bring 'added value' to the party given the latter's experience. However, PKR secretary-general Fuziah Salleh said any such application to join the party would have to go through the usual processes, taking into account the views and perspectives of the party's partners in the unity government. Tengku Zafrul's decision confirms rumours that spread in February that he would be leaving Umno and joining PKR before his term as a senator expires at the year end.

Nurul Izzah mooted 2nd deputy president's post, says Rafizi
Nurul Izzah Anwar had made the offer three days before PKR delegates cast their votes in the central leadership elections, said Rafizi Ramli. AMPANG JAYA : Rafizi Ramli who was defeated at the PKR elections last month, says Nurul Izzah Anwar had previously suggested the creation of an appointed post of PKR deputy president for Rafizi to fill. Rafizi said the offer, which he rejected, was made by Nurul Izzah at a meeting three days before PKR delegates cast their ballots in the party's central leadership elections. 'When she met me, she tried to propose having an appointed deputy president – me. But even if it were to be an appointed party president, I'm not interested, all the more other party posts,' he said today. 'Because this isn't a question of posts but the message we want to convey,' he said when met at an event organised by his Pandan parliamentary office here today. Rafizi failed to secure re-election as deputy president last month, losing to Nurul Izzah who received 9,803 votes to his 3,866 votes. He subsequently offered his resignation from his Cabinet post as economy minister. He said today that he will resume his duties as a normal MP and the head of the party's Pandan division. He is on leave from his official duties while his resignation is effective June 17. Rafizi had previously revealed that he had rejected a last-ditch appeal from Nurul Izzah to help her after the party polls ended. Rafizi said he believed that her plea stemmed from concerns over the new leadership lineup, which she feared would bring trouble for Anwar Ibrahim and PKR.
