Samvardhana Motherson Q1 performance
SAMIL's consolidated net profit fell 48.5 per cent year-on-year (Y-o-Y) to ₹512 crore against ₹994 crore in the year-ago period, dragged by softer margins and higher costs. Revenue rose 4.7 per cent Y-o-Y to ₹30,212 crore from ₹28,868 crore, aided by steady volumes across geographies. Ebitda dropped 11.4 per cent Y-o-Y to ₹2,458 crore, with operating margins slipping to 8.1 per cent in Q1FY26, from 9.6 per cent last year.
Brokerage views: Cautious short term, constructive long term
Motilal Oswal noted that adjusted PAT of ₹620 crore missed its estimate by a wide margin due to multiple headwinds pressuring margins. Management indicated most cost escalations were temporary, expecting performance to revive from Q3 as Q2 tends to be seasonally weak in Europe. The brokerage cut FY26 and FY27 earnings estimates by 9 per cent and 2 per cent, respectively, but retained its 'Buy' rating with a revised target price of ₹114 (24x Jun'27E EPS).
Nuvama said revenue growth of 5 per cent Y-o-Y was in line with expectations, but Ebitda missed estimates by 5 per cent due to delayed European model launches, integration adjustments, and greenfield start-up costs. It cut FY26E/27E Ebitda by 4 per cent/5 per cent, but maintained a 'Buy' rating, citing strong management, robust order book, and rising content per vehicle. Its revised TP stands at ₹110 (earlier ₹117). ALSO READ | Apollo Hospitals Q1: Analysts up targets, share outlook; buy, sell or hold?
JM Financial pointed to structural challenges in the EU, tariff-associated costs, and greenfield start-up expenses as key drags on margins, which at 8.1 per cent were 100 bps below its estimates. While global light vehicle demand remains subdued, SAMIL is outperforming through higher content per vehicle driven by premiumisation.
Meanwhile, JM expects near-term margin pressures to persist given weak demand in developed markets and ramp-up costs, and has trimmed FY26E/FY27E Ebitda margin forecasts by 20 bps/30 bps. Still, it maintained a 'Buy' rating with a March 2027 target of ₹110 (19x FY27E EPS), flagging recovery in global LV demand as a key monitorable.
Jefferies reportedly maintained its 'Buy' stance with a reduced target of ₹110 (from ₹120), noting that margins should improve as European cost optimisation and plant ramp-ups take hold. The brokerage also highlighted SAMIL's ongoing diversification into non-auto segments, especially electronics. ALSO READ |
Samvardhana Motherson outlook: Temporary pain, structural positives
Across the board, brokerages see Samvardhana Motherson's Q1 weakness as transitory, with cost headwinds, delayed programmes, and plant ramp-ups expected to normalise over the next few quarters. Geographic diversification, a proximity-to-customer model, and expansion into higher-value segments like automotive electronics position SAMIL to navigate trade risks and macro softness.
Consensus remains positive, with all four brokerages maintaining 'Buy' ratings despite trimming near-term forecasts. The Street expects margin recovery from H2FY26, backed by operating leverage, greenfield scale-up benefits, and integration synergies from recent acquisitions.

Indian indices open flat as FPI outflows weigh on sentiment despite govt boosters
Market experts noted that factors such as monetary and fiscal stimulus, good monsoons, benign inflation, and targeted consumption boosters should ideally have pushed Indian markets higher. The Nifty 50 index opened at 24,965.80, slipping by 14.85 points or 0.06 per cent. Meanwhile, the BSE Sensex started the day at 81,669.09, registering a modest gain of 24.70 points or 0.03 per cent. New Delhi: Indian stock markets opened flat on Tuesday as continuous foreign portfolio investor (FPI) outflows kept indices in check, even as the government recently announced several consumption-boosting measures. Ajay Bagga, Banking and Market Expert, told ANI 'What has held back the markets has been a relatively higher valuation in an underwhelming earnings recovery scenario. As earnings rise, Indian markets will rise ahead of these. That could happen by the next quarter as the festive season boost meets the government boosters. At some point, Indian markets will take off in anticipation.' On the global front, Bagga said that the easing of tensions between India and China, along with Chinese assurances on supply of rare earths, fertilisers, and tunnel boring machines, as well as expectations of large FDI inflows, should have improved investor sentiment. India is also making efforts to address the impact of punitive tariffs imposed by the US on key labour-intensive export sectors. In addition, the country is working to forge stronger economic partnerships at the geostrategic level. These measures will safeguard jobs and benefit India's trade outlook in the coming months. Another factor that markets are closely watching is the movement of FPIs. Large short positions taken by FPIs have added pressure on the indices. Once these reverse, Indian markets could see sharp short covering, potentially helping indices climb to all-time highs by the end of the year. In the broader market, the Nifty 100 was down by 0.08 per cent, while the Nifty Midcap 100 slipped 0.05 per cent. The Nifty Small Cap 100, however, gained 0.11 per cent in the opening session. Among sectoral indices on NSE, mixed trends were seen. Nifty Auto rose 0.17 per cent, while Nifty FMCG declined by 0.17 per cent. Nifty Pharma was down 0.20 per cent, Nifty Realty slipped 0.14 per cent, and Nifty Oil & Gas fell 0.15 per cent. Vikram Kasat, Head – Advisory at PL Capital, said, 'Nifty continued its bullish momentum. On the hourly chart, there was a gap zone between 24,993-25,046 levels which will be the immediate resistance. Clearing this can push the Nifty higher towards 25,250, which is a make-or-break zone from a medium-term perspective. The 24,852-24,673 range will be the support zone.' In the Asian markets, trading sentiment was largely weak on Tuesday morning. Japan's Nikkei 225 index declined by 1.87 per cent, Hong Kong's Hang Seng lost 0.77 per cent, Taiwan's weighted index slipped by more than 2 per cent, while South Korea's KOSPI fell by 1.98 per cent at the time of filing this report. Thousands of Airbus UK workers to go on strike for ten days over pay
Thousands of Airbus workers in the United Kingdom will go on a strike for ten days from the next month over demand for better pay, trade union Unite said Wednesday. The workers' strikes can disrupt the wing production for Airbus's commercial and military aircraft programmes(Bloomberg) Unite, which represents more than 3,000 aircraft fitters and engineers employed at Airbus, said the strike could disrupt the production of aircraft wings, Reuters reported. The trade union said 90 per cent of the workers voting in a ballot had opted for industrial action for their demands, which would take place unless Airbus makes an improved pay offer. Workers' strikes could disrupt wing production, delay deliveries The strikes, which have been planned for September 2-3 and September 10-11, with other dates yet to be decided upon, can disrupt the wing production for the European planemaker's commercial and military aircraft programmes, while also delaying deliveries. However, in a statement, Airbus said that they were not concerned about the impact on deliveries at present. 'We are not currently concerned about the impact on year end deliveries,' the planemaker said. Airbus said that it had extended a 'competitive and fair' pay offer to the workers in 2025, with previous pay increases coming up to more than 20 per cent in the last three years, Reuters reported. Airbus stated that the pay was in addition to a bonus payment in April of 2,644 pounds ($3,569). However, Unite has stated that it has demanded a pay offer from Airbus which would reflect the rising inflation and the increased cost of living. This comes even as data published on Wednesday shows that the British inflation stood at 3.8 per cent in July, its highest in 18 months, Reuters reported. Sue Partridge, Airbus UK's country manager for commercial aircraft, said that the planemaker is prioritising the need to reach a resolution with the trade union which would ensure 'long-term competitiveness' and the success of Airbus in UK. Sharon Graham, Unite's general secretary, said that Airbus had been making billions in profits, adding that workers also deserve a fair deal. 'Our members are simply seeking fairness not favours,' Graham said.

Nazara Tech shares plunge nearly 13% as gaming Bill drags sentiment
Shares of Nazara Tech fell as much as 12.82 per cent to close at ₹1,221.65 apiece on the BSE on Wednesday after India finalised a draft legislation to ban all forms of online real-money gaming (RMG). The draft Bill, cleared by the Union Cabinet on Tuesday, is likely to bar 'offering, aiding, abetting, inducing, or otherwise in the offering of any online money gaming service and declares it as an offence'. However, Nazara Tech clarified that the company has no direct exposure to RMG businesses. In an exchange filing, it said it has indirect exposure through its 46.07 per cent stake in Moonshine Technologies (PokerBaazi). Since Nazara Tech does not have majority stake or exercise control in the firm, Moonshine's revenue is not consolidated in its financial statements and has no impact on the reported revenue, it said. The contribution to PAT by Moonshine as a share of profit and loss by associates was negative in the April-June quarter.
