After a thrilling 11-10 comeback win over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday, the Chicago Cubs have made a flurry of roster moves prior to Wednesday's game.
Rule 5 Draft selection Gage Workman was designated for assignment. Workman impressed in spring training to the tune of a .365 batting average and 1.125 OPS. His major league stats were nowhere close to the same, as he has collected only two hits with both of them coming against a position player pitching.
To replace Workman on the roster, the Cubs signed Nicky Lopez to a one-year major league deal. Lopez spent the spring with Chicago before being released prior to opening day.
Much like Workman, Lopez was excellent in the spring, batting .450 with an OPS of 1.092 in 20 at-bats. He signed a major league deal with the Los Angeles Angels but after two games and six at-bats was released and has now found his way back to the Cubs.

To make room on the roster for Pomeranz, the Cubs sent right-hander Gavin Hollowell to Triple-A Iowa.
Hollowell was instrumental in Chicago's comeback on Tuesday, as he pitched two scoreless innings against the high-powered Dodgers offense. With his performance on Tuesday, it is likely that Hollowell will not stay in Triple-A very long before being recalled to the major leagues.
Pomeranz has not pitched in the major leagues since the 2021 season, so it will be intriguing to see what he can provide out of the bullpen for Chicago. He will join Caleb Thielbar as the only two left-handers in the Cubs bullpen.

Man breaks world record after cycling around Lake Huron to raise money for multiple sclerosis research
A man from the Chicago area just broke the Guinness World Record for circumnavigating over 1,000 miles around Lake Huron by bicycle, and it was all to help raise money to end multiple sclerosis. "Rode 600 miles, slept for just over 3 hours and then finished 400 miles straight to the finish line," Guinness World Record holder Phil Fox said. Fox, a recreational cyclist, crossed back into America around 3:30 a.m. Sunday, after circumnavigating over 1,000 miles around Lake Huron by bicycle. He broke a world record by completing the feat in 69 hours and 33 minutes. The reason he spent nearly the entirety of the past three days cycling was to raise money for multiple sclerosis research. "We've raised nearly $250,000 for the National MS Society, and we're really close to our $10,000 goal for this particular event, and we're hoping we can get there," Fox said. In 2011, Fox's two best friends were diagnosed with MS. Since that time, it's become his passion to embark on unfathomably long bike rides to raise money. Fox has circumnavigated every Great Lake except Lake Superior. He says that's up next. As of Sunday evening, Phil's trip around Lake Huron has raised over $9,500, and he tells us they're still accepting donations at

While Chicago was dealt its fifth loss on the year, former Sky head coach Teresa Weatherspoon took to Instagram to repost a motivational quote from Billionaire Hustle (@billionaire_hustle): "Keep your goals quiet. Not everyone watching is clapping," alongside an image of NBA legend Kobe Bryant. Weatherspoon previously coached the Sky during Angel Reese's standout rookie campaign in 2024.
