Who is Morgan Riddle? A fashion influencer at Wimbledon who attends boyfriend Taylor Fritz's matches

LONDON (AP) — Morgan Riddle's effect on Wimbledon semifinalist Taylor Fritz's rise in the rankings has been significant. He says so himself.
Riddle has been at the All England Club this year and others in her role as a fashion influencer, telling her hundreds of thousands of social media followers how tennis has become 'the chicest sport in the world.' She's been featured in Vogue, Harper's Bazaar and the New York Times' Style section.
She was seated at Centre Court on Friday
for her boyfriend Fritz's match against Carlos Alcaraz
.
Riddle frequently is at tournaments to cheer for him. They were featured in the Netflix tennis documentary '
Break Point
.'
Morgan Riddle went from Minnesota to New York and multiple internships
Riddle, 27, is a Minnesota native who attended Wagner College in New York City.
'By the end of my junior year, I had completed seven internships,' she said in a Wagner College video about the Class of 2019 member.
Riddle explained that the internships included gigs at a magazine, a newspaper, a government office, a coffee company startup and a real estate company, with tasks including social media.
Riddle and Fritz met about five years ago.
Taylor Fritz credits Morgan Riddle's influence
Fritz was the U.S. Open runner-up
last September — his first appearance in a Grand Slam final — and reached a career-high ranking of No. 4 in November.
He says it's important to have someone 'push you in the right direction all the time, supporting you.' He spoke about Riddle's role after his 6-3, 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 (4) victory over Karen Khachanov in the quarterfinals.
'There's an obvious correlation between my results and ranking and the time we've been together,' he said. 'I would have to say she's been a big help to me, just kind of keeping me focused, having someone who cares and just pushes you to just do better and do the right things, be healthier.'
Morgan Riddle promotes fashion and explains 'tenniscore'
Riddle has worked with the All England Club to create video segments called 'Wimbledon Threads.'
Wearing brands such as Chanel and Jimmy Choo, she details trends like 'tenniscore.'
''Tenniscore' isn't just about pleated skirts and vintage polos. It's about aspirational minimalism with a competitive edge,' she said in a video last week entitled '
How Wimbledon made tennis chic
.'
She added that Wimbledon has 'helped tennis become the chicest sport in the world.'
Riddle isn't afraid to throw a few zingers.
'Of course we're here for the tennis but what was once a strictly sporting event has also turned into a global fashion spectacle. I know some of you may not want to hear that but just because the fact annoys you, doesn't make it any less true,' she said.
That segment has 12,300 views as of Friday — a different Wimbledon video featuring a kid asking Aryna Sabalenka about pancakes has more than double that.
Riddle's clips on TikTok, where she has nearly 600,000 followers, are more popular. She also has more than 450,000 followers on Instagram.
Fritz often takes photos of her to post on social media.
'I've definitely gotten a lot better over the last couple of years but very reluctantly,' he said
in an interview with The Associated Press
last year. 'It's very embarrassing in public when I'm taking pictures (and) people are looking at me taking pictures of her. But you got to do what you got to do sometimes. She also takes good pictures of me.'

Japanese pop idol Kenshin Kamimura convicted of indecent assault but avoids jail in Hong Kong

HONG KONG (AP) — Japanese pop idol Kenshin Kamimura was found guilty of a charge of indecent assault on a female interpreter in a Hong Kong court Wednesday before some emotional fans. Kamimura, a former member of a Japanese boy group named ONE N' ONLY, was arrested in the southern Chinese city in March. In the same month, his contract was terminated due to a serious compliance violation. In April, he pleaded not guilty. He allegedly touched the interpreter's thigh repeatedly during a celebratory dinner at a restaurant. During the trial last month, the interpreter testified through a live video link that Kamimura had invited her to a bathroom elsewhere. After she dismissed the request and told him she had a boyfriend, Kamimura continued to touch her thigh, she said. The defense argued the interpreter exaggerated her claims and the alleged bathroom invitation might not have been based on improper motives. Judge Peter Yu handed down the conviction Wednesday, saying Kamimura touched the intrepreter in a caressing nature that implicitly carried a sexual undertone and had indecent intent. After the verdict was announced, a few of Kamimura's fans wept in the courtroom. But Kamimura looked relieved when the judge issued a fine of 15,000 Hong Kong dollars (about $1,900) and no prison term. The maximum penalty for the charge is 10 years of imprisonment. The singer's supporters, including some from Japan and mainland China, formed long lines inside the court building to secure a seat in the main courtroom before the hearing. Others from mainland China who attended said they were not fans but wanted to learn more about the case, especially after seeing criticism of the female interpreter online. University student Betty Zhong from the Chinese city of Shenzhen said she was not a Kamimura fan but had attending the court hearings in Hong Kong because a friend likes the J-pop idol and she wanted to know what happened. She said she was surprised Kamimura was charged during a visit to Hong Kong. 'News reports are not so comprehensive. When I come here, I can understand it holistically and the explainations from both sides,' she said. Kamimura also is an actor who appeared in several TV dramas including the boys' love series 'Our Youth' and the popular drama 'Ossan's Love Returns.'

PSG set to meet Tottenham in UEFA Super Cup

UDINE, Italy (AP) — Paris Saint-Germain get back on the hunt for trophies in the UEFA Super Cup against Tottenham on Wednesday. It's the annual early-season match between the winners of the Champions League and Europa League — and PSG starts as the big favorite. Coming off winning the treble, including the Champions League for the first time, the Qatari-backed team from the French capital will look to bounce back from losing to Chelsea in the final of the Club World Cup in the United States. Facing them at Stadio Friuli in Udine is another London club in Tottenham, which ended a 17-year wait for silverware by winning the Europa League by beating Manchester United in the final. Spurs have a new manager in Thomas Frank but also some big absentees, with attacking midfielders James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski injured and long-time star Son Heung-min recently sold to LAFC. It is Tottenham's first appearance in the Super Cup. PSG has played in it once, losing 9-2 on aggregate to Juventus over two legs in 1996. PSG's players have just returned to training after the Club World Cup, which extended last season to mid-July. Tottenham should be more match-sharp, having played a raft of friendlies including against Arsenal and Bayern Munich. ___

Venus Williams to get new Barbie as part of Inspiring Women collection

Venus Williams has a new Barbie, this one part of the dollmaker's Inspiring Women collection. Williams' doll, to be released Friday, will celebrate the tennis great and pay equity champion with a doll wearing the uniform she wore while winning Wimbledon in 2007. Williams' win for the fifth of her seven grand slam titles was the first time a woman received equal prize money as the men at a top-level tournament. The doll, suggested to retail for $38, will feature Williams in all white with a green gem necklace, wristband, racket and tennis ball. Williams also had a Barbie doll released in May 2024 that highlighted nine trailblazing female athletes as part of Barbie's 65th anniversary celebration. ___ AP tennis: The Associated Press
