Abbotsford Canucks' Aatu Räty Leaves Game 2 Against Texas Stars

Only a few minutes into his return to the lineup, Abbotsford Canucks centre Aatu Räty left Game 2 of the team's Western Conference Final matchup against the Texas Stars due to injury. Before returning tonight, Räty had missed the AHL Canucks' past eight Calder Cup Playoff games. His last game was Game 2 of Abbotsford's five-game series against the Coachella Valley Firebirds. Abbotsford Canucks Live: Follow the updates from Game 2 of the AHL West finals

The Abbotsford Canucks play Game 2 of their AHL Western Conference final series tonight at the Abbotsford Centre, and recent history is on their side. The Vancouver Canucks' farmhands take a 1-0 lead on the Texas Stars into the night, thanks to a 3-2 overtime triumph over the Stars on Thursday at the Abbotsford Centre. In the last three Western finals, the team that won Game 1 has also been victorious in Game 2, and each time that team has also gone on to win the series. The series winner represents the West in the Calder Cup AHL championships. Abbotsford (44-24-2-2) were three points better than Texas (42-26-3-0) in the regular season. The teams didn't meet at all in league play. This is the fourth season that Vancouver has had its farm team in Abbotsford. Coach Manny Malhotra's crew has won three playoff rounds already this year. The club won two rounds combined in the previous three years. A little foreshadowing, as it were, with the Aatu Räty inclusion? Pregame prep from the Stars side. No lineups posted as of yet but Abbotsford PXP man Brandon Astle reporting that Aatu Räty is back tonight after missing the past eight games with injury. A sellout is expected. Astle said on the broadcast that there's even a resale market tonight. sewen@
