Car bursts into flames on M60 as plume of black smoke seen billowing into sky with traffic grinding to a halt

The Sun15-05-2025

TRAFFIC has been stopped on the M60 after a car burst into flames on the busy motorway.
A blazing fire erupted from the back of a black car on the busy road last night between junctions 16 and 17.

Plumes of black smoke could be seen billowing from the flaming car as motorists stopped nearby.
National Highways halted traffic as fire crews raced to the scene to tackle the inferno.
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service sent two fire engines to fight the blaze.
Crews were in attendance for around 20 minutes before successfully extinguishing the fire.
With closed lanes drivers faced long queues until the fire was extinguished and the road reopened.
All lanes of the motorway were reopened by 12:30am this morning.

Skoda Enyaq Coupe Driving, Engines & Performance

Driving What is it like to drive? Few cars are easier to drive than this. Settle yourself in, pop it into Drive or B mode (you don't even need to press a Start button), and off you go. The steering is well weighted, the accelerator and brake pedals progressively smooth, and pitch and roll well contained. Lovely jubbly. The ride is on the firm side, with bumps and lumps a little jarring in the cabin. But the same could be said for any two-tonne-plus electric SUV. Dynamic Chassis Control is a fairly expensive option that we probably wouldn't bother with. Still, it breezes along nicely at motorway speed, with minimal wind and road noise. Advertisement - Page continues below Sportline models and above get paddles on the steering wheel to adjust the amount of brake regeneration, though we mostly stuck it in its strongest 'B' mode setting. But even then the regen isn't particularly strong – this isn't one of those cars that you can drive using just the accelerator pedal. Is it quick? Zero to 62mph takes 6.7 seconds in all but the vRS model. That car gets there in 5.4s. Whatever Enyaq Coupe you go for you won't be short of torque, with two-wheel drive models sending 402lb ft through the rear wheels and four-wheel drive adding another 99lb ft through the fronts for extra traction. Most of that torque is found low down, too, which means it's pleasingly nippy around town, despite its heft. So it's quick. But not raucously so. Aim it at a corner and the lack of steering feel means you'll struggle to pick a consistent line. At least the accelerator and brake pedals are well judged. Advertisement - Page continues below If it's dynamism you want from an electric car like this, give the Ford Mustang Mach-E a go. The Jaguar I-Pace was brilliant too... note the past tense, because Jag doesn't make it any more. Is there much difference in efficiency? The SUV should achieve marginally less than the Coupe, but don't expect a drastic difference. The Coupe is officially rated at up to 4.2 mi/kWh in the rear-wheel drive 85, and up to 3.9 mi/kWh in the all-wheel drive 85x and vRS. As ever though, those figures are in laboratory conditions and should be taken with a pinch of salt. Still, we got very close averaging 4.1mi/kWh in warm spring weather in the rear-wheel drive 85, which works out at 315 miles real world range – well down on the claim of 365, but actually a very good return. Expect less in colder conditions, mind. Variants We Have Tested 6 Skoda Enyaq Coupe iV vRS review: wannabe hot hatch gets more power... that it didn't need

Buy Skoda Enyaq Coupe Price, PPC or HP

Buying What should I be paying? Prices start from £46,200 for the entry-level 2WD Edition 85, rising to £50,650 for the 4WD 85x SportLine and £53,560 for the vRS. Yeah, Skoda operates north of fifty grand now and has done for a while. On lease, you're looking at around £445 for the 85-badged car and £505 for the 85x, on a four-year agreement with a £10k deposit through Skoda's own finance scheme. Shop around and you might do better. Advertisement - Page continues below Worth noting that the entry-level Enyaq SUV is available with a 58kWh battery and lesser SE L trim, meaning a starting price of £39,000, whereas the Enyaq Coupe jumps straight in with the 77kWh battery and Edition trim. Like-for-like, you're looking at a premium of about £2k for that fashion statement roofline. In terms of its VW Group rivals, the VW ID.5 also gets a smaller battery option meaning it starts significantly cheaper. Like-for-like it's a couple of hundred quid cheaper too. Shows you how much VW has dropped the ball with its supposedly more upmarket brand... An Audi Q4 Sportback e-tron is a couple of grand more than both. What are the trims like? The entry Enyaq Coupe comes very well equipped, purely because it's not really a base level at all. Included are 19in alloys, LED matrix headlights, a full length fixed glass roof, massaging drivers' seat, tri-zone climate control, wireless charging with cooling function, front and rear parking sensors plus rear camera, adaptive cruise control, keyless entry, and… we need a breather. Sportline throws in 20in alloys, sports bumpers, illuminated 'Tech-Deck' face (read lights in the grille), gloss black detailing, sports suspension (which lowers the body by 15mm at the front and 10mm at the rear), three-spoke steering wheel with adjustable brake regen paddles, aluminium pedals, posher interior trim, head-up display, an upgraded CANTON sound system and an area view camera. Advertisement - Page continues below The range-topping vRS car gets an even fancier bodykit and vRS badging including exclusive alloy wheels, plus more powerful brakes to deal with the added power, as well as the love-it-or-loathe-it signature Hyper Green paintjob. Skoda's latest wheeze is that you can pick your specification and then you have a choice of optional 'Lounge trims' to upgrade the inside of the car (apart from on the SportLine model). There are various other extras you can go for, though it's a bit strange that a heat pump is another £1,100 on a car this expensive. Adaptive dampers too are a pricey option (£1,700-£3,950). Avoid. What's the best spec? The entry-level single motor Edition 85 is the pick of the bunch here, thanks to its price, perfectly adequate performance figures, and superior range (365 miles). But unless you're truly hankering after that coupe shape, don't bother and stick with the regular SUV. Final thing: the warranty is three years/60,000 miles and the battery eight years/100,000 miles. That's a bit stingy when you think Kia and Hyundai have been offering seven years for yonks...
