MoCI signs strategic partnership programme with KIPO

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has signed a strategic partnership programme with the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO), representing a significant milestone in the development of Qatar's National Intellectual Property Strategy and the enhancement of institutional and human capacities in this key domain.
The agreement was signed by Mohammed bin Hassan Al-Malki, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, and Wan Ki Kim, Commissioner of the Korean Intellectual Property Office.
The partnership stems from the Memorandum of Understanding on Intellectual Property signed between the State of Qatar and the Republic of Korea on 15 June 2023 in Seoul. The memo laid the groundwork for comprehensive bilateral cooperation in the field of intellectual property, and the newly signed programme represents a concrete step forward in its implementation.
The programme is designed to support the formulation of an integrated national strategy for intellectual property in the State of Qatar. It also aims to implement a range of advanced initiatives to strengthen both institutional structures and human capital, thereby contributing to the country's shift towards an innovation-driven economy and supporting the evolution of legal and regulatory frameworks.
Under the programme, both parties will collaborate in several priority areas. These include the development of human resources in Qatar's intellectual property ecosystem, benchmarking local practices against global standards, and conducting stakeholder consultations to identify the most suitable intellectual property systems for national needs. The programme will also facilitate the transfer of knowledge and expertise from the Korean side, with a focus on building the technical competencies of Qatari professionals working in this vital field.
The Ministry and KIPO will jointly monitor and assess the progress of the programme to ensure the achievement of its objectives and to deepen cooperation between the two countries in the domain of
intellectual property.

Qatar, China sign MoU to increase air transport rights

Qatar Exports strengthens presence of Qatari companies in Saudi market
Doha The Qatar Exports, affiliated with Qatar Development Bank (QDB), hosted its first high-level official roundtable event in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen the presence of Qatari companies in the Saudi market and foster cooperation between Qatari exporters and Saudi investors and stakeholders across various sectors. The event brought together ten active Qatari companies from the construction and contracting sectors, alongside a range of experts, key stakeholders, and leading Saudi developers, including Diriyah Company, Soudah Development, and Red Sea Global. Discussions focused on exploring avenues of collaboration and gaining deeper insight into the Saudi market to help pave the way for Qatari companies seeking to enter the Kingdom and contribute to new development projects. This roundtable marks the first in a planned series of four similar discussions aimed at expanding Qatar's business footprint in Saudi Arabia. It offered Qatari companies a valuable opportunity to gain a comprehensive understanding of the Saudi local market and to showcase their advanced capabilities and track record in executing large-scale projects with efficiency and high quality. The initiative aligns with Qatar Exports' mission to support the regional and international expansion of Qatari exporters and the private sector through integrated financial and advisory services provided by QDB. These services include the Buyer's Credit Program, detailed market research and opportunity reports, direct meetings and bilateral sessions with partners in priority markets, and training programs designed to equip exporters with the skills needed to grow and compete effectively. Vice President of Enterprise Development at QDB and Executive Director of Qatar Exports Khalid bin Abdulla Al Mana, emphasized the importance of the event, describing it as a critical stepping stone toward hosting more dynamic and interactive engagements in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Al Mana added that the goal of these discussions is to better understand the needs of key developers and enable the Qatari private sector to position itself as a reliable partner capable of delivering high-quality projects in the Kingdom. He affirmed that QDB and Qatar Exports remain fully committed to supporting Qatari exporters across all sectors, providing the necessary tools and services to strengthen their presence in strategic markets, thereby contributing directly to Qatar's broader national economic diversification strategy. MoJ hosts training courses on IP rights protection and combating money laundering
QNA Doha The Legal and Judicial Studies Center at the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) is organising two training courses for several legal professionals from various ministries and government agencies. The courses centre on legal protection of intellectual property (IP) and combating money laundering and terrorism financing in Qatari law. The legal protection of intellectual property course, which began last Sunday and will continue until Thursday, July 10, aims to introduce participants to intellectual property rights and their legal protection under Qatari law and international agreements. It includes two main themes, defined by reference to Law No. 7 of 2002 on the Protection of Copyright and Related Rights, and related laws, agreements, and treaties. The first axis of the two courses addresses the protection of literary and artistic works under Qatari law and international agreements, while the second axis addresses the protection of industrial property under Qatari law and international agreements. The course on combating money laundering and terrorism financing crimes in Qatari law aims to familiarise participants with the general provisions of the law on combating money laundering and terrorism financing and the authorities involved in combating these crimes. It also explains the investigation mechanism and precautionary measures in accordance with the Code of Criminal Procedure, emphasising the role of international cooperation in combating these crimes and outlining the penalties prescribed for them. The course curriculum includes four axes: the first axis includes the general provisions of the law on combating money laundering and terrorism financing; the second axis addresses the investigation mechanism and precautionary measures; the third axis reviews international cooperation and extradition; and the fourth axis tackles the penalties for money laundering and terrorism financing crimes. Commenting on the courses, Director of the Legal and Judicial Studies Center at the Ministry of Justice Dr. Abdullah Hamad Al Khalidi stressed the importance of these specialised training courses in developing the legal skills of legal researchers and specialists in various ministries and government agencies, noting the importance of these training courses in meeting the ministry's needs and aligning with societal demands and technological and scientific advancements. He pointed out that these developments highlight the need to keep pace with methods of protecting intellectual property rights and combating money laundering crimes. Dr. Al Khalidi indicated that the Legal and Judicial Studies Center at the Ministry of Justice, within the framework of the ministry's vision for development and modernization, under the supervision and oversight of Minister of Justice and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs HE Ibrahim bin Ali Al Mohannadi, and the support provided by the minister to the Center to keep pace with the country's comprehensive development process, has developed training programs that keep pace with the progress and modernization witnessed by the country at the level of development programs and plans, particularly in technical fields that serve to develop the country's legal system and advance it to broader horizons. This is in line with the sectoral plans of the Third National Development Strategy and the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030. He explained that the Legal and Judicial Studies Center at the Ministry of Justice aims to meet the country's training needs and strengthen its local partnerships to meet the training needs of various governmental and semi-governmental institutions in the country. It also works to develop the legal profession and raise the efficiency of its practitioners. Work is underway to design and offer quality programmes and courses that take into account practical and applied aspects, focusing on preparing qualified national cadres in various legal specialties and fields, as well as related fields, by enhancing the specialised technical skills and expertise of legal professionals in various government agencies.
