NMC, OCW restore clean, adequate water supply for Dabha residents
Nagpur: After days of distress due to inadequate and contaminated water supply, thousands of households in Nagpur's Dabha area finally received relief. Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) and Orange City Water (OCW) restored both the quantity and quality of water in several affected localities.
Residents of Orange Metro City, Gurudatt Society, Ganesh Nagar, Madavi Layout, New Shanti Nagar, and Shivhare Layout were facing low water pressure and irregular supply, forcing authorities to resort to tanker water. In response, OCW connected these areas to the newly constructed Dabha-2 AMRUT Elevated Service Reservoir (ESR), significantly improving water distribution.
In parallel, complaints of contaminated water near Jagdish Nagar Community Hall, under Dabha-1 AMRUT ESR zone, triggered a detailed inspection.
OCW deployed a RoboCam to investigate the internal condition of pipelines and discovered old and unidentified connections that were likely sources of contamination. The pipelines were flushed and cleaned, but with issues persisting, OCW quickly proposed a Renewal and Replacement (RR) plan.
NMC sanctioned the RR proposal on priority. A new pipeline was laid, and the old one — prone to leaks and unauthorised connections — was decommissioned.
All illegal connections were removed, and clean water supply was restored with proper pressure.
These coordinated efforts by NMC and OCW brought considerable relief to the residents, many of whom expressed serious health concerns. With the new infrastructure now in place, water quality and supply have stabilised, and citizens have expressed satisfaction with the improvement.

NMC & Green Vigil conduct awareness campaigns at Sitabuldi
1 2 Nagpur: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) and Green Vigil Foundation celebrated World Environment Day by conducting public awareness campaigns at World Trade Centre, Sitabuldi and Sitabuldi Market on this year's theme – 'Beat Plastic Pollution'. NMC launches ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0'
Nagpur: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) launched a large-scale tree plantation drive titled 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0' to promote environmental conservation on the occasion of on Thursday. Saplings were also planted at all 10 zone offices, schools, parks, fire stations, urban primary health centres, and other public places. Information, education and communication team of the NMC raised awareness about environmental conservation among drivers at Samvidhan Square using placards. The civic body also took out an awareness rally to pledge commitment to a plastic-free environment. The rally, which commenced in the presence of NMC officials and NGO Green Vigil, received enthusiastic response from citizens. During the rally, eco-friendly cloth bags were distributed amid chanting of slogans urging people to avoid using plastic bags. Later, municipal commissioner Abhijeet Chaudhari unveiled a sculpture 'Earth', highlighting the threat posed by plastic to our planet, near Mahesh Chowk, Traffic Park, through a collaboration between the NMC and a private cable network. Notably, this sculpture is crafted from 'discarded plastic bottles'. The bottle-shaped sculpture serves as a reminder to citizens of the need to be vigilant against the dangers posed by plastic to Earth.

Plantation drive, street play at Maharajbagh Zoo on World Environment Day
1 2 Nagpur: A tree plantation drive and a street play were held at Maharajbagh Zoo to mark World Environment Day on Thursday. The event was jointly organised by the Centre for Sustainable Development NGO and Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC). The street play effectively conveyed messages about waste segregation (wet and dry), limited use of plastic, and measures to prevent air pollution. The play emphasised the strong message: "If we want to save the environment, we must start from our own doorstep." The slogan 'Plant trees, save trees' was instilled in the minds of the audience. The programme was chaired by Dr Abhijit Motghare, veterinary officer, Maharajbagh Zoo, Nagpur, while Dr Bhavna Wankhede, from the Animal Husbandry and Dairy Department, Agricultural College, Nagpur, attended as the chief guest. Other notable attendees included Darwade, curator, Maharajbagh Zoo, Nagpur, and Neha Thakur, head of the Science Department, Kamla Nehru College, Nagpur. The event was anchored by Prajakta Tandale, Education Officer/Biologist, Maharajbagh Zoo, Nagpur, and Mahesh Pandey, Livestock Supervisor, expressed gratitude to all performers and the audience.
