As Anna Wintour steps down from Vogue, this documentary reveals what life was like under her editorship
One of the most recognisable and influential figures in global fashion, Dame Anna Wintour, has announced she's stepping down from her editorship of American Vogue. The 75-year-old is the longest-serving editor at the world's magazine, having been at the helm for 37 years.
Her signature power bob, sharp fringe and black sunglasses have been a staple of the front row for every major fashion show since 1985 when she became the editor of British Vogue.
Hopping across the pond to Conde Nast's US headquarters in 1988, Wintour evolved American Vogue from a niche fashion magazine to a pop culture goliath. In her first year as editor, she put Madonna and Naomi Campbell on the cover, announcing the publication's pivot to celebrity.
One of her biggest accomplishments was turning the once-modest Met Gala into one of the year's biggest celebrity-driven occasions. Known for its provocative themes and high-fashion moments, Wintour has organised and presided over the Met Gala since 1995.
Wintour's legacy is arguably entwined with American Vogue, so it's perhaps no surprise that she isn't entirely taking a backseat. Continuing as Vogue' s global editorial director, as well as chief content officer for Conde Nast, her influence will likely continue.
If you're looking to delve deeper into Wintour's editorship at Vogue and her impact on the cultural landscape, last year's acclaimed documentary In Vogue: The 90s is a must-watch. Here's everything you need to know.
The six-episode series is a who's who of the fashion world. As well as Wintour, the exhaustive list of participants includes Naomi Campbell, Kim Kardashian, Kate Moss, Elizabeth Hurley, Tom Ford and Gwyneth Paltrow.
The documentary explores how American Vogue had little crossover between fashion and pop culture before Wintour's tenure. Taking us behind the scenes of the controversial cover featuring Madonna, it also reveals how American Vogue forecasted the era's supermodel It-girls, with the iconic 1990 cover featuring Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Tatjana Patitz, Christy Turlington and Cindy Crawford.
The series takes us through this transformative decade in fashion. It covers everything from Kate Moss's Calvin Klein era and the hysteria around 'heroin chic' Liz Hurley's safety pin Versace dress at the premiere of Four Weddings and a Funeral, and Gwyneth Paltrow's bubblegum pink dress at the Oscars in 1999.
Just as much about Vogue and the era as it is about Wintour, it's essential viewing for fashion fans and those curious about the former American Vogue 's lasting impact.

New Friday the 13th 'film' announced... and horror fans AREN'T happy about it
The Friday the 13th franchise is getting a new entry, but it's not quite what fans were expecting. Instead of a new full-length film, a short-form vignette is being produced to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the original 1980 movie. Titled Sweet Revenge, the project is being sponsored by Angry Orchard Hard Cider as part of a larger collaboration between the boozy brand and the iconic horror franchise. Sweet Revenge will be directed by Mike P. Nelson, who is also working on a reboot of the holiday horror film Silent Night, Deadly Night. 'I am so grateful that the team at Horror, Inc. saw something in "Sweet Revenge" and wanted it as a part of the Jason Voorhees story,' Nelson said in a statement. 'And to think 30 years ago I was trying to secretly watch these movies on VHS when no one was looking,' he continued. 'To have the opportunity to write and direct one of these stories is surreal – not to mention having an amazing team led by Chad Villella and Brianna Lee Johnson help me bring it to life! 'Not only is the vignette a new take on the beloved IP, it is a comforting, gory hug, reminding us why we fell in love with these movies. Much gruesome fun awaits you!' Production kicked off earlier this month, reports Variety. Fans were furious over news that the vignette won't be a full-length theatrical film. 'What are they doing what is this garbage? No Jason films for almost 20 years and now this,' commented one. 'They'll do anything but put jason back on a feature film. Yikes,' raged another. 'Wow... a short film. We've had a million of those already. What we want is a new film. This universe is a desperate joke,' a third commented. An all-new Jason Voorhees design was recently unveiled by special effects legend Greg Nicotero and will be used in upcoming Friday the 13th projects. While longtime fans will need to wait a lot longer for a new Friday the 13th film, an upcoming prequel series is currently on its way. Titled Crystal Lake, the series is being produced by A24 for the Peacock streaming service. Linda Cardellini will play Jason's mother, Pamela Voorhees. Other cast members include William Catlett, Devin Kessler, and Cameron Scoggins. Showrunner Brad Kane announced that production had officially started on the project last week. Crystal Lake has been described as an 'expanded prequel' to the original film and will most likely dive into the backstory of Jason and Pamela Voorhees.

Sean ‘Diddy' Combs and son Justin accused of rape in new US lawsuit
As closing arguments got under way in the federal sex-trafficking and racketeering conspiracy trial of Sean 'Diddy' Combs this week, the music mogul and his son Justin Combs were hit with a new lawsuit, accusing them of a 'brutal gang-rape' in 2017. In the suit filed in a Los Angeles court on Monday, a woman alleges that Justin Combs used his father's celebrity status to 'lure [the] plaintiff, a young female, from Louisiana to Los Angeles where she was literally held prisoner for a weekend and repeatedly raped' by the pair and two other masked men, according to the complaint. The lawsuit comes amid the final phase of the seven-week trial for Combs, and on the day the mogul's son Christian, who raps as King Combs, released a seven-song album – including one called Diddy Free – on streaming services. The album, Never Stop, credits King Combs, 27, as the lyricist, and Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, as a producer. Prosecutors have accused Sean Combs, the founder of Bad Boy Records, of running a criminal enterprise that engaged in sex trafficking, drug distribution, kidnapping, forced labor, arson and bribery, and coercing women, including his former partner singer Casandra 'Cassie' Ventura, into participating in drug-fueled sex marathons. Combs's legal troubles kicked off in late 2023 when Ventura filed a lawsuit accusing him of rape and severe physical abuse over the course of a decade, and said he used his power and status to keep her trapped in the relationship. The lawsuit was settled the following day for $20m, but Combs soon faced dozens of lawsuits from others accusing him of sexual and physical abuse. This week's lawsuit claims that in 2017 Justin Combs, 31, lured the alleged victim, an 'accomplished, degreed professional', to Los Angeles with the possibility of a job, promising to use his father's connections. She was, the suit alleges, flown to Los Angeles and taken to a high-end Beverly Hills property where she was eventually drugged and repeatedly raped by Justin Combs and his father and two 'unknown, masked' men over the course of a weekend. Justin Combs allegedly held the potential job 'over [the] plaintiff's head' as well as 'risque' photos she had sent him. The suit accuses Sean Combs of a 'pervasive history of sexual assault and violence'. 'The conduct described herein is strikingly similar to how [the] defendant Sean Combs and his entourage conducted themselves for many years, and it appears that Combs's penchant for sexual violence is shared by his son,' the suit states. The woman is seeking compensatory and punitive damages for the assault, which, according to the suit, left her with 'severe emotional distress, emotional anguish, fear, anxiety, humiliation, embarrassment, physical injury, emotional injury and trauma'. In a statement to media, Combs's legal team denied the allegations, stating that 'anyone can file a lawsuit for any reason'. The statement said: 'No matter how many lawsuits are filed it won't change the fact that Mr Combs has never sexually assaulted or sex trafficked anyone – man or woman, adult or minor.'
