Openers power England to commanding position in Manchester ICC World Test Championship

England dominated Day 2 of the fourth Test against India, placing themselves in the driver's seat in Manchester.
After taking the remaining six wickets to bowl India out for 358 in the second session, openers Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley led the charge with a commanding 166-run partnership, reducing the deficit to just 133 runs at stumps.
India started the day at 264/4, with Ravindra Jadeja and Shardul Thakur at the crease. England, eager to inflict early damage, took the new ball and their persistence paid off when Jadeja nicked one off Jofra Archer, with Harry Brook taking a sharp catch in the slips.
Washington Sundar and Thakur then steadied the innings with a well-composed 48-run partnership before the latter was dismissed for a well-made 41. Rishabh Pant showcased immense bravery, coming out to bat despite battling a fractured right foot, and brought up a fighting half-century.
However, India's lower order offered little resistance to Ben Stokes, who ran through the tail with an impressive spell claiming his first five-wicket haul since 2017.
England got off to a blazing start in their innings, with Crawley and Duckett aggressively taking on the Indian bowlers and piling up runs at a rapid pace. The pair remained unbeaten at tea, racing to 77 runs in just 14 overs. India finally broke the partnership when Jadeja induced an edge from Crawley's bat, with KL Rahul taking a clean catch in the slips, sending the opener back for a brisk 84.
Soon after Anshul Kamboj claimed his maiden Test wicket by dismissing Duckett on 94, who fell short of a well-deserved century.
New batter Joe Root, along with Ollie Pope, then negotiated a testing late spell from Jasprit Bumrah to see out the day, with England finishing on 225/2. ICC World Test ChampionshipICC World Test Championship, 2025/27News

Incredible batting effort earns India draw in 4th Test against England

An incredible battling effort earned India a hard-fought draw in the fourth Test against England on Sunday, denying the hosts a series victory in the process. After losing two wickets before they had even scored a run in their second innings, India remained undaunted despite trailing England by 311 runs and they batted for over five sessions for the loss of only two more wickets. They closed the final day on 425-4 to secure a draw at Old Trafford. A courageous hundred from skipper Shubman Gill -- his fourth of the series -- and dogged unbeaten centuries from Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar late on gave the home crowd very little to shout about on a tough day for the hosts. England did everything they could with the bat, posting 669 in their first innings — their fifth highest test total. A disappointing effort with the ball ultimately cost them victory. A tantalising, closely-contested series remains 2-1 to England. The hosts must avoid defeat in the final Test at the Oval in London, starting on Thursday, to seal the series.

Resolute India battle out a draw in Manchester

The Manchester Test between England and India finished in a draw, ensuring that the series remained alive as it goes into the final game at the Oval. Though India had early hiccups on the final day, a brilliant stand of 203 runs between Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar for the fifth wicket saw India through to a draw. Skipper Shubman Gill, Jadeja and Sundar scored hundreds on a good batting day for India. India began the day trailing by 137 runs with eight wickets in hand. KL Rahul and Gill resumed proceedings against England's bowling attack. The duo were determined to see through the first hour. They saw off the initial overs, but Rahul (90) was trapped leg before by a beauty from Ben Stokes in the 71st over. In the 82nd over of the day, Shubman Gill (722) overtook the tally of Yashasvi Jaiswal (712), to make him the India batter with most runs against England in a Test series. He also became the Asian batter with most runs in England in a Test series. In the very next over, Gill brought about his fourth ton of the series. Now Gill stands only behind Rahul Dravid (6) in the list of India batters with most centuries in England. His fourth century helped him equal Rishabh Pant, Sachin Tendulkar, KL Rahul, and Dilip Vengsarkar. He also became only the third India player to have scored four Test hundreds in a series after Sunil Gavaskar (Twice, in 1971 and 1978/79) and Virat Kohli (in 2014/15). Gill's stand in the second innings came to an end when he tried to cut Jofra Archer but ended up nicking the ball to wicketkeeper Jamie Smith soon after. At lunch, India trailed by 88 runs with six wickets in hand. The second session of play saw Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar settle in for a resolute fifth wicket stand, as England bowlers failed to make the most of the new ball in good batting conditions. Jadeja crossed 1000 runs in England during his knock, making him just the third visiting player after Garry Sobers (in England) and Wilfred Rhodes (in Australia) to score a 1000 runs and pick over 30 wickets in a country. The duo managed to overtake England's lead, and India were 11 ahead at Tea. Both batters had crossed their respective fifties. The final session saw more fight from Jadeja and Sundar, with India crossing 350, a feat they had achieved for the seventh time in the series, the most by a team in Men's cricket. The batters picked pace as they closed on their respective hundreds, with Jadeja achieving the landmark in the 141st over, while Sundar got to it in the 143rd over. As India reached 425/4, with less than an hour left, both sides shook hands to call it a draw. India's resilience on the final day was yet another example of the fight shown by the tourists throughout the Test. Ben Stokes was the Player of the Match for his five-wicket haul and a century to go with it. England lead the series 2-1, with one Test to go. The final Test begins at The Oval on 31st July. UAE gears up for action-packed high-octane cricket razzmatazz

India and Pakistan are set to meet in the marquee 2025 Men's Asia Cup group stage clash on Sept.14. In the detailed fixtures announced by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) on Saturday, India will also face UAE and Oman on Sept.10 and 19 respectively. In the tournament happening from Sept.9-28, with Dubai and Abu Dhabi as the likely venues, India, Pakistan, UAE and Oman are placed in Group A, while Group B comprises of Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Hong Kong. After the group stage clash between India and Pakistan on Sept.14, both the teams might take on each other in the Super Fours and potentially the final to be held on Sept.28. It is understood that India will play all its game at the Dubai International Stadium, though the schedule released by ACC doesn't have any mention of it. 'Hosting the ACC Men's T20 Asia Cup 2025 in the UAE allows fans from across Asia to come together in a setting that mirrors our region's incredible diversity. When crowds gather to witness the tournament's unforgettable clashes, it will be a great reminder of cricket's power to build bridges,' said ACC President Mohsin Naqvi said in an official statement. It's also the first time Asia Cup, to be held in the T20I format keeping in mind the preparation for 2026 Men's T20 World Cup, will have eight teams. Top two teams from each group will proceed to the Super Fours stage, with the top two facing each other in the title clash. While India is the designated host of the Asia Cup, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will stage the tournament in the UAE due to the mutual agreement between them and Pakistan to play at neutral venues in 2027 owing to the geopolitical and diplomatic tensions between the two nations. The tournament was in uncertainty due to India-Pakistan cross-border tensions in May, but an ACC meeting in Dhaka on July 24 cleared the decks for the tournament to happen. A recent spat of a brief war between the countries added fuel to the rivalry. The neighbours have not met on either side's soil in a bilateral series since 2012, and only play each other in international tournaments on neutral grounds as part of a compromise deal. But already-frosty relations took a turn for the worse this year when the two nuclear rivals fought an intense four-day conflict, their worst standoff in decades. More than 70 people were killed in missile, drone and artillery fire on both sides. The conflict was triggered by an April 22 attack on civilians in Indian-administered Kashmir that New Delhi accused Pakistan of backing -- a charge Islamabad denies. India are the defending champions of the Asia Cup, having beaten Sri Lanka in the 2023 final held in the 50-over format in Colombo. Sri Lanka had won the Asia Cup in the T20I version after beating Pakistan in the final in 2022. 'The ACC Men's T20 Asia Cup is the marquee event of Asian cricket, and we are proud to present an expanded platform this year. This year marks yet another milestone in ACC's journey and a noteworthy development for cricket in Asia.' 'With the inclusion of additional teams in the tournament, we are witnessing the game's boundaries expand, both geographically and competitively. This will be Asia Cup at its finest,' added Naqvi. Earlier, Naqvi, the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), was appointed as the new President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). Naqvi was elected as the new ACC President in an online meeting and took charge immediately. 'I am deeply honoured to assume the presidency of the Asian Cricket Council. Asia remains the heartbeat of world cricket, and I am committed to working with all member boards to accelerate the game's growth and global influence. 'Together, we will unlock new opportunities, foster greater collaboration, and take Asian cricket to unprecedented heights. I also extend my sincere thanks to the outgoing ACC President for his leadership and contributions to the ACC during his tenure,' said Naqvi in a statement. Naqvi, who has been PCB Chairman since February 2024, will serve as the ACC President for two years and succeeds Shammi Silva, the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) President. 'It has been a privilege to serve as President of the Asian Cricket Council. The steadfast commitment of our member boards working together has been pivotal in elevating ACC's stature across the region. Agencies
