Openers power England to commanding position in Manchester ICC World Test Championship
After taking the remaining six wickets to bowl India out for 358 in the second session, openers Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley led the charge with a commanding 166-run partnership, reducing the deficit to just 133 runs at stumps.
India started the day at 264/4, with Ravindra Jadeja and Shardul Thakur at the crease. England, eager to inflict early damage, took the new ball and their persistence paid off when Jadeja nicked one off Jofra Archer, with Harry Brook taking a sharp catch in the slips.

England got off to a blazing start in their innings, with Crawley and Duckett aggressively taking on the Indian bowlers and piling up runs at a rapid pace. The pair remained unbeaten at tea, racing to 77 runs in just 14 overs. India finally broke the partnership when Jadeja induced an edge from Crawley's bat, with KL Rahul taking a clean catch in the slips, sending the opener back for a brisk 84.
Soon after Anshul Kamboj claimed his maiden Test wicket by dismissing Duckett on 94, who fell short of a well-deserved century.

The Manchester Test between England and India finished in a draw, ensuring that the series remained alive as it goes into the final game at the Oval. Now Gill stands only behind Rahul Dravid (6) in the list of India batters with most centuries in England. His fourth century helped him equal Rishabh Pant, Sachin Tendulkar, KL Rahul, and Dilip Vengsarkar. He also became only the third India player to have scored four Test hundreds in a series after Sunil Gavaskar (Twice, in 1971 and 1978/79) and Virat Kohli (in 2014/15). Gill's stand in the second innings came to an end when he tried to cut Jofra Archer but ended up nicking the ball to wicketkeeper Jamie Smith soon after. At lunch, India trailed by 88 runs with six wickets in hand. The second session of play saw Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar settle in for a resolute fifth wicket stand, as England bowlers failed to make the most of the new ball in good batting conditions. Jadeja crossed 1000 runs in England during his knock, making him just the third visiting player after Garry Sobers (in England) and Wilfred Rhodes (in Australia) to score a 1000 runs and pick over 30 wickets in a country. The duo managed to overtake England's lead, and India were 11 ahead at Tea. Both batters had crossed their respective fifties. The final session saw more fight from Jadeja and Sundar, with India crossing 350, a feat they had achieved for the seventh time in the series, the most by a team in Men's cricket. The batters picked pace as they closed on their respective hundreds, with Jadeja achieving the landmark in the 141st over, while Sundar got to it in the 143rd over. India's resilience on the final day was yet another example of the fight shown by the tourists throughout the Test. India and Pakistan are set to meet in the marquee 2025 Men's Asia Cup group stage clash on Sept.14. In the detailed fixtures announced by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) on Saturday, India will also face UAE and Oman on Sept.10 and 19 respectively. In the tournament happening from Sept.9-28, with Dubai and Abu Dhabi as the likely venues, India, Pakistan, UAE and Oman are placed in Group A, while Group B comprises of Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Hong Kong. The neighbours have not met on either side's soil in a bilateral series since 2012, and only play each other in international tournaments on neutral grounds as part of a compromise deal. But already-frosty relations took a turn for the worse this year when the two nuclear rivals fought an intense four-day conflict, their worst standoff in decades. More than 70 people were killed in missile, drone and artillery fire on both sides. The conflict was triggered by an April 22 attack on civilians in Indian-administered Kashmir that New Delhi accused Pakistan of backing -- a charge Islamabad denies. India are the defending champions of the Asia Cup, having beaten Sri Lanka in the 2023 final held in the 50-over format in Colombo. Sri Lanka had won the Asia Cup in the T20I version after beating Pakistan in the final in 2022.
