A game-changing new 6km green trail in Sydney will connect the south-west to this tranquil bay

Time Out16-05-2025

Want to go from the river to the bay? The GreenWay – a new 6km corridor connecting the Cooks River in Earlwood to the iconic Bay Run at Iron Cove – is near completion. Winding along an old 100-year-old rail line, this 'active corridor' (non-motorised) has been designed for walking, cycling and scooting – with not a car in sight.
Plus, by the time the south-west Metro line opens in 2026, locals will have even more flexible options to get around, with the Dulwich Hill metro station acting as a major hub. The NSW government says these two projects will transform the way Sydneysiders and tourists engage with the Inner West. Suburbs like Dulwich Hill, Summer Hill, Lewisham, Haberfield and Lilyfield are all set to benefit from this verdant corridor.
It all started as a grassroots idea nearly two decades ago, by dedicated community groups and environmental advocates – and it turned into a $60-million project that transforms the old Dulwich Hill Goods Line and Hawthorne Canal.
On completion, the tunnels and underpasses will create an uninterrupted route that will not only provide connectivity, but also culture – think parks and playgrounds, foreshore strolls, sporting facilities, public art, and even local cafés along the route.
Inner West council Mayor, Darcy Byrne, says the GreenWay will transform the way people move in these areas. 'We know that kids will use the GreenWay to get to school, either walking or on their bikes, that families will use it recreationally, and it's also going to be a centre of public art,' he said.
'It will get people out of their cars and onto their scooters and bikes and walking more as well.' We love the sound of that.

In Sydney's Koreatown you can experience the best of K-culture without the journey

With its buzzing nightlife scene, cutting-edge cultural landscape and incredible cuisine, South Korea is quickly becoming a top holiday destination for Sydneysiders looking for an inspiring and delicious escape But if you don't have the dosh to fund plane tickets all the way to Seoul, fear not. In the heart of Sydney's CBD – specifically along the Haymarket stretch of Pitt Street – you'll find Sydney's very own Koreatown: home to a vibrant mix of Korean restaurants, shops and bars serving up Big Seoul Energy in spades. And Squid Game fans, listen up! To celebrate the final season of Netflix's hit series, Netflix will be putting on some very special Squid Game experiences in some of the following Koreatown venues: Sil Bi Jip The good times seriously roll at this lively, affordable Korean street food diner and bar. Our advice? Order a round of Somaek (soju and beer cocktails) and the owner Dennis will make them at your table – splashing Korean beer into soju with lively theatrics. Alongside a strong line-up of tasty street food-style dishes and affordable drinks, you'll find retro games and live music every Saturday from 7pm. Butchers Buffet The name of this beloved Korean BBQ spot tells you all you need to know. Pile your plate up high with unlimited fresh cuts of beef, pork and chicken, then get grilling – all-you-can-eat seatings last for 90 minutes, and you'll fill your belly for less than $50 per person. Hama Film X Kono Karaoke This photobooth and karaoke bar is your one-stop-shop for late-night, Korea-style fun. It's open until 2am Sundays through Thursdays, and until 3am on Fridays and Saturdays, so you can settle in for a good few hours of karaoke and walk away with a head full of memories and a fist full of photos from the fun. A 13-song karaoke session will set you back just $20, so it's a super affordable (and fun) end to your night. Allta Allta is an elevated Korean restaurant that serves delicate, carefully crafted degustation menus in a stunning, marble-trimmed space. The intimate restaurant seats only 12 guests, so you can guarantee you'll get the VIP treatment. Buttered This Korean bakery in Chippendale is best known for its salt bread – the sweet and salty buttery rolls that have gone viral on social media. But there's a lot more on offer at Buttered – come for the salt bread, stay for the light-as-a-feather tissue bread and incredibly Instagrammable waterfall cake. 789 Korean BBQ This popular Korean barbecue joint is by the same team behind 678 Korean BBQ in Haymarket and Eastwood, so you know there are experts on hand firing up the grill. Come to this sprawling Darling Square establishment for delicious caramelised meat and excellent soju. Sáng by Mabasa Found on Fitzroy Street in Surry Hills, away from the main hustle of Koreatown, this small, family-run eatery specialises in modern Korean dishes. The lunch menu is affordable and delicious – with the crisp kimchi pancake, bulgogi and golden fried chicken wings being our picks. At night, there's an ace set menu for $85 per person. Hansang Haymarket This family-run restaurant serves one of Sydney's most beloved beef soups, and so much more. The super extensive menu features all of your Korean faves – from bibimbap and hot pot to a must-order seafood pancake. Arrive hungry. Hana Cosmetics This local-loved cosmetics store in the heart of Haymarket is stocked to the gunnels with Korean beauty products. It's open until 8pm every night, so you can pop in on your way to dinner or karaoke and stock up on K-Beauty essentials. Rococo Seoul Want to dress the part? Rococo Seoul is one of Sydney's very best Korean fashion stores, selling an excellent line in Korean fashion from some of the country's favourite brands. Benidorm's Crissy Rock sets record straight on claim she's 'living like a nomad'

Benidorm star Crissy Rock has set the record straight on reports that she is 'living like a nomad' and couch-surfing with friends. The Liverpudlian, 66, is best known as Janey Yorke from the ITV sitcom, but is now touring the country talking about her transition from acting to stand-up in the show An Evening with Crissy Rock: From Bedlam to Benidorm. Crissy made headlines over the weekend that she is 'living from couch to couch' and that her wardrobe is the boot of her car – which she has told the Metro she said in jest during an interview. Crissy has now clarified that she does have a permanent home in Norfolk, which she shares with her husband Julian Buck, who she married the same year Benidorm ended in 2018. Crissy went on to explain that the nomadic lifestyle she referred to in an interview with The Express was only temporary while she's on tour, driving herself from city to city to perform her one-woman show, which she said is 'part and parcel' of being a jobbing comedian. The performer explained that while at first she found the reaction funny, she then realised that it 'could have an impact on her tour' if people make the wrong assumption about her living situation. 'I did say that my boot of my car is like a wardrobe, because when you're on tour, you have to take suitcases with you. I am like a nomad because I'm on tour. I'm up and down the country, all over the place. 'That's what you do when you're on tour, you live in the suitcase. We don't live in a cardboard box.' She continued: 'You have to go where the work is, so it's not like you just sit there and go, 'Oh, I can't be bothered going there'.' Crissy has her next show on Thursday, in which she talks about her life since Benidorm ended. The sitcom ran for 10 seasons and 74 episodes before its finale in 2018. Benidorm focused on the Solana Resort, following various holidaymakers as they decamped to the Spanish city, and has since found a second life on Netflix. Benidorm boss Derren Litten confirmed earlier this year that he is in talks with ITV over a possible show reboot, which Crissy said would be 'fabulous' if it went ahead. 'That would be wonderful for the people who watch it as well,' she said. 'It'd be wonderful if they asked me to come back into it. Maybe me and Sherrie (Hewson, who played Joyce Temple-Savage on the sitcom) could lock horns and become rival manageresses of different parts of the venue.' More Trending Crissy went on to acknowledge that certain elements of the show would have to change, after it featured outdated stereotypes and crude jokes. 'You couldn't say certain things that they said years ago,' said Crissy. 'I'm not the writer, so I wouldn't know how they would go about it. 'People spoke like that years ago, but you wouldn't do it now.' View More » Benidorm is available to stream on Netflix and ITVX. Got a story?
