Jazz coach says key to Ace Bailey's rookie season is his 'building a routine'
Bailey is going to get plenty of chances with the Jazz this season, the ball will be in his hands. What will be the key to his success and, more importantly, growth as a rookie? Developing a routine, Jazz coach Will Hardy told Andy Larson of the Salt Lake Tribune.
"For Ace, first and foremost, it's going to be about building a routine. The NBA is a lot. The number of appearances is far more than he used to. That's practice, shootaround, games, but it's going to be about sort of him finding his routine, because I think the routine saves you during the season, you don't have to think that much."
This is where having veterans on the roster, such as Georges Niang, Kyle Anderson, and Lauri Markkanen, is beneficial for Bailey — he can see firsthand how experienced players who have stuck and thrived in the league prepare themselves physically and mentally for the grind of the NBA season. Having mentors matters.
My main positive takeaway from Summer League for Bailey was that he showed improvement between his two games, although Hardy noted he saw more things he liked.
"I think Ace showed he was really active in Summer League. He's a good cutter. He can play in off-ball screens. And then defensively, while his body is continuing to get stronger, it's going to be about using his length, because I think that is a real strength of his right now. I think that's how he can survive on the defensive end right now."
Utah has enough talent on the roster to be respectable this season — although every one of those veterans mentioned above is available via trade — but the Jazz are rebuilding and this is a team that is looking for its star to build around. While Jazz fans may be looking ahead to the upcoming draft that player, Bailey will get a chance this season to show he can be that guy.

Slovenia will take on Great Britain. In preparation for the NBA season, Dončić is taking part in the Eurobasket tournament for Slovenia. The tournament is in its exhibition stage now. Slovenia won't play its first official game of the event until Aug. 28, when it opens against Poland. The fact that Dončić is expected to take part in an exhibition game Tuesday is a good indicator he's feeling back to normal following his Saturday's injury. Dončić signed a three-year, $165 million max contract with the Lakers in early August. After joining the team in a shocking trade from the Dallas Mavericks last season, Dončić put up his usual numbers in 28 games in Los Angeles. Dončić, 26, averaged 28.2 points and 8.1 rebounds following the teade. Following the team's early playoff exit, Dončić has committed himself to working even harder this offseason. The star guard reportedly dropped roughly 31 pounds thanks to a new training regime. For all his success in the NBA, Dončić has faced questions about his offseason conditioning throughout his career. If he can put those concerns to bed, it's possible Dončić can unlock an even greater level during the 2025-26 NBA season, a terrifying thought for opposing defenders.

How The Presence Of Michael Porter Jr Will Help Brooklyn's Guards
The Brooklyn Nets took on the contract of Michael Porter Jr this summer, as they relinquished Cam Johnson, but also received 2032 first-round selection for their troubles. While the deal was primarily motivated by financial reasons, Porter Jr should have an immediate impact on the team, in more ways than one. Untapped potential? While he won a championship with the Nuggets in 2023, Porter Jr always played on the shadows of Nikola Jokić and Jamal Murray. As he entered the NBA with Kevin Durant-like comparisons, there's always been, in the NBA sphere, some wonderings about how he'd fare, if he were to be given the keys to the offense. Those keys have now been placed in his hands, at least until they find resolution on the Cam Thomas situation, who will assuredly take up numerous shots this season as well. That said, the idea of a 6'10 wing taking shots off the dribble, and assserting himself offensively, is an intriguing one. Porter Jr can shoot over most players, and his accuracy (career 40.6 3FG%) has probably always flown a bit too under the radar. And Porter Jr will take shots more off his own accord, because why shouldn't he? The biggest obstacle will be to understand where his spots will be, as he hasn't had the freedom, at the NBA level, to identify those spots with the ball in his hands. Will he become a mid-range pull-up shooter? Will he create his own looks from beyond the three-point line? Will he attack the rim more? Loads of questions, which we'll all get an answer to in a few months. Impact on the young guards With the Nets drafting multiple ball-handlers in the draft this year, having Porter Jr as a passing target is not to be underestimated. Porter Jr is a player who historically has been assisted on the vast majority of his shots. 72.9% of his two-pointers were created by others, as were 92.2% of his three-pointers. Those percentages might find themselves lowered given he's no longer playing with Jokić, but that doesn't mean he won't play off the ball anymore. Ben Saraf, Egor Demin, and Nolan Traoré especially will all develop further by having a 6'10 target, who will run the wings, fill the paint, and generally work as a play finisher for them. This should accelerate their process in learning how to read the floor at the NBA level, and how to utilize scoring wings, of which there is no shortage in this league.
