Love Island's Sophie Lee shares her inspiring story after life-changing burn injury

Love Island contestant Sophie Lee has opened up on her burns injury and how she 'basically signed my life over to the NHS' when she became an international case study.
The 29-year-old motivational speaker and author entered the Love Island villa this season but was dumped from the villa when she was left single following a recoupling.
The Manchester native has been a huge advocate for body positivity and burn survivors having been involved in her own fire accident at the age of 22 years old. Speaking on The Six O'Clock Show on Thursday, Sophie revealed that she had been a fire breather and was involved in an accident where the wind from the air con unit blew the fire back into her face.
'It was a freak accident,' she told presenters Katja Mia and Darren Kennedy.
'From that, I developed a keloid tumour and I found out there's no cure in the world for keloid tumours.'
This led to Sophie becoming a case study internationally, with the brunette beauty revealing: 'I basically signed my life over to the NHS with no guarantee of survival or success of this and I had to go through, you know, rounds of chemo and also just so much in terms of being on my plate.
'As you can imagine, dating was not my forefront of needing things, things to do on my to-do list.'
She added that her traumatic experience led her to going into spreading awareness, firstly via social media which branched out into public speaking at schools, colleges, corporate events and medical events. 'That's kind of where I found my lane but I'm still a young girl, you know, I'm just a girl!' she added.
Sophie was dump just 24 hours after entering the Love Island villa with many hitting out that Love Island producers should give islanders more time to prove themselves.
Former Geordie Shore star Holly Hagan took to social media, noting: 'We don't need these exits to early the majority of us want to get to know the people in there. They've probably had their lives on hold preparing for this for months and to get 24 hours and it be basically down to chance is savage.
'Sophie is incredibly inspiring and you could genuinely tell she was there to find someone. We will all still tune in without a shock dumping so early on. The contestants deserve better than that after what I'm sure was a grueling audition process to even get on in the first place!'
Another wrote: 'Wow not even 24 hours is that a new record.'
