As she carried on drinking Juanita, 62, felt 'whoozy' and her vision blurred having been unknowingly spiked by her neighbour Meynard Murambakanda.
When she next opened her eyes, Murambakanda raped her twice after spiking her tea and after the horrific attack, he stole money out of her bank account.
Murambakanda, 34, was sentenced to eight years and now Juanita has waived her right to anonymity to share her story.
Juanita, a retiree who used to work as a barmaid, says: 'When I was invited to Meynard's BBQ I was excited as I didn't usually socialise or leave the house.
'It was a beautiful sunny day with all the neighbours but it turned into the worst day of my life.
'I am now haunted by the memory of accepting that cup of tea, and how stupid I'd been.
'But I now know none of it was my fault. He's a monster who preyed on me.'
In 2020, Juanita, from Manchester, was 58 and living at home alone. She was retired and struggling with type 2 diabetes and a bad back.
Her four children, all in their 30s and 40s, had left the nest years before.
She says: 'Their dad and I divorced in 2003 and I'd been alone for the past 17 years.

'I barely left the house. I only left to get food from the shops.
'Every morning, I had a carer visit to give me my medication and help me with breakfast.
'My life had become very lonely.'
In May that year, she got chatting to one of her neighbours, Murambakanda. They'd seen each-other but had never spoken.
She says: 'I was sprawled out on my deck chair in my front garden when Meynard walked past again.
'This time he stopped and introduced himself. He told me he lived with his mother, around the corner.
'The next day, he came back and chatted again. He seemed very sweet.
'Admittedly, I never thought I'd find love again. But Meynard's attention made me feel good inside. It had been so long.

'The next day he came for a walk down the canal with me, my daughter, her partner and my granddaughter.
'I was glad to have made a new friend.
'But as Meynard was so interested in my life, I wondered if there was more between us.
'It had been years since I'd been with a man, I felt special.'
Later that week, Murambakanda hosted a neighbourhood BBQ in his back-garden. To Juanita's delight, he invited her to join.
She says: 'I was excited as I never left the house. He took me into the back garden and I recognised lots of my neighbours and locals.
'I sat with them and we all had a nice catch up. Whilst Meynard did the BBQ and kept disappearing inside.
I pleaded with him to stop, but he laughed and continue

'Due to my diabetes meds, I hadn't drank alcohol for nine years. So I stuck to water.'
After a few hours, Murambakanda ran out of meat for the BBQ and Juanita kindly offered to walk to Lidl to get more.
Murambakanda insisted on joining her, and as she paid for the extra steaks and sausages, he helped her with her bags.
Juanita says: 'Back at the BBQ, Meynard offered me a cup of tea, my thought was, 'how sweet of him.'
'I thanked him, and he made me a nice brew.'
But just an hour after drinking her tea, Juanita began to feel woozy.
'I told him I felt very tired and my eyes were heavy,' she recalls.
'He told me I should have a lay down, before helping me out of the garden to go inside.
'My vision went very blurry, then everything went black.
'When I next opened my eyes, I was on Meynard's bed. He was on top of me, raping me.
'I pleaded with him to stop, but he laughed and continued. My eyes were still droopy and I drifted off again.
'When I next woke, he flipped me over and raped me from behind. I tried to stop him, but I lost consciousness again.'
Juanita woke up again to Murambakanda holding a wet towel on her head, telling her that she was sweating.
She fell unconscious again, and woke up in a silent house the next morning, realising Murambakanda and the neighbours were gone.
Juanita says: 'I broke down in tears and rang my daughter. I begged her to come pick me up.
'Half an hour later she came with her partner. I was sobbing uncontrollably. I had agonising pain below, my daughter was horrified.'
Back at Juanita's home, her daughter realised that her mum's bank card was missing.
'She went onto my banking app and saw £650 had been withdrawn,' Juanita says.
'I realised Meynard must've seen my pin number when I bought the meats at Lidl. He stole my money.
'I pulled down my top and showed my daughter my bruises. I told her he drugged me with a cup of tea and raped me.
'I was hysterical. I also felt like it was all my fault. I felt stupid.'
Juanita's daughter helped her ring the police and 20 minutes later, two police officers arrived.
Whilst Juanita was taken to the rape clinic to have swabs taken, police couldn't find Murambakanda.
Two weeks later, they tracked him down at his house, and was arrested.
Whenever I thought I could no longer live with such pain, I looked at photos of my grandkids. They kept me alive

Juanita says: 'He denied seeing me that day but police had CCTV footage of us together at the shops, and the bank confirmed he'd withdrawn the money.
'Although Meynard was charged, and remanded, I lived in fear every day after that.
'Every time I looked out my bedroom window, I thought I saw him in the bushes, watching me.
'I couldn't sleep. I ended up moving my bed from the window, and keeping my curtains shut.
'Months later my daughter gave birth to my second grandchild but I was so depressed I didn't meet her.
'Due to my PTSD, I missed the first year of my new granddaughter's life. I shut my family out.
'But, whenever I thought I could no longer live with such pain, I looked at photos of my grandkids. They kept me alive.'
In March 2023, Meynard Murambakanda, now 34, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to two counts of rape against at Manchester Crown Court.
Juanita says: 'I was too terrified to see him again, I stayed away from court.
'But my case officer visited me, to break the news of his eight year sentence. The court also ordered Meynard to be deported back to Africa after his sentence.
'I burst into tears. For such a long time, I lived in fear and shame.
'Meynard knew I was very vulnerable when we met and he targeted me, taking my kindness for weakness.
'Now, I'm trying to make it up to my kids and grandkids for lost time. And I'm getting my strength back, day by day.
'If you have been assaulted, please tell someone. There will be people there to help you. It's never your fault.'

Putin refuses to meet Zelensky to end war as tyrant's forces kill six in fresh blitz on residential area in Ukraine

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) VLADIMIR Putin has again refused to meet with Volodymyr Zelensky as he ordered his troops to unleash another deadly blitz on civilians. At least six Ukrainians were killed in the horror Russian strikes which targeted a high rise building and left a shopping mall up in flames. Ukraine's second city Kharkiv was struck with aerial bombs, drones and missiles in three hours of hell. Kamianske was also invaded by a swarm of 35 drones with the Epicentre shopping centre being impacted and sending civilians fleeing. The terrifying night of strikes came just after Zelensky issued a challenge to Putin urging him to finally discuss a peace deal in person. It would be the first meeting of the pair since Russia's illegal invasion in 2022. US President Donald Trump even told reporters on Friday that the pair would definitely meet soon. He said: "It's going to happen, but it should have happened 3 months ago." But the Kremlin was quick to dismiss both Western leaders as Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov officially said a meeting won't take place unless a peace deal is ready to be finalised. This isn't likely to happen until the end of August at the earliest, he added. Peskov said: 'A summit meeting [involving Putin] can and should put an end to the settlement and formalise the modalities and agreements that are to be worked out in the course of expert work. Why Putin's $1 TRILLION military surge is just 'smoke and mirrors' - and even the tyrant knows it "It is impossible to do the opposite. Is it possible to complete such a complex process in 30 days? Obviously, it is unlikely." Any hopes for a breakthrough continue to appear bleak as warned the enemies remain "diametrically opposed" last week. Zelensky has previously proposed a four-way summit which also involves the US and Turkey. The US has also said an unconditional, 30-day ceasefire could be put in place to help pave the way for a long-standing deal. Moscow has rejected both proposals. Many experts believe that a scheming Putin is holding out as long as he can so his forces can seize more land in Ukraine. Vlad can then go to the negotiating table in a stronger position. Despite his refusal to stop the bloodshed, pressure is still mounting on the tyrant to end the war in Ukraine. President Trump issued a blistering 50-day ultimatum to Russia earlier this month saying he must agree to a ceasefire of face crippling sanctions. He vented his frustration with Putin, declaring he was "disappointed" but "not done" with the Russian tyrant. There are now growing fears that Putin is preparing for an even deadlier chapter in his war. According to German Major General Christian Freuding, Moscow is plotting a mass drone assault involving 2,000 Shahed drones, in a bid to overwhelm Ukraine's already strained air defences. The general warned: 'We have uncovered worrying intelligence… [Russia is] significantly expanding its weapons production capacity.' Chilling footage aired on Russian state TV showed teenagers working in a so-called 'drone death factory,' with Moscow boasting about the 'huge, bright workshops' churning out kamikaze drones by the hundreds. 5 Putin has again refused to meet with Volodymyr Zelensky Credit: AP

Schoolboy, 13, found dead in playground had ‘hoped someone would come looking for him'

SCHOOL TRAGEDY Schoolboy, 13, found dead in playground had 'hoped someone would come looking for him' Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) A SCHOOLBOY was found dead in a school playground after running away from home, an inquest heard. Connor Lee Mark, 13, was discovered in the grounds of Melin Primary School in Mile End Row, South Wales, on January 29. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up The teenager had been confronted about a missing bottle of vodka and an aerosol by his mum and stepdad the night before and he started "kicking off", then stormed out of the house without his shoes. He returned a short while later to collect them before threatening to "jump off a bridge", the inquest heard yesterday. Mum Louise Morgan and stepdad Jason Clark told police Connor had made threats like this before but he usually returned and so they didn't take it seriously. However, nonetheless Jason went out to look for him but after walking around the street eventually returned, assistant coroner Paul Bennett said. During the same evening, Louise and Jason's friends David Morrow and Amy Winslade were visiting their home and were leaving as Louise called the police to report her son missing. Moments later the couple heard Amy shriek "Connor, Connor!" David had seen the teen's body in the playground of the nearby primary school. Former lifeguard Jason attempted to give his stepson mouth to mouth resuscitation in the six minutes before paramedics arrived. However, Connor was declared dead at 3.43am on January 29, DC Danaher told the hearing. Arrests made after protesters hang off Forth Road Bridge to halt gas tanker in major demo

ACTIVISTS NICKED Arrests made after protesters hang off Forth Road Bridge to halt gas tanker in major demo Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) TEN arrests have been made following a Greenpeace demonstration on the Forth Road Bridge. Activists shut down the bridge in South Queensferry, near Edinburgh, yesterday afternoon - hours before Donald Trump touched down in Scotland. Emergency crews raced to the scene after the alarm was raised at around 1.05pm as cops received reports of a protest starting to build. That was after the group suspended themselves from the bridge using ropes, ending up about 25 metres above the water level at high tide. Police have now confirmed that 10 people have been nicked. Five men, aged between 35 and 40, and five women, aged between 25 and 42, were arrested in connection. The bridge is currently still closed. Climate campaigners from Greenpeace confirmed that 10 activists abseiled from the huge 156m bridge to block an INEOS tanker. It spent 10 days travelling across the Atlantic to deliver a cargo of 27,000 cubic meters of fracked American gas to the petrochemical facility in Grangemouth. And it happened the day that President Donald Trump touched down in Scotland for his four-day visit. The US President, 79, arrived aboard Air Force One at around 8.30pm last night. BBC Comedian Susan Riddell Charged After Defence Factory Incident in Edinburgh Greenpeace have said the protest is aimed at INEOS, which is the UK's biggest plastics manufacturer. Protesters unfurled six large red sky banners which read: "Plastics Treaty Now". They were also being supported by a rescue crew on the bridge and a boat team in the river below. This morning, Greenpeace announced it had ended the demonstration, saying they had "achieved what we set out to". The campaign group said its demonstration had prevented the Ineos tanker from delivering the gas for a full 24 hours, saying that the vessel could only travel to Grangemouth during high tides. As a result the specially trained activists began climbing down their ropes early on today. 4 Greenpeace have said the protest is aimed at INEOS, which is the UK's biggest plastics manufacturer Credit: Andrew Barr 4 Protesters unfurled six large red sky banners which read: "Plastics Treaty Now" Credit: © Luca Marino / Greenpeace Greenpeace said all 10 had descended safely and were voluntarily transported to Port Edgar in South Queensferry, where it said they were arrested by officers from Police Scotland on suspicion of culpable and reckless conduct. Amy Cameron, programme director at Greenpeace UK said: "We've achieved what we set out to. "By blocking Ineos, we've drawn global attention to the company's bottomless appetite for plastic production, false solutions and profit for its billionaire boss Jim Ratcliffe." In response yesterday, a statement from INEOS said: "Today's Greenpeace stunt is dangerous, disruptive, and entirely counterproductive. "It may grab headlines, but it does absolutely nothing to reduce plastic pollution or deliver real-world solutions." A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Ten people have been arrested following a protest on the Forth Road Bridge on Friday, 25 July, 2025. "The protest was reported to police around 1.05pm. "Five men, aged between 35 and 40, and five women, aged between 25 and 42, were arrested in connection and further enquiries are ongoing. "The bridge remains closed at this time."
