Cubs' Kyle Tucker Day-to-Day After Negative X-Ray
Cubs' Kyle Tucker Day-to-Day After Negative X-Ray originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
During the Chicago Cubs and Cincinnati Reds game, where the Cubs won 7 to 3, superstar offseason acquisition Kyle Tucker suffered a jammed right ring finger. He missed the final five innings of the contest, and there was significant concern over his health going forward.

According to a post on Twitter/X from Bruce Levine of 670 The Score, Tucker had X-rays done on his finger, and they came back negative. Levine reports that Tucker will be day-to-day following the major injury update.
While a scary injury, the negative x-ray results are a positive sign. Not seeing anything broken or other noteworthy damage is a positive sign that Tucker will be back before long. Even though Tucker may miss time, he might not land on the injured list if the damage and pain aren't too bad.
If Tucker did get placed on the injured list, the Cubs would've lost one of their best players for an extended period of time.

Before his injury, and during the four innings Tucker played against the Reds, he went 1 for 2 with a double and a run scored.

So far through the first 59 games of the Cubs' season, Tucker is off to an incredible start. He has 63 hits, 43 runs, 9 doubles, 4 triples, 12 home runs, and 39 RBI through 266 plate appearances. Tucker also has 16 stolen bases, 40 walks, and 32 strikeouts.
Tucker has a .283 batting average and a .911 OPS, to go with a very solid defensive profile with just one error on 112 chances. Overall, Tucker has not only been one of the best Cubs but one of the best players in baseball in 2025.

This bit of good news from Levine is a near disaster avoided. If Tucker broke part of his hand, he'd miss extensive time. While Tucker is still likely to miss some time, the difference is stark if the X-ray comes back positive.

Dodgers Announce Mookie Betts Out of Lineup Ahead of Yankees Game
Dodgers Announce Mookie Betts Out of Lineup Ahead of Yankees Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees square off for a three-game series at Chavez Ravine beginning Friday, in what promises to be one of the most talent-loaded in-season matchups of the year. Advertisement The Yankees, who were embarrassed by the Dodgers in five games in the Fall Classic last year, clearly have had this series marked on their calendar as their first opportunity to exact revenge on their new rivals. With the Yankees' acquisitions of Cody Bellinger and Paul Goldschmidt, this series promised the first ever game in MLB history with both teams having three former MVPs. Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Teoscar Hernandez (37), shortstop Mookie Betts (50) and first baseman Freddie Freeman (5). Jayne Kamin-Oncea-Imagn Images However, ahead of the Dodgers' long awaited Friday against the Yankees, they announced a surprising omission from their lineup. Infielder and 2018 MVP Mookie Betts was absent from the Dodgers' starting lineup, per Sonja Chen. Advertisement The rest of the lineup rounded out as expected, with Shohei Ohtani leading it off, and Teoscar Hernandez, Will Smith and Freddie Freeman representing the bulk of the order. Friday's game would be just the second game out of 55 games this season that Betts would miss. Betts has appeared in every game since March 29, when he was sidelined by a stomach virus that caused him to lose 20 pounds. The reason for Betts' absence remains unknown, but it could simply be gamesmanship on the part of Dave Roberts, as Betts has hit to a .641 OPS and .204 average against lefties. Potential Cy Young candidate lefty Max Fried takes the mound for the Yankees in Hollywood tonight. Yankees' Aaron Boone Sends Jasson Dominguez Update After Luke Weaver Injury
Yankees' Aaron Boone Sends Jasson Dominguez Update After Luke Weaver Injury originally appeared on Athlon Sports. After losing two out of three to the Los Angeles Dodgers over the weekend in what will be their only World Series rematch this season, the New York Yankees now turn to their series against the Cleveland Guardians. Advertisement Injuries have been piling up this season, with Jazz Chisholm Jr and Fernando Cruz returning from weeks-long stints on the injured list, but closer Luke Weaver replacing them after straining his hamstring during warm-ups. One concerning story that fans were monitoring over the weekend was former top prospect Jasson Dominguez, who was nursing a thumb contusion over the weekend. The report prior to Tuesday was that Dominguez would be evaluated in New York, which was ample cause for concern in the organization. Advertisement However, manager Aaron Boone on Tuesday sent a very positive update on the young outfielder. The injury could be a "couple days thing," according to the skipper, with Boone saying Dominguez has seemingly "gotten better every day." Dominguez, in his first full season in New York, is starting to show flashes of the kind of hype he got throughout the minor leagues, with a .247 batting average and .766 OPS. Dominguez turned in a tremendous performance May 9 against the Athletics, hitting three home runs and driving in seven runs which singlehandedly boosted his slugging percentage from .365 to .463. Dominguez added to his hot month with his first career walk-off home run against the Texas Rangers on May 21 to clinch a series win. Advertisement The news that Dominguez will likely return in no time is welcome for a team that has already lost Gerrit Cole for the season and remains without Luis Gil, Jake Cousins, Marcus Stroman and JT Brubaker. Angels Announce Injury News After Outfielder Leaves Red Sox Game
Angels Announce Injury News After Outfielder Leaves Red Sox Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Los Angeles Angels beat the Boston Red Sox on Monday and Tuesday, but it was no thanks to right fielder Jorge Soler. The 33-year-old was hitless in his last four games before Wednesday afternoon's matchup with Boston, when he hit an infield single to shortstop. Advertisement Soler came into Wednesday slashing just .213/.286/.377, but ranked sixth on the team with eight homers and fourth with 24 RBI. The 6-foot-4-inch, 235-pounder also ranked fourth with 78 total bases, second with 19 walks, and third with 65 strikeouts. Soler got subbed out for fellow outfielder Matthew Lugo in the bottom of the third inning on Wednesday. "Jorge Soler was removed from today's game with groin tightness," the team wrote on X. Soler played for the Cuban national baseball team in the 2010 World Junior Baseball Championship before signing a nine-year, $30 million deal with the Chicago Cubs in June 2012. The club called him up in August 2014 and he was a part of its 2016 championship team. Advertisement The Cubs then traded Soler to the Kansas City Royals in December 2016, and he led the AL with 48 homers in 2019. The latter team then dealt the journeyman to the Atlanta Braves at the 2021 trade deadline, and he won the World Series MVP award that postseason. The Braves beat the Houston Astros in six games. Atlanta then traded Soler to the San Francisco Giants in February 2024, who then sent him back to Atlanta that July. The Braves shipped him out to the Angels this past October.
