Rupali Ganguly Marks I-Day With A Special Note: 'Let's Celebrate Freedom With Kindness'

This comes days after Rupali also criticised SC's decision and mentioned that by shifting dogs to shelter homes, we aren't showing any kindness but are only putting them in exile.
India is celebrating its 79th Independence Day. On this special day, several film and television celebrities took to their respective social media handles to extend wishes to their fellow countrymen. Among others, Rupali Ganguly, popularly known as Anupama, also took to her X handle and penned down a heartwarming note.
Rupali shared a picture of India's national flag and seemingly hinted at the Supreme Court's recent order regarding the stray dogs in Delhi. 'Proud to be born in a land of courage, culture & countless dreams. Let's celebrate freedom with kindness, to every human & every living being. Happy Independence Day! #indipendenceday2025," she wrote. Check it out here:

This comes days after Rupali also took to her X handle and penned down a long note, criticising SC's decision. She mentioned that by shifting dogs to shelter homes, we aren't showing any kindness but are only putting them in exile.
'In our traditions, dogs guard Bhairav Baba's temple and are fed on Amavasya for blessings. They've grown up on our streets, guarding shops, waiting outside our doors, barking away thieves," she wrote.
'If we remove them now, we risk losing our protectors before the real dangers arrive, like silencing an alarm before a fire. Sending them to far-off shelters isn't kindness, it's exile. Stray dogs aren't outsiders; they're part of our faith, our culture, our safety. Care for them, vaccinate them, feed them and let them live where they belong. #straydogs," the actress added.
What Was The Supreme Court Order About Stray Dogs In Delhi?
Earlier this week, the Supreme Court ordered that all stray dogs in Delhi and the NCR must be caught within eight weeks and kept in special shelters that civic authorities will set up. The court made it clear that once a dog is caught, it will not be released back onto the streets.
A bench of Justices JB Pardiwala and R Mahadevan gave these directions while hearing a case taken up on its own about the rising number of stray dog attacks. The judges also said that anyone who tries to stop the authorities from carrying out the capture will face contempt of court action.
The court further ordered that a helpline must be started in Delhi-NCR to report dog bite cases. If a complaint is made, the dog involved must be caught within four hours.
However, after the backlash, a three-judge Bench of the Supreme Court comprising Justices Vikram Nath, Sandeep Mehta and NV Anjaria, on Thursday, reserved its order on an interim plea requesting a stay on the suo motu directive concerning the removal of stray dogs in Delhi-NCR.

Saath Nibhana Saathiya actress Mazel Vyas reacts to Supreme Court's ruling on stray dogs; says 'Most shelters are already overcrowded and underfunded'

Mazel Vyas , currently seen in the gripping action series Hunter 2 alongside Suniel Shetty who was also seen in Saath Nibhana Saathiya as Meera Modi and became famous has stepped into the spotlight for a cause close to her heart — the welfare of stray dogs. In light of the recent Supreme Court decision mandating the relocation of all stray dogs in Delhi to shelters, Mazel has expressed her concern over what she calls a 'deeply complex and emotional issue.' The ruling, which has sparked widespread debate, aims to address the growing number of incidents involving aggressive strays — some tragically resulting in harm to children. While the intention behind the move may be rooted in public safety, many animal lovers, activists, and citizens argue that the lack of infrastructure makes this decision unviable and potentially harmful. 'I understand the fear and anger when innocent lives are lost or harmed,' Mazel shares. 'But simply shifting all stray dogs to shelters without a long-term plan or basic facilities is not the answer. Most shelters are already overcrowded and underfunded. This could lead to even more suffering.' Mazel advocates for a more balanced and humane solution. 'Mass sterilization and vaccination drives should be the priority,' she says. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Local Summer Sale: 75% Off Installation in Tracy LeafFilter Gutter Protection Learn More Undo 'We also need to differentiate between aggressive dogs and those that coexist peacefully in neighborhoods. The truly aggressive ones can be rehabilitated or moved to secure environments, but not all strays deserve to be locked away.' She also emphasizes the role of communities in caring for street dogs. 'Many strays are fed and looked after by locals. Forcing them into shelters where conditions are often poor is unfair — both to the animals and the people who care for them.' The issue has indeed divided public opinion. While safety remains paramount, voices like Mazel's urge the government and courts to look beyond a blanket solution. A more compassionate, well-planned approach could protect both people and animals — without sacrificing one for the other. Box Office: Coolie and War 2 ensure a bumper opening weekend in India; Rajinikanth, Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR contribute Rs 430 crore in 4 days

Coolie and War 2 are the two latest releases of Indian cinema. While the Rajinikanth starrer is performing well, the latter is struggling to gain the much-needed traction. Since both movies were released on Thursday, they enjoyed a 4-day extended opening weekend. However, exhibitors are happy as both Independence Day releases have brought audiences back to the cinemas. Coolie and War 2 collectively rakes in Rs 430 crore during the Independence Day weekend Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Coolie opened with Rs 75.50 crore. It further raked in Rs 63.50 crore on Day 2 and Rs 47.50 crore on Day 3. As per estimates, the movie stormed over Rs 44 crore on its Day 4, bringing the opening weekend cume to Rs 230 crore gross at the Indian box office. While on the other hand, War 2 kickstarted its box office run with Rs 59 crore on its opening day. It further collected Rs 67 crore on the Independence Day followed by Rs 38 crore on the third day. Estimates suggest the movie added another Rs 35 crore to the tally on its fourth day, bringing the opening weekend total to Rs 200 crore gross in India. Collectively, both Coolie and War 2 sums up Rs 430 crore gross at the domestic box office. Had both movies performed to their full potential, the combined figure would have easily surpassed the Rs 500 crore mark in the first weekend alone. Globally, both movies have clocked over the Rs 600 crore mark in the first four days of their theatrical runs. Coolie performs best down South, War 2 dominates the Northern belt Coolie fared best in its home turf along with Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. In contrast, War 2 dominated the North India belt with a solid margin. Both Independence Day releases are expected to end their theatrical run on a similar figure in India, with Coolie leading the clash. However, the Lokesh Kanagaraj movie will maintain a big margin in the international markets. It will be interesting to see whether both of them collectively can reach the Rs 1000 crore mark globally, as none of them now can achieve the four-digit magical figure alone.
