JJ Spaun's 'awkward' moment with wife after US Open win as fans say same thing
JJ Spaun won the U.S. Open at Oakmont on Sunday to capture his first career major, but eagle-eyed fans noticed an 'awkward' moment between the golfer and his wife
Eagle-eyed fans spotted an "awkward" moment between JJ Spaun and his wife, Melody, just after the American golfer clinched the US Open title. On Sunday, Spaun triumphed over torrential rain and tough conditions at Oakmont to win his first major championship.
Only three months earlier, he had faced a heartbreaking defeat to Rory McIlory at The Players' Championship, which he used as fuel for his US Open success.
After his exhilarating win, Spaun was quick to celebrate with his two daughters and wife. However, several golf enthusiasts noticed that the 34-year-old seemed to snub his spouse during the initial celebrations.
"Search 'JJ Spaun wife.' Glad it's not just our living room who all think he and his wife must not be getting along. Man that was awkward," one social media user commented, while another observed: "Oh there's some drama between Spaun and his wife. They didn't even acknowledge each other," reports the Mirror US.
Another wrote: "JJ Spaun at no point even acknowledged his wife after winning." Despite this, Spaun did share a kiss with his wife following his victory, but viewers picked up on the apparent coolness between them.
Spaun's victory was particularly remarkable given that he bogeyed five of the first six holes in the final round. The Los Angeles-born golfer then rallied, sinking birdies on four of the last nine holes, including an astonishing 64-foot birdie putt on the 18th to clinch the win at 1-under.
"I never thought I would be here holding this trophy," Spaun expressed afterwards, overwhelmed with emotion. "I mean, I've always had aspirations and dreams.
"But a few months ago, I never knew what my ceiling was. I never knew how good I could be, but I'm just proud that I've been resilient in my career and pushed through a lot of things and just trying to be the best golfer I can be. And, you know, I'm happy to display that today at Oakmont.
"I don't think I did keep my composure, honestly, with all the breaks I was getting," he confessed. I was trying to just dig deep, hit some good shots coming in. But honestly, the weather delay we had kind of just changed the whole vibe for the day. [A] similar thing happened to me at The Players.
"So this time I kind of leaned on that whole experience where I came back after the delay at The Players and I just kept pushing.
"I'm super fortunate to just have a good support system around me and encourage me and support me in ways that a lot of people don't notice," he gratefully added. "So I'm just proud of how I battled, and I'm super proud to be the U.S. Open champion."

'Disrespectful' couple faces furious backlash after getting engaged during brutal 'No Kings' protest
A couple is facing major backlash after a video surfaced of their engagement - which took place in the middle of a brutal 'No Kings' protest. The viral clip shows the pair embracing in the middle of a street in Los Angeles, just a few steps away from a line of police officers in full riot gear and mounted on horseback. As chaos unfolds in the background, the couple shares a kiss and poses for photos, seemingly oblivious to the tense political moment surrounding them. The engagement happened on Sunday during a 'No Kings' protest as millions rallied against what they described as President Donald Trump 's authoritarian tendencies. Protesters had gathered to speak out against ICE, immigration policies, and what they viewed as authoritarian displays of power. But instead of blending into the crowd, the couple's very public (and very poorly timed) engagement quickly became the main event - at least online. Footage of the moment, which has since been shared across platforms like X (formerly Twitter), TikTok, and Instagram, left viewers shocked, confused, and frankly, furious. It didn't take long for the internet to do what it does best: react. Many users expressed that doing something like proposing in front of a line of police officers was making light of the important issues that were being protested in the first place. 'Proposals and quirky signs and cosplaying… can we actually be serious about this s**t for once,' one X user said. 'Families being ripped apart and they're focused on getting a viral moment during a protest,' another user shared. Some users pointed out that this felt like an attention-grabbing situation, taking away from the reason why people were protesting. 'Making mass deportation and the ripping of families apart about you is WILD I don't know about y'all,' another user added. But no matter what criticism anyone had, it all had the same general gist: it was the wrong time and place for the engagement. Some even pointed out that it was this same attitude that brought upon the reason for protesting in the first place. 'If I were to say a lot of you "protestors" are solely going to these protests as a way to flaunt on social media and be performative about your activism and probably didn't even vote in the election thus the reason we are in this mess then what?' one user shared. Critics said that the moment was taking attention away from the purpose of the protest The viral proposal came amid an entire weekend of 'No Kings' protests across the country, including one in Salt Lake City that turned deadly. Arthur Folasa Ah Loo, 39, was shot and killed while attending the protest as a bystander. Police say the gunfire came from a member of a volunteer 'peacekeeping' team who was trying to stop a man, Arturo Gamboa, from advancing into the crowd with an AR-15-style rifle. One of the shots meant for Gamboa struck Ah Loo instead. Gamboa, who survived, was arrested and charged with murder for his role in creating what police described as a 'grave risk of death.' The shooting has cast a dark shadow over the protests, leaving many outraged at the performative behavior of some attendees - including the couple's viral engagement.

John Obi Mikel 'frustrated' by Chelsea star lined up for summer transfer
Chelsea kick-started their Club World Cup campaign with a 2-0 win over Los Angeles FC but John Obi Mikel was nevertheless 'frustrated' by one member of Enzo Maresca's squad. Pedro Neto scored a superb goal to give the Premier League giants a first-half lead over MLS side Los Angeles. Enzo Fernandez put the game to bed with Chelsea's second on 81 minutes courtesy of an assist from summer signing Liam Delap, who impressed on his debut following a £30m move from Ipswich Town. The match was played at 3pm local time in a half-empty Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. FIFA announced the official attendance at 22,137 – the stadium, the home of the Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta United FC – holds 71,000. Chelsea's victory puts them in a strong position to progress from Group D as they look to reach the knockout stages and challenge for the Club World Cup title. Maresca's side face Brazilian giants Flamengo and Tunisian champions ES Tunis in their remaining group games. It was a professional if not spectacular display from Chelsea, especially considering Bayern Munich and PSG's respective 10-0 and 4-0 wins on Sunday. Ex-Chelsea midfielder Mikel was on punditry duty for DAZN and even singled out one player who 'frustrated' him. 'We need more from Madueke,' the two-time Premier League winner said. 'I've been frustrated with him in the first half. 'He's had a lot of the ball but hasn't gone past his man, his final ball was not perfect either. 'He needs to clean that up in his game, if he does that he can be a fantastic player. He gets the ball and doesn't go past his man or create enough for the team. More Trending 'I need to see him do more.' Madueke started against Los Angeles FC but was subbed off just after the hour mark and replaced by Tyrique George. Chelsea are believed to be open to offers for Madueke, who has blown hot and cold at Stamford Bridge since his £30m move from PSV in 2023.
