Met Police appeal after ‘priceless' 280-year-old violin stolen from pub
The Metropolitan Police are appealing for information after a £150,000 violin was stolen from a pub in Islington.
The instrument, which belongs to a member of the London Philharmonic Orchestra, is believed to have been taken from The Marquess Tavern on Canonbury Street on February 18.
The 30-year-old victim reported the theft to the Metropolitan Police that evening, police said
Pc Michael Collins, from the Met's local policing team in Camden, said officers were releasing CCTV in an attempt to try and identify the suspect.
'We've been working hard to try and locate the suspect and are releasing this CCTV in an effort to help identify them as soon as possible.
'The victim, who is a member of London's Philharmonia Orchestra, has told us the piece is worth more than £150,000 and was made in Florence in 1740.

He added: 'It is incredibly precious, and for the victim, it's priceless.'

Woman dies and nine others injured in M4 car crash
A woman in her 40s has died and nine other people have been injured after two cars crashed on the M4 motorway. A seven-seater Toyota Corolla and a Volkswagen Tiguan collided between junctions 16 and 17 on the motorway at around 11.30pm on Sunday, while there were reports that a third vehicle may have been involved, Wiltshire Police said. Violin worth £150,000 stolen from London pub
A violin worth more than £150,000 was stolen from a London pub - with police appealing for help to find the 285-year-old instrument. The violin belongs to a member of the London Philharmonia Orchestra who was in The Marquess Tavern in Islington on 18 February when it was taken. ‘Cinderella' phone snatcher caught by DNA left on lost shoe
A hapless phone snatcher caught by DNA on his lost shoe has admitted theft. Spencer Duarte, 28, of Saffron Walden, was tackled off his e-bike by members of the public after he stole a phone from a victim's hand in Ludgate Hill in the City of London at midday on August 7 last year. His trainer came off in the ensuing struggle and he was captured on CCTV wearing one shoe after he managed to get away. Police sent the shoe for DNA analysis and found his profile on the national database. He was spotted and arrested by Metropolitan Police officers on September 9. Duarte appeared at Inner London Crown on Monday where he admitted one count of theft. He will be sentenced on September 12. Physical forensics manager Andrew Walker, of the City of London Police, said: 'We were able to get sufficient levels of DNA from the shoe to obtain a single, major profile that was suitable for searching against the national DNA database. 'This search generated a 'hit' to a male whose profile had previously been uploaded. 'The slipper fitted our Cinderella and we were able to bring him before the courts.'
