Sam Rockwell tried to induce 'nervous breakdown' for scenes in 'Galaxy Quest': 'People were like, what are you doing?'
When Sam Rockwell gets a role, he's all in, dancing or whatever needs to be done.
But when asked about the "most ridiculous role" he's ever committed to, there's a clear winner: Guy Fleegman, whom he played in Galaxy Quest, the 1999 movie about the cast of a former sci-fi TV series having to assume their roles in real life in order to save the universe.
"Well, I think Galaxy Quest comes to mind, as far as taking it very seriously," Rockwell said of the sci-fi parody on Thursday's episode of Hot Ones. "I was walking around, [having] a lot of coffee, getting really hyped up and trying to have a nervous breakdown on camera, so that people would laugh at it, which is totally ridiculous. People were like, 'What are you doing, man? It's a comedy.' But, you know, you have to really break down or it's not funny."
He pointed to Gene Wilder's performance as Leo Bloom in Mel Brooks' iconic 1967 movie The Producers as proof.
Wilder, who died in 2016, is "a perfect example of that," Rockwell said. "He has a real anxiety attack, and it's hilarious."
Wilder was nominated for an Oscar in the category of Best Supporting Actor for his work in the iconic film, although it's unclear how much of it was acting and how much was at least inspired by real life. The veteran of movies such as Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory and Young Frankenstein told Time in 1970 that he'd always had "a reservoir of hysteria," although he'd grown out of it.
As for Rockwell, he's previously described his transformation for the spoof that he costarred in with Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, and the late Alan Rickman in a similar way.
"You have to play that for real!" he told HuffPost in July 2013. "I'm really crying in the spaceship when I'm freaking out."He also said then that he'd done "full emotional preparation."
"I had had four cups of coffee, and I was doing it as if it was a drama for me," Rockwell explained. "Knowing that the outcome is going to be a funny outcome, that people will be laughing at my tragedy. I was pacing, and I think Bill Paxton did the same thing in Aliens — knowing he's the funny guy, but he's got to be freaked out. He has to be legitimately scared — and that's what makes it funny. That's what great farce is: raising the stakes."

I love you so much Big Dog and I will miss you forever." Nick is the daughter of the "Hulkster" and his ex-wife Linda, who they also shared a daughter, Brooke, with. Hulk and Linda Hogan filed for divorce in 2007. Before the divorce, the family was featured on the hit VH1 reality show, "Hogan Knows Best," which aired from 2005-07. Tana Lee, the wife of Nick Hogan, also posted a tribute to her father-in-law following his death. It showed them together on her wedding day in January, among other Instagram Stories on her page to honor him. Tributes to Hogan have poured in from all over, as former wrestling colleagues, celebrities, family, friends, and many more remembered the bigger-than-life personality that shined inside and out of the ring. "WWE is saddened to learn WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan has passed away," the company wrote on Thursday, confirming news of his death. "One of pop culture's most recognizable figures, Hogan helped WWE achieve global recognition in the 1980s. "WWE extends its condolences to Hogan's family, friends, and fans." Hogan was set to join former pro wrestling executive Eric Bischoff in a new venture called Real American Freestyle. It was a fresh attempt at putting freestyle wrestling on the map. Hogan also dipped his toe into the political waters. He stumped for President Donald Trump at the Republican National Convention and at a Madison Square Garden rally last year. "We lost our Commissioner. We lost a friend. And the sport of wrestling lost one of its greatest champions, not just in the ring, but in spirit," Real American Freestyle (RAF) CEO and co-founder Chad Bronstein said in a statement. "Hulk Hogan believed wrestling was more than just entertainment. He saw it as a brotherhood, a proving ground and a platform for greatness. That's what Real American Freestyle was built to be, a new stage for the toughest, most passionate athletes on Earth. And Hulk was at the center of it. 'Daily Show' co-creator sounds off on cancellation of Colbert's show, accuses CBS of being 'afraid'
Lizz Winstead, the co-creator of "The Daily Show", sounded off during an MSNBC interview about the cancellation of late-night host Stephen Colbert's show, accusing CBS of being afraid. "To just drop the franchise itself, right, its not like Stephen Colbert, its a double, its a twofer, right? And that says to me, you're afraid, because we've watched, with 'The Daily Show,' with John Oliver, we've watched how people who do not have a dog in the fight, and what I mean by that is people who call BS no matter who the powerful person is, on their hypocrisy or screwing up. And that's what Stephen has done brilliantly, Jon [Stewart] has done brilliantly, John Oliver has done brilliantly," Winstead said. Winstead wrote a piece for Rolling Stone on Friday about the cancellation of Colbert and said she didn't believe CBS' explanation for canceling the show. CBS announced that Colbert's show would be canceled at the end of its broadcast season and said it was a "purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night." "So when the truthtellers are the comics and those comics are actually resonating with the people that Donald Trump has not been able to reach, then he's got to go plan b and plan b is, 'oh, look at me, I have a merger I need, look at me. I can ask for what I want, and I can silence those voices because my, lardo-thin skin cannot take the ridicule,' that most people can who are grown adults running a nation," she continued. Liberals have overwhelmingly argued that Colbert's show was canceled for political reasons. Days before the cancellation, Colbert slammed Paramount's recent settlement with President Donald Trump over his lawsuit against "60 Minutes" as a "big fat bribe" ahead of a pending merger between Paramount and Skydance Media. Winstead argued Colbert, along with other comedians, was an authentic voice on late-night television. "When you are authentic, people gravitate to you, and there is nothing and no one more authentic than Stephen, John. You look at these passionate pleas that they give nightly, and you're like, that is real. And the fire is what makes people come back. And if you lack the fire, man, do you hate it. And if that fire is directed at you, you have no other choice, because you're small, to want to squelch it and put it out," Winstead continued. Winstead wrote in Rolling Stone that she didn't believe CBS' financial excuse and suggested networks didn't want progressive voices. "This is why Colbert's cancellation hits different. Not just because he's one of the greats, but because his ousting is a warning shot. It tells comedians — even the white, male, successful ones — that there's a line. And if you cross it, they'll find an excuse to take you out," Winstead, who identified herself in the commentary essay as a loud and proud, pro-abortion progressive, wrote. "Underneath those thinly veiled excuses is fear. Fear of the power comedians have. Fear that people might actually listen while they are laughing," she continued.

Combine them and you get 'downright' which does mean 'completely and utterly' but also, the first word goes DOWN and the other goes RIGHT and I find that sort of thing clever if a bit trickier to solve. Indeed, I didn't get there until the end, having made my way (rather slowly, I should add) through the rest of this Mini. I found it a lot more challenging than yesterday's. I got DAS right off the bat, but then struggled with the other Across words. AMOUR and SINAI got me back on track, and then TONG and SUCH were simple enough.
