8 must-have plants to brighten up your garden
Nick Hamilton owner of Barnsdale Gardens has shared his favourite plants and flowers you should consider adding to your garden, borders and pots.
Tricyrtis
A spectacular plant that gives a real exotic feel to any garden with its orchid-like, spotted flowers giving the impression that this plant should be tender but it is 'as tough as old boots!'.
Penstemon
I love this plants genus of because most will flower all summer and autumn. They'll grow in sun or semi-shade in a well drained soil and produce a non-stop display of tubular flowers in an array of colours and colour combination to suit all tastes.
Luzula sylvatica 'Marginata'
With the evergreen leaves edged with yellow it's great asset is that it
will grow in sun or shade in any type of soil and is great as groundcover in the hardest spot to fill - dry shade.
Eryngium x zabelii 'Big Blue'
A stunning, nectar-rich plant that will feed the beneficial insects in your
garden. Leave the flowerheads once they have turned brown because they look stunning with winter frost and snow, extending the plant's interest period.
Sarcococca hookeriana 'Winter Gem'
If you need winter scent then look no further than this compact, evergreen shrub. The scent is stunning and the evergreen leaves create an excellent backdrop for the summer flowers.
Cornus sanguinea 'Anny's Winter Orange'
A dwarf version of 'Midwinter Fire' the very colourful stems create a stunning winter display, particularly on sunny days.
Rosa 'Noisette Carnee'
A very well-behaved climbing rose that is perfect for training over an arch, pergola or gazebo. The small, 'noisette' flowers are blush-pink and produce the most amazing clove scent constantly from June to November.
Sanguisorba hakusanensis 'Lilac Squirrel'
I've never seen a squirrel with a drooping, shaggy lilac tail, but this variety will give your garden an unusual and different look throughout summer. It does need a moisture retentive soil but will grow in sun or semi-shade.

Exosomes Exosomes are the buzzword for 2025, taking advanced skin regeneration to new heights. These micro-messengers signal skin cells to repair damage, boost collagen, and accelerate recovery, and they're a gamechanger for targeting ageing. 2. Streamlined Skincare The age of 12-step routines is fading as consumers shift to more intentional, multi-functional products. Streamlining skincare not only saves time but also reduces the risk of overloading your skin. In 2025, we'll see a rise in hybrid products that combine active ingredients for simplified, effective results. 3. Expect vegan collagen in everything from moisturisers to serums. 4. In 2025, we predict a dramatic shift towards AI-powered tools that help people understand their skin on a deeper level. 5. Hair Loss Solutions - Hair loss is an issue that affects more men than we often realise, and it's no longer just something we're talking about behind closed doors. This year, expect to see a continued rise in demand for treatments that not only tackle hair loss but also nurture overall scalp health. L'Oreal advises beauty fans to use the product every day, on thoroughly cleansed skin. One beauty fan has also been raving about another posh cream that she said makes her look decades younger than 70. The Elizabeth Arden Visible Difference Refining Moisture Cream Complex would normally cost £40, but it's available for just £15 right now on Amazon. And shoppers are also raving about Boots' range of Korean skincare, as beauty experts estimate that South Korea is 10-12 years ahead of the Europe and the US in terms of skincare and aesthetic treatments. However, as many products contain salmon sperm, Korean beauty isn't for everyone.

Gardener shares 'genius' hack using old tights to keep garden tidy and pest-free
If you've got an old pair of tights lying around in your drawers, it could come in very handy for keeping your garden organised. We've been fortunate enough to enjoy some great weather this summer already, and it's hoped that more brilliant days lie ahead. Given this, it's crucial to ensure your garden remains in tip-top condition, from nurturing the plants to keeping your lawn in good condition. Beyond caring for the foliage, it's equally essential to keep your garden neat and organised, just as you would your house. And there's a quirky yet brilliant trick that can assist with this task. Michael the Mediterranean Gardener reveals you can utilise an old pair of tights to maintain your garden's tidiness and organisation - whilst also helping to deter unwanted pests. Speaking on Instagram, he encouraged gardeners to rummage through their drawers and wardrobes for forgotten, unused pairs of tights that might be gathering dust. He claims they're a surprising yet superb tool for keeping gardens and sheds organised - and the method couldn't be more straightforward to carry out, reports the Express. Why you should put tights in the garden According to Michael, old tights can be used for keeping your garden pots all in one place, stopping them from blowing around the garden and being infested with spiders. Displaying a pair to the camera, he explained: "Grab your old tights. If they're really old and have a hole in the foot, you can tie a knot in the end." Next, take a knife and slice through the gusset so you've got two individual legs. You can then gather all your gardening pots that would otherwise simply be scattered about, either outdoors or in the shed, and begin to 'shove them down' into the foot. The improvised bag should expand perfectly, enabling you to stack all of your garden pots within. You can then hang this up inside your shed or even just beside your back door, and whenever you need to get a pot out, cut and pull one out from the bottom. Social media users on Instagram and TikTok were left blown away by this trick, with many suggesting their own ways that they use old tights in the garden. One person said: "I cut up old tights into strips and use as ties to hold plants to canes too! Works like a charm and they're flexible so minimal damage to stems etc." Another said: "Great idea and the spiders won't get in." And a third added: "That's really genius, and the slugs are kept off them too."
