Sheda Miri 2025 Roadshow returns this August
MIRI (May 18): The Sarawak Housing and Real Estate Developers' Association (Sheda) Miri branch will host the Sheda Miri 2025 Home & Property Roadshow this Aug 7 to 10 at the ground floor of the Old Wing of Bintang Megamall.
Open daily from 10am to 10pm, the four-day event will feature over 20 exhibition booths, showcasing a wide mix of property developers from Miri and beyond, alongside hardware suppliers and home improvement businesses.
The roadshow aims to serve as a comprehensive platform for homebuyers, investors, and industry stakeholders to explore the latest in residential and commercial property developments.
The official opening ceremony is scheduled for 9.30am on Aug 8, to be officiated by Miri mayor Adam Yii.
Speaking at a press conference here yesterday, organising chairman Aaron Hii of Jiajaya Sdn Bhd expressed confidence in this year's showcase.
'The Sheda Miri Roadshow continues to be a focal point for both homebuyers and investors to connect with developers and industry experts,' he said.
'Whether you're planning to purchase your first home or expand your real estate portfolio, there is something valuable here for everyone.'
Key highlights will include residential and commercial developments across Sarawak, financial advice on housing loans, and networking opportunities with experts from the development and finance sectors.
Booth prices range from RM3,700 to RM4,050, with a 10 per cent early bird discount for bookings made by July 7, 2025.
Sheda members are also entitled to a 10 per cent discount.
A 'Best Booth Design' competition will run throughout the roadshow, offering a cash prize of RM1,000 to the winner.
The event is open to all—from first-time buyers to seasoned property investors and real estate professionals.

RM1.1m allocated for Madani village, school projects in Kg Kiau
KOTA BELUD: The government has allocated RM1.1 million for development projects in Kampung Kiau under the Madani Adopted Village and School programme. The funding was announced by Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Datuk Ewon Benedick. Of the total, RM1 million will fund seven small-scale infrastructure projects in the village. Another RM100,000 was granted to the Parent-Teacher Association of Sekolah Kebangsaan Kiau. Govt expenditure on civil servants' salaries expected to reach RM18bil next year
KOTA BARU: The government's expenditure on civil servants' salaries is expected to increase to RM18 billion next year, up from RM10 billion this year, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said. Speaking at the closing ceremony of the Madani Rakyat programme here today, Anwar said the increase reflected the government's commitment to the welfare and well-being of public sector employees. Anwar, who is also finance minister, said the rise would take into account the increasing cost of living, including expenses related to education and healthcare, while ensuring fairness to civil servants. "Under the 13th Malaysia Plan, the economic ceiling and floor for the people must rise accordingly. "Thus, the Madani government urges private companies to set a minimum wage of RM1,700, while government-linked companies are to set it at RM3,100. "All government companies have been asked to ensure the implementation of the salary increase. They have also been reminded not only to take pride in profits but also to appreciate their employees, especially in the public sector. "The same applies to other groups such as farmers, fishermen, and padi farmers, who also receive various government benefits and incentive increases," he said. Also present was Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud. Anwar said while the government welcomed constructive criticism, he urged critics to also acknowledge the many changes the Madani government has brought about to the country. "We also recognise the importance of the government being close to the people to highlight important issues, such as through today's programme. "The people's income also depends on the country's economy, which can only be driven by a stable government and requires good cooperation between the federal and state governments," he said. It was previously reported that more than 1.6 million civil servants benefited from income increases ranging between 16.8 percent and 42.7 percent, along with changes to pension and retirement frameworks, with financial implications exceeding RM10 billion annually for the government. The salary adjustment is part of public service reforms under the Public Service Remuneration Scheme (SSPA), especially for civil servants in the executive group Grade 26 and below, who have low basic salaries.

Historic Taiping Market set to rival Australia's best, says Nga
TAIPING: The century-old market here is making a comeback, not just as a trading hub, but as a new tourist landmark. Once the heart of the town's bustling commerce, the historic Taiping Market is set to reopen next year, with hopes of rivalling world-famous markets like Melbourne's Queen Victoria Market and Perth's Fremantle Market. Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming, who announced an additional RM100,000 allocation for lighting upgrades at the site, described the market's redevelopment as a transformative project in town. "Everyone knows this market. It used to be very old and worn down, but now it's getting a second life. "So in the future, this picture at night can be taken and sold as a postcard for Taiping. It can be sent worldwide, on a par with Victoria Market in Melbourne and Fremantle Market in Perth," he told reporters at the site here today. Nga said the market would officially reopen next year to coincide with the 70th birthday celebration of the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, as well as the Visit Malaysia Year 2026 campaign. "The main structure is already completed. We're just adding finishing touches like LED lighting to enhance its charm and appeal. "That's why we're holding off the opening, to align with these two major milestones. Sultan Nazrin is expected to officiate the grand opening," he said. Nga said this when asked about the delay in the completion of the renovation works, which were previously reported to be scheduled for completion by August last year. As for the Day and Night Market located next to the Taiping Market, Nga said it would open next month in conjunction with Malaysia Day. He said the market project was part of a broader RM67 million development initiative comprising five major projects across the district. In addition, he also announced a new RM10.4 million allocation for infrastructure upgrades and landscaping projects in Taiping. "This includes nine infrastructure upgrades worth RM4.1 million. Among them are the refurbishment of the Kamunting General Market, the upgrading of hawker stalls at the Jalan Stesen Kamunting Hawker Centre and the installation of CCTV systems for the Taiping Municipal Council. "Another RM500,000 will go towards landscaping improvements at the Tanjung Sungai Mas Open Area, to create a more vibrant and liveable space for residents," he said. Nga also announced RM2.2 million for maintenance work at 22 non-Muslim houses of worship, alongside RM3.5 million for 24 new housing and Kampung Baru development projects. "Why is Taiping getting all this special attention? Because it's a national heritage town, a truly unique place with many Malaysian 'firsts'. "Taiping has the first market, the first court, the first land office, the first railway, the first church, the first museum and the list goes on.
