NewJeans open to returning to ADOR despite mental health woes that forced them to take antidepressants — but they've one condition
NewJeans' (NJZ) mental health claims
NewJeans shared through their legal team that they no longer trust ADOR, claiming the agency has completely changed since HYBE took over from Min Hee-jin, who originally helped the group rise to success. They described feeling distressed even being near ADOR's building and revealed that some members have started taking medication due to stress. Comparing their situation to 'a bullied person being forced to face their bully,' NJZ also mentioned that the supportive staff they once relied on have left, and that ADOR no longer listens to them.
Hanni's CCTV footage sparks trust issues among NJZ ADOR denies wrongdoing
Adding to their concerns, NJZ's legal team pointed to missing CCTV footage involving member Hanni—while her entrance into the ADOR building was recorded, the footage of her leaving was absent. They argued this gap unfairly painted her as dishonest and showed the agency's failure to protect its artists. In response, ADOR's legal team claimed the footage was automatically deleted after 30 days, calling it a standard procedure and not grounds to terminate a contract. Despite the ongoing legal conflict, reports suggest ADOR is still preparing for NewJeans' comeback and insists its team is ready to support the group.
NJZ open to returning to ADOR—under one condition
What caught the most attention during the latest hearing was a surprising statement from NJZ's legal team: the members are not completely against returning to ADOR. However, they made it clear that this would only be possible if the agency could return to how it was before the audit in April 2024. If that environment can't be restored, they said, the group would prefer to terminate the contract and move on.
NJZ's legal team says group became collateral damage in HYBE-Min Hee Jin conflict
NJZ's legal representatives argued that the group's ongoing legal conflict stems from HYBE's audit of former ADOR CEO Min Hee Jin in April 2024. They explained that although the core issue was an allegation of breach of duty, it was NewJeans who ended up bearing the brunt of the fallout.
'This legal fight began because HYBE launched an audit against Min Hee Jin, accusing her of trying to seize control and take NewJeans,' the team stated. 'But the audit found no such evidence, and police later confirmed she did not commit breach of duty. The group suffered the most during this entire process.' They further claimed the audit and subsequent dismissal attempts were baseless and aimed at removing Min Hee Jin from power.
More about NewJeans vs ADOR drama
The dispute began in November 2024 when NJZ publicly terminated their contract and rebranded, citing broken trust, especially after Min Hee Jin's dismissal as ADOR CEO. In October 2024, member Hanni testified before a parliamentary committee about workplace harassment.
Despite ADOR gaining legal ground, NJZ has declined to appeal injunctions and remains on hiatus since their March ComplexCon Hong Kong performance.
