Don't ask the Congress leader to apologise because he has levelled such charges earlier too. Enough of such allegations and apologies. Since the charges were made through detailed presentation and analysis, ECI should counter them similarly.
Don't let the matter die by simply declaring the allegations 'absurd'.
Initiate probe and file an FIR.
If charges are proven, take actions against erring officials.
If allegations turn baseless, start instant legal proceedings against Gandhi for defaming a constitutional body.
Processes should be fasttracked. After all, it's about the prestige of our own
democracy

If needed, the commission can be like Akbar, who, as the revised NCERT textbook says, was 'brutal but tolerant'. The rule of law, in certain cases, must be brutal. ECI should settle the 'vote theft' allegations once and for all. History can at times be an interpretation of the bygone era, but facts aren't opinions. Did Maratha kings control parts of Rajasthan? NCERT textbook says yes, Rajasthan's royals say no. Probably, this matter could be allowed to linger. But 'vote theft' charges can't be allowed to persist. Allegations aren't diamonds that they last forever.

House panel flags concerns over quality of data for assessing JJM's performance
. NEW DELHI: A parliamentary panel has flagged its concerns over the authenticity of data being fed into the Jal Jeevan Mission's (JJM's) Integrated Management Information System (IMIS), noting that the quality of uploaded information is essential to fill the visible gaps in the ambitious scheme of providing functional tap water connection to every rural household in the country. The panel -- standing committee on water resources headed by BJP Lok Sabha MP Rajiv Pratap Rudy -- in its report tabled in Parliament on Monday also noted the absence of annual assessment of the functionality of tap water connections in 2023. The annual assessment of functionality is vital to ensure long-term source and system sustainability and corrective measures by states/UTs based on its findings. 'Being aware of the fact that actual veracity of uploaded information is essential for realising the actual ground situation and filling the visible gaps, the Committee reiterate its recommendation that the department (of drinking water and sanitation) makes sincere efforts to ensure the authenticity of the data being fed on the IMIS,' said the report. While the panel observed that the department has cited a number of steps being taken by it for water quality monitoring and surveillance, it noted that the govt 'has not furnished specific reply' on ascertaining the veracity of the information uploaded by the states/UTs on JJM-IMIS. Indeed, there are a few activities that do more to energise the economy and multiply employment, Jaishankar said. In his address, Jaishankar emphasised the diversity, richness and the wonderful heritage that "our civilisation has nurtured", and said today there is an "enormous effort" to present to the world what really India is. He also said that in recent years, India has made "sustained efforts" to make "our heritage and culture more visible to the world", citing the inscription of multiple Indian heritage sites on the UNESCO World Heritage List in the past several years. "We have so much to be proud of and so much to share with the world," he asserted. "Our approach has long been driven by Vasudhaiva Kutumbakum and Atithi Devo Bhava. While we will always benefit with such openness, it is essential, in times of unpredictability, to stand firmly on our own feet. "Atmanirbharta is, of course, the mindset to deal with global turbulence. But it is also the basis to strengthen our self-confidence, to increase our resilience, and to lay the foundation for Viksit Bharat," he added. In his address, Jaishankar also asserted that more than diplomacy, it is actually tourism that connects any nation to the world. "Your industry helps to prepare a global workforce at a time when international mobility is becoming more common... Every action in this sector helps enhance brand India," the minister said. He recalled that in 2023, during India's presidency of the G20, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was very "determined" that every state of India must get a chance to showcase itself before the world. "As part of a strategy, G20 conferences were therefore held close to heritage sites or naturally beautiful landscapes, and delegates were afforded opportunities for maximum cultural immersion," he said, adding that every state rose to the occasion and put their "best foot forward". The impression the delegates took back with them "will stand us in very good stead" and it is for this reason "we say G20 connected India to the world, and equally the world to India", Jaishankar said.

Amid 'vote chori' row, BJP claims Sonia Gandhi listed as voter before becoming citizen
NEW DELHI: The BJP on Wednesday launched a counterattack on the Congress, questioning its alleged attempt at 'vote-chori' by reportedly seeking inclusion of Sonia Gandhi's name in the electoral roll years before she was granted Indian citizenship. In response to the Congress's criticism of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) system and its allegations of electoral malpractice, BJP IT Cell chief Amit Malviya took to 'X' (formerly Twitter), saying, 'Sonia Gandhi's tryst with India's voters' list is riddled with glaring violations of electoral law.' He wrote, 'This perhaps explains Rahul Gandhi's fondness for regularising ineligible and illegal voters, and his opposition to the SIR. Her name first appeared on the rolls in 1980 — three years before she became an Indian citizen and while she still held Italian citizenship. At the time, the Gandhi family lived at 1, Safdarjung Road, the official residence of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Until then, the voters registered at that address were Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, Sanjay Gandhi, and Maneka Gandhi.' Tagging a copy of the requisition slip for adding Sonia Gandhi's name, Malviya claimed, 'In 1980, the electoral rolls of the New Delhi parliamentary constituency were revised with January 1, 1980, as the qualifying date. During this revision, Sonia Gandhi's name was added, appearing at serial number 388 in polling station 145'. He alleged in the post, 'This entry was a clear violation of the law, which requires a person to be an Indian citizen to be registered as a voter. Following an outcry in 1982, her name was deleted from the list — only to reappear in 1983. But even her reinstatement raised serious questions. In the fresh revision of the electoral rolls that year, Sonia Gandhi was listed at serial number 236 in polling. Thakur's vote theft charge Ex-Union Minister Anurag Thakur alleged voter registration irregularities in Rae Bareli, Wayanad, Diamond Harbour, and Kannauj. He accused Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and Akhilesh Yadav of winning through 'vote theft.'
