Dell raises full-year profit forecast on strong AI server demand

(Reuters) -Dell Technologies raised its annual profit forecast on Thursday, signaling growing demand for its AI-powered servers that are equipped with Nvidia's powerful chips.
Companies such as Dell and Super Micro Computer have benefited from the growing demand for these servers, but the high cost of producing them and tough competition have pressured margins.
"We generated $12.1 billion in AI orders this quarter alone, surpassing the entirety of shipments in all of FY25 and leaving us with $14.4 billion in backlog," Dell's Chief Operating Officer Jeff Clarke said.
The results follow the U.S. Department of Energy's announcement on Thursday that it would launch a new supercomputer, named Doudna, which will use Dell and Nvidia's advanced technology to perform complex computing tasks.
Dell now expects annual adjusted profit to be $9.40 per share, compared with its prior forecast of $9.30 per share. The company reiterated its annual revenue outlook.
It forecast second-quarter revenue to be between $28.5 billion and $29.5 billion, above analysts' average estimate of $25.05 billion, according to data compiled by LSEG.
Dell's adjusted profit forecast for the second quarter of $2.25 per share was also above estimates of $2.09.
First-quarter revenue came in at $23.38 billion, compared with estimates of $23.14 billion.
Dell's revenue from its infrastructure solutions group, which includes storage, software and server offerings, rose 12% to $10.32 billion. Revenue from its client solutions group, that houses its PC business, rose 5% to $12.51 billion.
On an adjusted basis, the company earned $1.55 per share in the first quarter, missing estimates of $1.69.

Soccer-Premier League clubs agree to extend price cap on away tickets

Since the price cap was introduced in 2016, away game attendance has risen from 82% to 91%. The cumulative away attendance for the 380 matches during the 2024-25 season was 953,420. "The Premier League and clubs recognise the additional costs associated with fans following their team during the season, and the incredible atmospheres they create at matches," the league said in a statement. This comes after fans of several Premier League clubs united under the Football Supporters' Association campaign "Stop Exploiting Loyalty", prompting a ticket price freeze next season from clubs like Liverpool, Brentford, and Manchester City. Top Cuban official accuses US of escalating tensions, raises concerns of conflict

Speaking to reporters at the Cuban Embassy in Washington, Johana Tablada, deputy director for U.S. affairs in Cuba's foreign ministry, said an armed clash between the two old Cold War rivals was "not a good idea" and that the Cuban government was trying to ease the situation but that the U.S. appeared determined to further damage relations. Tablada said new Trump administration measures targeting Communist-ruled Cuba intend to "dynamite our relation(ship) to really provoke a rupture of relation, and even to create conditions, in my opinion, for, if necessary, a military confrontation." Republican U.S. President Donald Trump and his top officials have taken a hardline approach to Cuba since he took office in January, returning longtime foe Cuba to a U.S. list of State Sponsors of Terrorism, tightening rules on remittances, and shutting off migration programs that allowed some Cubans to work in the U.S. legally. Trump officials have not publicly threatened any military action. The U.S. State Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment. U.S. Chief of Mission Mike Hammer - the top U.S. diplomat in Havana - has traveled the island widely in recent months to meet with political dissidents, raising the ire of the Cuban government, which accuses him of seeking to foment unrest. Cuba's foreign ministry last week issued a verbal warning to Hammer, saying he had incited "Cuban citizens to commit serious criminal acts, attack the constitutional order, or encourage them to act against the authorities," calling his actions a violation of the Vienna Convention norms on diplomatic relations. Tablada accused Hammer of channeling U.S. humanitarian funds to undermine the Cuban government and said Cuban diplomats would not be allowed to engage in similar behavior in the U.S. 'To push both countries into scenarios of confrontation and collision is not a good idea,' she said. Just days before Trump took office in January former President Joe Biden's administration removed Cuba from its terrorism blacklist, effectively reversing sanctions from Trump's first term. After returning to office, Trump quickly returned Cuba to the blacklist and also reinstated many of the restrictions on trade and travel that Biden had eased.
