Investment scam: 4 fake cops arrested

Time of India4 days ago
Lucknow: The Gomtinagar police busted a gang that allegedly took money from investors on the promise of huge returns and then posed as special operations group (SOG) or crime branch officers to intimidate their victims.
Four suspects were arrested late on Thursday near Vineet Khand, Gomtinagar, the police said.
The crackdown followed an FIR filed on July 16 by one Rajkumar who alleged that the accused asked him to invest in a 'money doubling' scheme. He said that the accused took cash from him, but later refused to return it. They told him that they were from the crime branch and he better forget his money, Rajkumar added.
Those arrested were identified as Vishal Kumar (25), Ram Bahadur (46), Ram Prasad (34) and Anjani Kumar (40).
The police said that 30 bundles of 'children bank' play notes, Rs 30,000 in cash, one country-made .315 bore pistol, one live .315 cartridge and fake police IDs were recovered from them.
DCP, east zone, Shashank Singh said that the gang contacted targets promising to double their invested money. After collecting funds, members allegedly posed as crime branch/SOG personnel to exert pressure on complainants to keep mum. Bundles of fake cash stacked with real currency notes were used to prove liquidity during initial meetings, the police said.
Singh said that the accused are being interrogated to examine if the group operated a wider inter-state investor scam using multiple mobile numbers.

Complaint filed against creators of Ayodhya Ram temple replica

Visakhapatnam: The replica of Ayodhya Ram temple set up at RK Beach in Visakhapatnam gets into controversy after two months of its establishment. Representatives of Sree Seetha Ramachandra Swamy Vari Devasthanam, Bhadradri Kothagudem district, Bhadrachalam lodged a complaint with III Town Police of Visakhapatnam against the organisers of the 91-ft-tall Ayodhya Ram Mandir. According to their complainant, it was mentioned that priests from Bhadrachalam Devasthanam were arriving for the ensuing 'Seetharama Kalyanam' scheduled at the Ayodhya Ram Mandir on July 29. Ram Mandir organisers took to social media platforms campaigning that the Bhadrachalam priests will be performing the kalyanam in the temple. The organisers are charging Rs 2,999 from each person for the ritual. However, the complainants mentioned that they were not informed by the organisers about the 'kalyanam' and they have no connection with the ritual. They demanded action against the Ram Mandir organisers for collecting ticket money from the devotees under the garb of performing 'Seetharama Kalyanam' with the participation of Bhadrachalam priests. 'The ticket collection and 'kalyanam' should be stopped with immediate effect and a criminal case should be filed against the organisers for violating the law and cheating the people,' informed L Rama Devi, Special Deputy Collector and Executive Officer of Bhadrachalam Devasthanam.
