Harish Rao gives presentation on Kaleshwaram, details about the project
Former minister and BRS leader Harish Rao has issued a robust defence of the Kaleshwaram project following criticisms. Presenting a detailed PowerPoint at Telangana Bhavan, Rao highlighted that the project has successfully supplied water to a total of 2.033 million acres.
Rao noted that discussions regarding the project proceeded without any objections from Maharashtra, stating that he engaged with Maharashtra representatives to address concerns within 45 days of the government's formation.
He said that the Kaleshwaram project encompasses three barrages, fifteen reservoirs, nineteen substations, twenty-one pump houses, 203 kilometres of tunnels, 1,531 kilometres of gravity canals, 98 kilometres of pressure mains, and a storage capacity of 141 TMC, with water lifts reaching heights of 530 metres. "Initially designed to source water from Tammidihati to Yellampalli, the project was relocated to Medigadda due to reduced water availability at Tammidihati. The Medigadda barrage was constructed in seven blocks and supported by 85 piers," Rao said
Rao responded to Congress claims that farming had succeeded without Kaleshwaram, asserting that it is this very project that facilitated crop production in the Yasangi season. He emphasised that water availability via the project is sourced from three different locations, capable of filling thousands of tanks. "Everything built from Medigadda to Mallanna Sagar is operational," he added. The canal associated with the Kaleshwaram project alone is projected to provide water for 90,000 acres of land.

Tummala terms Eatala Rajender's remarks on Kaleshwaram as ‘motivated and misleading'
Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao strongly refuted the comments of BJP MP and his former colleague in the BRS government, Eatala Rajender, before the PC Ghose Commission on the Kaleshwaram project that alleged his role in the clearance of the project. 'Eatala's comments on me are completely false, and one wonders whether they were made under external pressure,' the Minister remarked at a press conference here on Saturday while questioning the motives behind them. Mr. Tummala clarified that the sub-committee he had referenced was not related to the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project but to look into other pending projects under the broader umbrella of irrigation, such as Devadula, Kantanapalli, and Dummugudem. 'It was never constituted specifically for Kaleshwaram project,' he explained. The Minister also revealed that the Kaleshwaram project never received formal Cabinet approval. The KCR Cabinet did not deliberate or come forward with a decision on the project. The works were executed merely based on an executive order, he argued. The Minister announced that he would submit the sub-committee report related to irrigation projects to the Kaleshwaram Commission suo motu, and would fully cooperate with the panel. 'At the appropriate time, I will tell the Commission what really happened with the Kaleshwaram project,' he said. He further said, 'My suggestions at that time were always in the interest of the people and farmers.' He said he is ready for a transparent discussion with anyone, but misleading the people with false statements is not acceptable.

Rahul shamelessly peddling lies on Maharashtra poll, says Nadda
BJP president J.P. Nadda on Saturday (June 7, 2025) described Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi's article in an English daily alleging rigging in the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly election as 'a blueprint for manufacturing fake narratives, owing to his sadness and desperation of losing election after election'. 'Here's how he does it, step by step: Step 1: Congress party gets defeated election after election due to his antics. Step 2: Instead of introspecting, he cooks up bizarre conspiracies and cries rigging. Step 3: Ignores all facts and data. Step 4: Defames institutions with zero proof. Step 5: Hopes for headlines over facts,' said Mr. Nadda via a post on X. And, he is doing this because a defeat in Bihar is certain. Democracy doesn't need drama. It needs truth.' In the article titled 'Match-fixing Maharashtra' published on Saturday (June 7, 2025), Mr. Gandhi said the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly election saw 'industrial-scale rigging involving the capture of our national institutions'.

Eatala Rajender shielding KCR in Kaleshwaram probe: Congress
The ruling Congress leaders, including Government Whip Aadi Srinivas, have slammed BJP MP from Malkajgiri and former Finance Minister Eatala Rajender, accusing him of attempting to shield former Chief Minister and BRS chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao in the probe into the irregularities in the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS) during his appearance before Justice P.C. Ghose Commission. The Vemulawada MLA said that it has now become evident that the merger of BJP and BRS would be a reality sooner or later. Speaking to the media at CLP media point here on Saturday, the Vemulawada MLA has charged Mr. Rajender, the finance minister in the KCR Cabinet, with trying to assist his former boss come out clean from the charges he is facing in the execution of the KLIS. 'Mr. Rajender did not disclose the truth, though everyone anticipated that he would spill the beans before the commission. Even BJP leaders, including Union Minister Kishan Reddy, said that Mr. Rajender would reveal the truth behind the KLIS,' Mr. Srinivas said, reminding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party chief JP Nadda had also accused Mr. Rao and his family of using the Kaleshwaram project as an ATM. 'The BJP leaders demanded several times to order a probe into the KLIS fraud. Mr. Rajender himself also stated that Mr. Rao did everything concerning the KLIS. But Mr. Rajender had deposed before the commission contradicting his statements,' the MLA said, questioning his u-turn. 'As BRS leader Kavitha already said that there was an understanding between BJP and BRS, now this has been proved again with Mr. Rajender's statement, ' the MLA said, demanding an explanation from BJP leaders Mr. Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay Kumar on Rajender's statement. Meanwhile, Choppadandi MLA Medipally Sathyam also made similar comments against Mr. Rajender. 'It seems as if he is going to the BRS,' he alleged.
