Raw sewage leaking into Lake Harmony
'Every flush, every shower just overflows and fills it into the back of the building,' homeowner Victoria Mann said.
An unknown amount of raw sewage is leaking into a lagoon that connects to Lake Harmony in the Poconos.
In a notice obtained by 28/22 News, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection issued a violation to Split Rock Resort in May for pollution and unpermitted discharge at three pump stations around the resort, including the lagoon.
The leak violates section 201 of Pennsylvania's Clean Streams Law, which states, 'No person or municipality shall place or permit to be placed, or discharge or permit to flow, or continue to discharge or permit to flow, into any of the waters of the commonwealth any sewage, except as hereinafter provided in this act.'
Victoria Mann is a homeowner in the area and is deeply concerned.
Man accused of murder, burning woman's body has court appearance
'Even though I don't physically live in the Split Rock community, their wildlife is our wildlife. Their ground is our ground. Water, the sewage could possibly be going into aquifer, could be getting into a stream, could be being sent anywhere. It just doesn't seem fair to have it happen to our beautiful community that we all love here,' said Mann.
Mann says she just wants the pumps fixed, and if they aren't fixed, the building should be shut down until they are.
'There was an excessive amount of raw sewage that was pouring into the area behind the pump. We just want to have some kind of future moving forward and some security from Split Rock, knowing that this will not continue to happen,' said Mann.
28/22 News reached out to Split Rock Resort for comment on this sewage leak, but have not heard back.
28/22 News also reached out to the Department of Environmental Protection and Kidder Township for comment, but did not hear back.

NYC teachers rally for student's immediate release from ICE custody
Immigration advocates rallied on the steps of the New York City Department of Education headquarters demanding a student's immediate release from federal custody. Mamadou Mouctar Diallo's teachers joined city leaders at the rally Thursday morning. They said he should be in his classroom at Brooklyn Frontiers High School, instead of a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention center. Diallo, a 20-year-old asylum seeker from Guinea, was detained by ICE agents last week following a routine immigration court appearance at 26 Federal Plaza in Lower Manhattan, advocates said. ICE did not provide a statement on why Diallo was taken into custody, but confirmed he was being held at a correctional facility in Pennsylvania. "Take a good look at this young man who came here from his home in West Africa. He's alone," NYC Council Member Rita Joseph said while holding his picture at the rally. "Mamadou did the right thing. He showed up for his routine check in and he was abducted. "A student seeking a better life, pursuing his education, has been stripped." Diallo's teachers at Brooklyn Frontiers said he was focused on his studies, making friends and contributing to his community. The school's website says it is a transfer school "serving students who are over-age and under-credited." "He's a very bright, sweet, respectful young man that was going to a court date that was unjustly taken," one of Diallo's teachers said. "For me, to be standing here today to advocate for one of my students to be released from ICE, it's just horrible," Pedro Grand said. "He recently completed a culinary internship. He's completed a security guard training program and is excited to get to work. He's a member of the Audubon society," City Council Member Lincoln Restler said. "He's a model student." Diallo is at least the third NYC public schools student detained by ICE this year, according to city immigration advocates. A 20-year-old named Dylan was detained in May and also has not been released. A 19-year-old named Derlis was released in July after spending a month in custody. Mayor Eric Adams' office said the administration is reviewing potential legal actions it could take in Diallo's case. "We are aware that one of our students has been detained by ICE after attending a routine immigration hearing. We are gathering more information and reviewing next steps, including our legal options. This did not occur in a school, and we urge our families to continue to send students to school, where they are safe," a City Hall spokesperson said. City Schools Chancellor Melissa Aviles-Ramos previously issued the statement, "Our team is standing with the student's family, working closely to connect them with legal support and other critical services." New York is a sanctuary city and ICE agents are not permitted on public school grounds without a court order, subpoena or warrant signed by a judge. School starts in New York City on September 4.

Mother of two students dismissed from Penn Trafford School District over residency concerns has sons reinstated
Earlier this summer, a mother in the Penn Trafford School District said that her two kids were dismissed from the school for this upcoming year because the district claimed they no longer lived there. After her story came to light, several attorneys and the not-for-profit group Yes, Every Kid got involved, and as of Wednesday, both of Jennifer Brown's sons have been reinstated. "Jennifer's story highlights how families across the country are being harassed by school districts," said Halli Faulkner, legislative director of Yes, Every Kid, in a statement. "We are thrilled that Penn-Trafford School District has dropped its case, and Jennifer's children can re-enroll for the upcoming school year. School districts should not be in the business of immorally spending resources to kick children out of public school." Brown said she is grateful to everyone who reached out to help. In a letter sent to Brown by the school district last month, they said they were dismissing her son, Landon, from the high school and her son, Lorenzo, from Harrison Park Elementary. Brown, a single mother, lives at a home on Burrell Hill Road in Penn Township. "My father owns it," Brown said, referring to the house. "My Grandfather built it. I will be inheriting it next." Brown provided the district with documentation of residency, including tax returns, internet bills, pay stubs, and more. "Anything that I could find with my name and address, I have given to them, and my children are still currently withdrawn from the district," she said.
