Want to save money on groceries? Aldi slashes summer prices. About the deals

Aldi, a discount grocery store chain, is ramping up savings for customers. The no-frills grocery chain, where you drop a quarter into a slot to use a grocery cart, has announced it will again cut prices over the summer. The annual tradition means prices will drop on almost 25% of Aldi's products, or more than 400 items, including meat and produce. Some prices could drop as much as 33 percent, Aldi chief commercial officer Scott Patton told USA TODAY. The Germany-based discount grocery chain said it will be reducing prices on nearly 25% of its products — more than 400 items including meat and produce — at its more than 2,400 stores. Prices will be reduced as much as 33% on the 400-plus products over the summer, "Summer's for grilling out, camping, concerts, and quality time with friends and family – not stressing over grocery bills," Patton said. "That's why we decided to offer even lower prices on Aldi favorites all summer long. Our unique business model with smaller store footprints, 90% private brands and strong supplier partnerships means we can deliver real savings where other grocers can't." The price cuts began June 5 and will continue through Labor Day, Sept. 1. Aldi announced in February it plans to open more than 225 new stores in 2025 as part of a five-year growth plan to add 800 stores by the end of 2028. As of May 29, 18 Aldi locations due to open soon across Florida, including one that opened June 5 in Ocala. ➤ Hundreds of people marked the opening of the new Marion Oaks ALDI on June 5 About 220 Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket stores purchased by Aldi, will be converted to the smaller, simpler Aldi format by 2027. On Aldi's grand opening page, the chain lists 18 new locations will be coming to Florida: Arcadia, 1737 East Oak St. Aventura, Promenade Shops, 20417 Biscayne Blvd. Boynton Beach, Cobblestone Commons, 8855 Boynton Beach Blvd. Bushnell, Walker Ridge Square, 1122 N Main St. Crystal River, Crystal River Shopping Center, 1651 SE U.S. Highway 19 Deerfield Beach, Crossroads Shopping Center, 301 W Sample Road Fleming Island, Town Center at Eagle Harbor, 1545 County Road 220 Fort Lauderdale, Southland Shopping Center, 941 SW 24th St. Jensen Beach, Palm Breeze Plaza, 1105 NE Jensen Beach Blvd. Lake Wales, Lake Wales Shopping Center, 1860 State Road 60 E Lehigh Acres, 61 Bell Blvd. N Lutz, Sunset Plaza, 18407 US Highway 41 Melbourne, The Ocean Springs Shopping Village, 961 E. Eau Gallie Blvd. Ocala, Marion Oaks Shopping Center, 184 Marion Oaks Blvd. Orlando, Metro West Marketplace, 1403 S Hiawassee Road St. Cloud, 3318 Canoe Creek Road Tampa, 15692 N Dale Mabry Highway The Villages, 820 Old Camp Road Westlake, Grove Market, 5062 Seminole Pratt Whitney Road Aldi is an international chain of no-frills grocery stores with no coupons and few, if any, big-name brand products. There is no meat counter, deli, pharmacy, bakery, or liquor store. There are no elaborate displays, no overhead music, a much smaller selection with few duplicates of item brands, lots of house brands, and fewer open hours. The goal of all of these is to keep prices low, the company said. You pay a quarter to get a shopping cart, which you get back when you return the cart, and you bag your own groceries with empty boxes from the store or bags you bought from home. You can purchase bags at the store if you forget them. This article originally appeared on Florida Times-Union: Aldi lowers prices for summer in annual tradition: Florida locations

Looking for a unique way to style flowers? Martha Stewart and Meghan Markle's vase alternatives will make you rethink conventional vessels

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. There's never a bad time to dress your entryway with flowers, but if there's ever a particularly good time, it's summer. It goes without saying that the upcoming season offers every excuse to fill your rooms with beautiful blooms, but for 2025, I wanted to take things further than a conventional glass vase. This is where Meghan Markle and Martha Stewart's inspiration comes into play. A unifying thread between Meghan and Martha is their unique alternatives to vases. Starting with Meghan. She recently shared footage of her flower arrangement from her Montecito home, in which she styles roses in a cream urn, typically a vessel that's used for much larger flower arrangements. It's undeniably unique; however, it's not the first time I've seen a unique vase alternative this week. Only a few days ago, the celebrity style team also covered how Martha Stewart uses footed compote bowls as a substitute for a classic flower vase, and I couldn't help but notice the similarities between her choice and Meghan's urn, despite Martha's footage dating back through the decades. This planter offers durability and style for your entryway, living room, or outside on your patio. It's perfectly sized for presenting your favorite plants and flowers in a modern and stylish manner. Was $84, now $73.99 at Wayfair Nothing says chic like a glass compote bowl, and this sturdy, Roman-style one meets the mark. From $19.99 on Amazon Give your flower arrangement a luxe vessel with this gold compote bowl, featuring a dainty stem and scalloped edges. From $26.99 on Amazon Despite seeing Meghan's and Martha's vase alternatives in the same week, the latter is certainly nothing new. Martha Stewart first showed off her footed compote arrangement over three decades ago, but the lessons remain just as inspiring in 2025. 'This is a footed compote really meant for candy or fruit, and just take the covers off,' she says in the footage. I have a pair of these and I'm really very fond of them for flower arranging. They stand up off the table and they're pretty.' Martha also shared a tip to ensure your footed compote bowls remain fit for purpose after you get rid of your blooms. 'Protect your containers with a little bit of plastic. If this were silver, the frogs might scratch it, and if it's glass too, a little bit of rust might be left in the bottom of the bowl,' she demonstrates. 'I'm going to use this large spring frog placed right on top of that plastic.' Is this the summer of unconventional vases? With examples from Meghan and Martha to follow, I'm unlikely to go back to a regular flower vessel for the rest of the season.

He did a marathon with 24 hours notice thanks to his wife. Experts advise against it.

He did a marathon with 24 hours notice thanks to his wife. Experts advise against it. "It was fun to poke the bear and then eventually the bear bit me," Logan Goodspeed said with a chuckle. Show Caption Hide Caption Husband runs marathon with no training and 24 hour notice Maisie Todd documented her husband's marathon-running journey, after she signed him up and notified him only 24 hours before! Logan Goodspeed had never run a marathon. He's not even a runner or someone who regularly works out. But last weekend, the 32-year-old participated in his first marathon with just 24 hours' notice. On Sunday, June 1, Goodspeed participated in the Rock 'n' Roll San Diego Marathon thanks to his wife, Maisie Todd, who secretly signed him up back in April. And the entire journey, from Goodspeed learning the news to crossing the finish line, was documented on TikTok, garnering nearly 40 million collective views as of June 5. "I thought it would be funny just to say, 'Oh, I signed my husband up for a marathon with no notice.' That's kind of it. And then so many people wanted updates. I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off on Sunday trying to find him, follow him around, film it, edit it and upload," Todd told USA TODAY. In the end, Goodspeed completed the marathon, half running and half walking, in five hours and 58 minutes, finishing 5,081 out of 5,935 participants, per the Rock 'n' Roll San Diego Marathon website. And though he was a bit sore the day after the race, Goodspeed told USA TODAY on June 3 that he was surprised at just how good he felt. Despite how Goodspeed felt after the race, health experts and running coaches strongly advise against participating in a marathon with zero preparations, as short- and long-term injuries can be serious, or even fatal. Here is Goodspeed's story and journey to the finishing line. How it started So why did Todd sign up her lounging husband for a marathon without any clues? "Logan just kept saying that he could wake up and ... complete a marathon," Todd said. "Everyone was like, 'Come on, Logan, there's no way that you're going to wake up and complete a marathon with 24 hours' notice,' but he kept bringing it up and kept saying he could do it." Goodspeed isn't a fitness guru who "never runs, never swims, (never) bikes." Todd described him as "more of a lounge by the pool and read type of guy." So when Goodspeed was adamant he could take on the challenge, Todd decided to call him out on it. "It was fun to poke the bear and then eventually the bear bit me," Goodspeed said with a chuckle. In a TikTok video with 9.4 million views, the first of the series, Todd wakes Goodspeed up, with a bright camera flash, to let him know he has 24 hours to prepare for the race. "Okay, can't wait," Goodspeed says groggily in the video. As for preparations, there wasn't enough time for the recommended plan to gradually build up mileage over several weeks and months. Rather, Goodspeed needed race snacks and, more importantly, running shoes. After a trip to a nearby second-hand store, Goodspeed ended up with a pair of Adidas Climacool Bounce sneakers, which Adidas markets as "casual running or light workouts." "For more intense training or long-distance running, you might want to consider a shoe with a more responsive midsole," the Adidas website states about its Bounce line. Though the shoes may not have been designed for marathon running, Goodspeed said they were comfortable and did the job. Finishing with time to spare The goal, Goodspeed said, was to complete a full marathon, which is 26.2 miles, in seven hours or less. The key was to complete the marathon, not necessarily run the entire race. At five hours and 58 minutes, Goodspeed said he ran about half the marathon: 13.1 miles. Is it safe to run a marathon with no prep? In addition to the countless comments on TikTok asking for updates, there were also plenty that advised Goodspeed from participating in the race with zero training. Several warned about the risk of rhabdomyolysis, an injury that occurs when muscles break down and release the protein myoglobin in the blood, per the Cleveland Clinic. Rhabdomyolysis can be fatal. Goodspeed said he avoided these comments ahead of the race and knew if he started to experience pain, he would tap out. Fortunately, he didn't, aside from typical soreness. Nonetheless, health experts and running coaches don't recommend tackling a marathon with no training. In 2023, running coach Helen Gaunt told Runner's World that the body is not built to go from zero to 26.2 miles without training. The length of the marathon alone can put stress on various organs, including the heart and lungs. Gaunt advised that beginners start with a 16-week training program to gradually increase mileage. More marathons in the future? Despite the overall success of his first marathon, Goodspeed said he doesn't have plans to sign up, or be signed up, for any more marathons anytime soon. If he were to run a marathon again, Goodspeed said he'd enjoy doing so with a group of friends that could make the race more fun, rather than participating solo.
