Speed camera catches a duck doing nearly double the limit twice in seven years
If a speeding driver got caught out breaking the limit once, it stands to reason they would drop their speed to avoid being caught out a second time.
But this repeat offender can probably excused for being caught twice in the same location – considering it probably has no understanding of speed limits in the first place.
A speed camera in Köniz in central Switzerland automatically snapped a radar image of a speeder travelling at 52kph (32mph) in a 30kph (18mph) zone.
But when police looked through the camera's images, they found that the culprit was in fact a mallard.
And it's also thought this duck is a repeat offender – as a similar-looking bird was captured flying in the same spot, at exactly the same speed, exactly seven years ago.
The town's municipality first thought the picture was either edited or a late April Fool's joke.
But local police said it was impossible to manipulate the images or radar system.
This is because the computers are calibrated and tested every year by the Swiss federal institute of metrology, and any pictures taken by the speed cameras are sealed. More Trending
In a Facebook post, Koeniz officials wished the public 'a lot of fun' in making sense of the 'curious coincidences' which brought the same bird to the same location exactly seven years apart.
'We wish you a lot of fun sensing about curious coincidences, criminal machinations of animals and the maximum flight speed of ducks,' the post read.
According to Ducks Unlimited, most waterfowl fly at speeds of 40-60mph (64-97kph), with many species averaging roughly 50mph (80kph).
But in 2024 a duck was captured flying at almost 103mph (165kph), thanks in part to a helpful tailwind.

In response, one of the pair could be seen flipping up their middle finger at the crowd as the they were bundled into the back of a police van. The curbside protest followed a local social media campaign in which residents of Johnstone have called for "support" to remove her from the area. Videos showing her being moved from the home have been hailed by supporters of the fervent campaign, which has built up across multiple social media accounts, mainly on Facebook. A spokesperson for Police Scotland said however that the crowd dispersed a short time after officers arrived to collect Blain. A spokesperson for the service said: "Around 7.25pm on Monday, 9 June, 2025, we received a report of a crowd gathered outside a property in Floorsburn Crescent, Johnstone. "Officers attended and the crowd dispersed a short time later." Blain's legal team has pleaded not guilty on her behalf following an initial hearing at Glasgow High Court on May 8, with a special defence of incrimination lodged as the defence and prosecution agreed to said they were prepared for a trial. The case, when it comes before the court next year, is expected to last around six days, and several "professional witnesses" are set to be allowed to provide evidence remotely. A fundraiser was launched in the wake of baby Thea's death in a bid to raise roughly £1,200 for the three-week-old's funeral costs. But the page has since been suspended, with donations no longer allowed.

Woman arrested of 'murder' after boy, 4, found dead inside Maidenhead home
A woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a four-year-old boy was found dead at a Maidenhead home. The unnamed youngster was declared dead at the scene when police arrived at the home on Dunholme End around 6.30pm yesterday. His next have kin have been informed. Police said today a 37-year-old woman from Maidenhead has been arrested on suspicion of murder. She remains in custody. More info A busy West Lothian high street has been closed off by emergency services following an incident. West Main Street, Blackburn, is closed after police, the ambulance service and firefighters were called to the scene. Lothian Country also confirmed the service 72, which runs through the town, has been forced to divert. A service alert reads: "Due to a road closure buses are unable to serve West Main Street, Blackburn and are instead diverted via Whitburn Interchange, A801, Boghead Roundabout, A7066 and Blackburn Road in both directions until further notice." The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed two appliances, one from Bathgate and another from Livingston, have been mobilised to the scene, but could not disclose any further details.
