Prizes worth RM2.6mil for golden jubilee golf tourney
RIMBUNAN Hijau Group of Companies is offering attractive prizes totalling RM2.6mil for its hole-in-one golf tournament in Sibu, Sarawak.
The competition on May 10 and 12 at the Sibu Golf Club is held in conjunction with the group's 50th Golden Jubilee celebration.
Organising chairman Datuk Thomas Tieng said the prizes worth RM2.6mil was biggest for such tournament in the country.
He said this at a press conference after receiving the prizes from the main sponsors.
The six main prizes for the hole-in-one included a mid-luxury car and heavy machinery such as excavators.
He added the competition was open to only golfers with a handicap of below 24.
'We will only take in a total of 288 golfers for the two-day event. We will invite golf clubs from throughout the state to send their golfers, but participants must have a handicap of below 24.
'The first day of the competition is an open category while the second day is for VIP and invited guests,' said Tieng.
Those who secure second to 15 positions from both categories, would receive several other prizes that would be known only during the competition day.
Rimbunan Hijau Group managing director, Datuk Tiong Thai King expressed his heartfelt appreciation to all the sponsors.
'Thank you to all the sponsors for your great support as without you, we would not be able to organise it,' he said.

EPB cautiously optimistic of near-term prospects
KUALA LUMPUR: EPB Group Bhd remains cautiously optimistic on its near-term outlook, despite global trade uncertainties and input cost pressures. The group said its confidence is underpinned by a strong balance sheet, an expanding market presence and a clear execution strategy. 'The favourable Asean trade environment, supported by targeted fiscal and monetary policies across key markets, continues to present compelling opportunities for EPB in the food manufacturing and packaging solutions sector,' the one-stop food processing and packaging machinery solutions provider said. In the second quarter ended June 30, EPB posted a slightly higher net profit of RM2.6mil, or 0.70 sen per share, raising first-half (1H25) net profit by 35.2% to RM5.2mil, or 1.40 sen per share. Quarterly revenue jumped 40.2% to RM29.6mil, lifting 1H25 revenue 45% to RM56.9mil. As at July 31, EPB's order book stood at RM81.25mil, of which RM51.65mil is expected to be fulfilled in the second half of the financial year ending Dec 31, 2025 (FY25), and RM29.6mil in 1H26. Notably, over RM70.08mil of the current order book relates to the group's core food processing and packaging machinery segment, reaffirming its dominant contribution to EPB's revenue base. Sibu Journalists Association to launch new welfare initiatives for members in 2026

SIBU (Aug 12): The Sibu Journalists Association (SJA) has announced two new benefits for members in 2026. SJA National Journalists Day (Hawana) 2025 organising chairman Mohamad Alhadi Shamsawi said under the first initiative, each member will receive an RM250 PC Image next year. The voucher can be used to buy new gadgets for daily tasks, such as new earphones or earbuds, and power banks. 'This voucher is given because we know that many of us have to spend our own money to upgrade our gadgets for our work. At least the amount can ease our members' financial burden for the purchase of gadgets,' he said during the SJA Hawana 2025 celebration last night. He said the second initiative is in support of the Communications Ministry's collaboration with AirAsia, which is offering a 50 per cent discount for tickets to various destinations in Asean. 'SJA hereby announces RM200 cashback initiative per person to purchase flight tickets to their chosen destinations. 'This means that if the ticket costs RM400 after the 50 per cent discount, you can claim a RM200 cashback from SJA for the flight ticket,' he said. Mohamad Alhadi said the two new initiatives would hopefully see a new chapter in for SJA as an association that truly cares about the welfare of its members regardless of their media organisation. RM1mil relief for KLFA but no rash spending, says president
PETALING JAYA: For a team that have previously struggled with financial issues, receiving a windfall is certainly a welcome relief, especially with the new Super League season set to begin on Aug 8. The Kuala Lumpur Football Association (KLFA) were handed an unexpected boost when Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced an RM1mil allocation during their Golden Jubilee celebration on Saturday. However, KLFA president Syed Yazid Syed Omar is keeping his excitement in check, stressing that any decision on how the funds will be used must be carefully discussed with the association's executive committee, with the main priority being the development of Kuala Lumpur football. 'We never asked for it, but the Prime Minister made the announcement himself. I didn't expect it at all. It's a substantial amount, and we are very grateful,' said Yazid. 'KLFA need to discuss on how to use the money thoroughly. What matters most is ensuring that KLFA are well managed. As for KL City's long-standing salary arrears and debts, Yazid said most of the outstanding payments have been resolved, although he declined to reveal the exact amount still owed. This season, KL City have also made bold moves in the transfer market by signing several high-profile players, including Manuel Hidalgo, Syamer Kutty Abba and Safawi Rasid. Yazid expressed his gratitude that the club's finances are now in a more stable position, largely due to the support of patron Fahmi Fadzil.
