River City actor heard 'weird noises' from collapsed Glasgow building

Glasgow Times3 days ago
Tom Urie, who played Big Bob in River City, was walking past the tenement on the corner of Kenmure Street and Albert Drive in Pollokshields as he made his way home shortly after midnight when he saw the building was "looking weird" as he heard a noise like heavy rain.
In a video shared on Facebook Tom, who is also a talented musician, says he ran across the street right as the building fell.

He said: "I was out tonight and I got home and parked the car round the corner and as I was walking round the corner I was looking at the building which has been lying derelict for five years since there was a fire thinking it was about time they demolished it that.
"Then I started hearing really weird noises like crackling noises like it was raining really heavily and I looked up and the building was looking weird so I ran across the street as it collapsed."
Tom shared a video of the scene shortly after the building collapsed on Facebook, which showed large amounts of dust coming from the fenced-off site.

There were no injuries reported as a result of the collapse but he said it could have been different had it happened during the day.
He continued: "I managed to get my phone out, turned round and the building's gone.
"An old tenement on the corner of Kenmure Street and Albert Drive just collapsed.
"It was going to get demolished anyway I think but I would hate to think what would have happened if it happened [collapsed] during the day but nobody was in it."
Despite his panic, Tom was able to call emergency services right away.
He explained: "I got a fright but obviously love getting caught up in the drama.
"I phoned the police of course. Because I've been watching 911 religiously I knew how to be concise and tell them exactly where it was and the postcode, there was no danger and all that.
"So the street is now completely full of fire engines and police and all sorts, so there you go. Mental."
The Glasgow Times previously reported some nearby residents had been evacuated while fire crews work to make the site safe.
An inspection of the site will be carried out by the council later today.
An SFRS spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 12.09am on Saturday, July 12 to reports of a collapsed derelict building on Kenmure Street in Glasgow.
"Operations control mobilised eight appliances to the scene.
"A number of nearby residents have been evacuated as firefighters work to make the area safe.
"There are no reported casualties."

EXCLUSIVE Hollywood star who played Kevin Costner's daughter flashes armpit hair during LA outing... can you guess who?

She's an actress who once played Kevin Costner 's daughter. And on Monday, the 42-year-old star was pictured stepping out in Los Angeles, distinctly showing her armpit hair. The mom-of-two — who, like fellow actor Tom Cruise, belongs to the Church of Scientology — ran errands in a casual look, sporting a sleeveless black top and ripped blue jeans. The Seattle native — who is married to a cyclist — completed the look with white sneakers and a white crossbody bag. She also sported a necklace and gold earrings, and wore her hair styled in a half-updo. Can you guess who she is? That's right! It's Erika Christensen. She's built a career with roles in films like Traffic (2000), Swimfan (2002), The Banger Sisters (2002), The Perfect Score (2004), Flightplan (2005) and more. In Steven Soderbergh's 2000 crime drama Traffic she famously portrayed cocaine user Caroline Wakefield. She won the MTV Movie Award for Breakthrough Female Performance for the role. In 2005, Christensen co-starred in The Upside of Anger as Andy Wolfmeyer, alongside Costner and Joan Allen. She then took on a starring role in the short-lived ABC drama series, Six Degrees, in 2006. From 2010 to 2015, Christensen starred as Julia Braverman-Graham in NBC's family drama series Parenthood. Since 2023, she's been starring as Angie Polaski in ABC's Will Trent. She had guest star roles in television series including Frasier, The Practice, 3rd Rock from the Sun, and Touched by an Angel. The star also made a guest appearance on the Fox sitcom That '70s Show, which reunited her with her Traffic co-star Topher Grace. Christensen's family moved from Seattle to suburban Los Angeles when she was four. Her parents, who became Scientologists in their twenties, raised her within the Church of Scientology. The Seattle native ran errands in a casual look, sporting a sleeveless black top and ripped blue jeans She also sported a necklace and gold earrings, and wore her hair styled in a half-updo Erika opened up about her association with Scientology on an episode of the Armchair Expert podcast in 2018. 'I can justify things in all kinds of different ways, but basically, like, as a Scientologist. And I definitely cannot speak for every Scientologist about anything because everybody has their own beliefs and comes at it from even other religions and all kinds of stuff,' she shared. 'However, I don't believe this is the first time I have lived on this planet and I basically think I've probably done absolutely everything before,' she added. When asked about the criticism the church has faced throughout the years, she said: 'I don't think that it comes from an actual place of, like, your critiques. I don't think it comes from critical thinking.' Christensen got engaged to cyclist Cole Maness in November 2014. They married on September 5, 2015, in Palm Springs, California. The couple lives in Los Feliz, Los Angeles, and has two daughters, Shane and Polly.

Major Emmerdale legend cast in Hollyoaks as dark new villain

Emmerdale legend John Middleton is making a triumphant return to the world of soap, playing a notorious new gangster by the name of Fraser 'Froggy' Black in Hollyoaks. The actor, who is best known for his portrayal of Ashley Thomas in the ITV soap, will be a series regular on the Chester-based serial. If that wasn't enough of a reason to get excited, fans will also be pleased to know that he'll be filming alongside Gemma Bissix and Tamara Wall, who play Clare Devine and Grace Black. Froggy is currently residing in Longmere prison and he has become friends with Tom 'Tax Man' Cunningham (Ellis Hollins), who is currently behind bars as part of an unexpected twist. Tom is now operating as his off-the-books financial advisor and, as viewers know, he is conspiring to make down Clare, who recently returned from the dead. Froggy, meanwhile, appears to be working with Tom in order to accomplish his mission. The revered gangster will soon be released from prison, and he is intent on leaving the world of criminality behind and embarking on a new chapter, spending time with his family – particularly his precious granddaughter Gracie. The character will make his debut in upcoming scenes when he receives information from Tom about his granddaughter's whereabouts – and he's forced to intervene. More Trending The question is: will his grandchildren be welcoming? Discussing his Hollyoaks part, actor John said: 'From Vicar to Villain is quite a leap but that's why I love this part. Brooke Combe makes bold request during TRNSMT set

Having seen her perform at venues like SWG3 in the West of Glasgow and the main stage at TRNSMT in 2023, her voice is as incredibly soulful as ever. You can't help but feel transported somehow. (Image: Images taken by Glasgow Times staff) After playing her first tune on the King Tuts stage at TRNSMT this evening, the Edinburgh-born singer said: "Hello TRNSMT, how are we? I've missed you all. "I'm glad it's f****** cooled down. I put on my Instagram that I was going to swear less, so here we are off to a great start." Performing with a Scotland flag tied in a knot at the top of her mic, Brooke was quicky to tease her guitarist, Danny. She said: "I gave Danny one job which was to tie the Scotland flag on my mic. What is that? "Would you lot not have had it tied at the top and draped down? Like, what is that, eh?" To be fair, it was pretty humorous looking. (Image: Images taken by Glasgow Times staff) The singer then surprised the crowd with a cover of the 1972 song, Summer Breeze, by American soft rock duo Seals and Crofts. Announcing that it was the perfect song for today's weather, Brooke and her band absolutely smashed it. Tonight's show follows on from Brooke supporting Lionel Richie on his UK tour earlier this year. And speaking of gigs, the singer spoke about her upcoming show at Saint Luke's this December. She added: "You know where to find me and I know where to find you, all right?" (Image: Images taken by Glasgow Times staff) Before finishing off her set with Dancing at the Edge of the World, the singer made a bold request. She said: "My time has nearly come to an end, I'm gutted, but I think TRNSMT need to make me headline this stage next year. TRNSMT, you heard me." She continued: "There's something about the King Tut's stage. I prefer us all being boxed in over the scary stage over there (main stage)."
