Nebraska forward Juwan Gary signs with Los Angeles Clippers for NBA Summer League

USA Today03-07-2025
Former Nebraska basketball forward Juwan Gary will play with the Los Angeles Clippers' summer league team. This was announced by HuskerOnline's Robin Washut earlier this week.
Gary averaged 14.4 points per game and 5.1 rebounds per game for Nebraska last season. He started in all 34 games for Nebraska and was able to finish off what was a stellar Huskers career. All told, he recorded 12.5 points to go along with 5.8 rebounds in three seasons at Nebraska.
Now, he is getting a chance to show his talents at an NBA level, with Summer League action officially beginning on Saturday.
Gary's game could translate well to the NBA. His solid defensive skills, as well as his ability to hit the mid-range jumper, could prove valuable to a team looking for additional scoring. His physicality and ability to finish around the rim could also help teams fortify their production inside the paint.

Lakers jersey history No. 3 — Jay Vincent

Through the 2024-25 season, the Los Angeles Lakers have had a total of 506 players suit up for them, going back to their days in Minneapolis. Some were forgettable, some were serviceable, some were good and a select few were flat-out legendary. As the Lakers approach their 80th season of existence (they were founded back in 1946 as the Detroit Gems in the National Basketball League), LeBron Wire is taking a look at each player who has worn their jersey, whether it has been a purple and gold one or the ones they donned back in the Midwest during their early years. We now take a look at Jay Vincent, a forward who once had a brief stint with the Lakers. Vincent grew up in Michigan, and he played four years of college basketball at Michigan State University, where he won a national championship in 1979. While there, the 6-foot-7 forward had the good fortune of being teammates with Magic Johnson. Johnson got drafted by the Lakers in 1979, while Vincent played two more years for the Spartans and led the Big Ten in scoring during both seasons. The Dallas Mavericks took him with the No. 24 overall pick in the 1981 NBA Draft. Vincent averaged 21.4 points and 7.0 rebounds a game as a rookie, and over the next several seasons, he continued to be a reliable scorer, whether he was in the starting lineup or came off the bench. After bouncing around from team to team later in the 1980s, the Lakers signed him as a free agent early in the 1989-90 season. It was something of a transition season for the Lakers, as their dynasty was starting to fade. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar had retired the previous June, and veterans such as Michael Cooper and Mychal Thompson were starting to show their age. Vincent got little playing time with L.A., but he did average 3.8 points in 8.3 minutes a game while appearing in 24 contests. Following that season, Vincent played overseas for a few years. Unfortunately, in 2010, he was indicted on mail fraud charges after a company he owned allegedly scammed roughly 20,000 people out of over $2 million. He ended up getting sentenced to five and a half years in prison. This article originally appeared on LeBron Wire: Lakers jersey history No. 3 — Jay Vincent

Kevin Durant appears to shade former Warriors teammate Steph Curry

Kevin Durant appears to shade former Warriors teammate Steph Curry originally appeared on The Sporting News Former two-time Golden State Warriors Finals MVP Kevin Durant has taken a bit of an indirect dig at former teammate Stephen Curry. After eight frustrating seasons logged playing alongside one of the league's more inefficient, ball-dominant jump shooters in Russell Westbrook on the Oklahoma City Thunder (and nine in Oklahoma City overall), then-free agent Durant decided to sign with a team that had won an NBA-record 73 games just the year before. Armed with Durant, Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green — four Hall of Famers in their absolute primes — the new-look Warriors obliterated the competition for three straight seasons together, appearing in three consecutive NBA Finals and only losing in 2019, when wear and tear yielded devastating injuries for Durant and Thompson against the Toronto Raptors. Durant, a versatile two-way behemoth and one of the best scorers ever, supplanted Curry (himself a two-time league MVP) as the Warriors' clear best player during those runs — again, during Curry's prime. MORE NEWS:Warriors coach Steve Kerr reveals only reason he still has his job The perennially online now-Houston Rockets power forward shed some light on why he is now so loathed by Golden State fans, although his guess may be a bit off the mark. "[Why] do [Warriors] fans hate KD lmao," asked fan @Sc30pion. "Them finals MVPs, they will never recover," Durant replied, seemingly alluding to the fact that he won both Finals MVP awards in the two championships he won alongside Curry and co., in 2017 and '18. Curry also missed out on the honor in 2015. Forward Andre Iguodala took home the award instead. Curry finally won his lone Finals MVP while leading the Warriors to their 2022 title, years after Durant's departure. Ultimately, Durant may be overlooking another big reason fans are frustrated with them: the 6-foot-11 superstar ditched Golden State after just three seasons for the Brooklyn Nets. He then forced his way to the Phoenix Suns in a 2023 trade, and just this summer was flipped to the Rockets. Fans may be envious that the player who left nabbed Finals MVP awards that otherwise would have been Curry's, but of course Durant's otherworldly play helped ensure Golden State would even make three more Finals. Really, wouldn't it make more sense for fans to feel frustrated that a soon-to-be-37-year-old player who's still a top-25 level talent abandoned the team so quickly, when he clearly had so much more high-level basketball left to play? Heat predicted to trade Herro, Wiggins, picks for MVP winner with 7-foot-3 wingspan

Heat predicted to trade Herro, Wiggins, picks for MVP winner with 7-foot-3 wingspan originally appeared on The Sporting News The Miami Heat are in a tough position. They are just a couple of seasons removed from their NBA Finals run, but their team feels stale. The Tyler Herro and Bam Adebayo combo is solid but likely not good enough to win an NBA championship. That's why Heat trade rumors have remained in the news. The Heat are likely looking to land a big star for their future. Giannis Antetokounmpo is the first name that comes to mind. The Giannis trade rumors have connected him to the Heat, and the fit could make a lot of sense. Grant Hughes of Bleacher Report proposed one Heat-Giannis trade that could benefit all sides. "Miami Heat Receive: Giannis Antetokounmpo Milwaukee Bucks Receive: Tyler Herro, Andrew Wiggins, Kel'el Ware, 2027 first-round swap, 2029 first-round swap, 2030 first-round pick, 2031 first-round swap, 2032 first-round pick Why Miami does it: It's hard to imagine Giannis signing up for a South Beach tenure that doesn't involve Bam Adebayo, so part of the reason Miami green-lights this deal is because it gets to keep its perennial All-Defense center out of it. Shot creation would be a major issue with Herro heading out the door, and Ware is a promising young big. But the Heat can figure out how to replace them—and would be happy to have that roster-building problem if it meant Antetokounmpo was in the fold." Follow The Sporting News on WhatsApp The Heat should be willing to trade everyone on their roster for Giannis. This would gut their roster, but would leave a pretty dynamic duo of Giannis and Bam Adebayo still on the roster. If the Bucks are willing to take on veteran players rather than just young prospects, this Heat-Giannis trade package could be somewhat realistic. If there is a Giannis trade request before the season starts, expect the Heat to throw their hat in the ring.
