AFL icon reveals what he said to cop five-year venue ban

Perth Now3 hours ago

Former high-flyer Warwick Capper has revealed what he said to an MCG staff member that resulted in a five-year ban from all AFL venues.
On Tuesday, 7NEWS' Mitch Clearly reported that the ban was a result of his behaviour during last year's grand final between the Sydney Swans and Brisbane Lions — the two teams Capper used to play for.
'Warwick Capper banned from all AFL venues for five years for vile behaviour during last year's grand final,' Cleary said.
'Catering staff reported that he was heavily intoxicated, used derogatory language and intimidated a female staff member.
'MCG employees told the AFL, Capper yelled 'Wazza's in the house' before he was kicked out of the corporate suite and evicted from the ground.'
The restrictions also applies to all events at the MCG, including cricket and concerts.
After the ban became public, Capper revealed he told the caterer, 'You're a nice looking girl. You'd get a job in my brothel'. Capper's manager Tony Marks told News Corp: 'We've known about that outcome (the ban) for a while and somehow eight months to the day it's in the press.'
'No doubt there's a few inappropriate things said in the caricature that is Warwick Capper and playing the class clown, but five years from every AFL venue, including no cricket, concerts … that stinks.'
A larger then life personality, Capper or 'The Wiz' was known for his iconic look of rocking a long blond mullet, short shorts and the bold statement of sporting white or pink boots back when players stuck to black.
While his play spoke for itself, sitting atop the club ladder for goals kicked in five straight years, Capper would also sit atop opponents heads to take spectacular marks — culminating in his 1987 mark of the year win.
Since retiring from playing footy, the high-flyer has maintained media presence with a range of different business ventures that include running for Queensland state politics, 'Cappercinos' coffee van, staring in an adult film and appearances on Celebrity editions of both The Apprentice and Big Brother.
In 2023, the former Swan and Lion also purchased Westminster Secrets, a brothel based in the Melbourne suburb Oakleigh.

State of Origin to make an AFL return? Out west, they're keen

Western Australia is keen to host a State-of-Origin match at Optus Stadium next year, with preliminary discussions underway between the AFL and the state government to reignite the concept. The government is yet to put a formal proposal to the league, however three anonymous sources with knowledge of the situation confirmed that a potential State-of-Origin match has been discussed informally. Optus Stadium in Perth is hosting game two of the NRL State-of-Origin series on Wednesday night, and is keen to attract other big events to Perth, aware of the potential economic impact it could have. The exact format is yet to be determined, but the initial thinking is for a match to be played in February between Western Australia and Victoria. Western Australia hosted the first State-of-Origin match under the modern format in October 1977 with its team playing Victoria at Subiaco. Optus Stadium remains relatively free in February before hosting Asian Cup women's soccer matches in March. AFL chief executive officer Andrew Dillon planned to discuss the issue with the state's deputy premier and treasurer Rita Saffioti when he visited Perth for two matches at Optus Stadium last weekend. Any decision about the proposal would need to be made before season's end to give clubs the chance to plan their 2026 pre-season with certainty. Saffioti, a Fremantle supporter, has been focused on delivering the state budget on Thursday night.
