The conference included six working papers that highlighted the significance of investing in modern technology to address social issues. Dr. Amani Mohammed Al Mehairi, Executive Director of Artificial Intelligence at the Community Development Authority in Dubai, presented the first paper on "Developing Social Monitoring Tools," emphasising the role of AI in improving quality of life, particularly in healthcare for the elderly.
Data Accuracy Importance
Dr. Engineer Kamal Abdul Aziz Mousa, an expert in urban observatories from Saudi Arabia, discussed the role of family observatories in supporting social policies and providing accurate data for decision-makers. He highlighted the importance of measuring performance in family development across various sectors and identifying urgent community issues.
Measuring Social Impact
Dr. Aisha Al Bousmit, an expert in international relations, presented a paper titled "Developing Tools to Measure Social Impact," focusing on the need for effective measures to assess social impact in line with the UAE Vision 2031, which contributes to enhancing social programs and policies.
Future of Social Work
The third paper, titled "The Future of Social Work in Light of Artificial Intelligence," was presented by Ahmed Mohammed Bou Haza'a, an executive and leadership coach from Bahrain. He pointed out the main challenges facing the sector, such as lack of transparency and high costs, and stressed the need for innovative solutions to complex issues like poverty, aging, and disability.
Mental Health Discussion
Dr. Abdullah bin Mabrouk Al Harithi, a senior social worker and addiction specialist, discussed the influence of mental health on family stability in his paper "Mental Health, Family Stability, and Community Cohesion." He emphasized that psychological balance directly enhances community cohesion and highlighted the importance of life skills development and improving the family environment.
Media's Role Highlighted
Ahmed Abdul Karim, Head of the Family Guidance and Reform Department at Dubai Courts, presented the fifth paper titled "The Role of Media in Building Social Awareness and Enhancing Community Cohesion." He asserted that purposeful media plays a significant role in shaping social values and called for the establishment of a digital platform specialized in family awareness.
The sixth paper, titled "The Role of Legislation and Policies in Achieving a More Cohesive Society," was delivered by Dr. Ibrahim Al Shudifat, a judge at the Sharjah Primary Court. He discussed the role of legislation in fostering a cohesive community, emphasizing the need to develop personal status laws to protect families and promote balance among their members.
Closing Remarks
At the close of the first day of the conference, Dr. Abdulrahman bin Abdullah Al Ramezan, a member of the board of directors of the Prince Naif Rehabilitation Centre, affirmed that sincerity is the key driver for achieving success at both national and community levels. He called for utilising all technical and legislative means with a genuine spirit aimed at uplifting society, praising the significant support provided by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, for community work and prioritising human development.

Sharjah hosts conference on sports for people with disabilities
Broad participation and distinguished elite The conference saw the participation of a select group of international experts, decision-makers, researchers, and athletes, alongside representatives of national Paralympic committees from West Asia and across the globe. It aims to enhance the field of sports for people with disabilities by providing practical solutions to key challenges and elevating global performance standards. Opening remarks The event began with the UAE national anthem, followed by a speech from Dr. Abdul Razzaq Bani Rashid, President of the West Asian Paralympic Federation. He highlighted the significance of the conference as a vital scientific and practical platform to promote international cooperation for sustainable and innovative sports programs. Dr Bani Rashid also emphasised the strategic partnerships behind the conference, including collaborations with the International Paralympic Federation, Sharjah Sports Council, and three major universities: University of Sharjah (this year's host), Hashemite University in Jordan (previous host), and the University of Belgrade in Serbia, as part of an MoU signed with the Federation. Sharjah's support for sports and science Dr Tariq bin Khadem, Vice President of the International Paralympic Committee, praised the continuous support of the Emirate of Sharjah—under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah —for education, sports, and scientific research. FOKP raises awareness of kidney disease
The event aimed to raise awareness of kidney disease, educate on prevention methods, and promote healthy behaviours among members of the community from all walks of life. Free examination The event featured health stations, in collaboration with the Representative Office of the Ministry of Health and Prevention in Sharjah and the Emirates Health Services (EHS), offering free blood pressure, blood sugar, and body mass index (BMI) checkups, along with direct medical consultations. The event also included interactive awareness activities targeting all family members, with more than 300 beneficiaries of various age groups. Improving health-related behaviours This event falls within FOKP vision to improve health-related behaviours among all members of society in the United Arab Emirates and its endeavour to empower individuals to adopt healthy lifestyles by providing them with the necessary knowledge, information, and skills. Her Excellency Mona Al Hawai, Chairperson of FOKP, stated that the association is keen to intensify its awareness and community efforts to reach the largest possible number of community members and provide them with the necessary health information to prevent kidney disease through a group of specialised doctors and therapeutic nutrition experts. Attracting more than 300 beneficiaries to this event underscores the importance of FOKP message and reinforces ongoing commitment to supporting community health and empowering people to adopt healthy lifestyles, in cooperation with our strategic partners. More than 630 beneficiaries During the first quarter of 2025, the Association implemented several impactful initiatives and projects targeting more than 630 beneficiaries. Among its most prominent programmes were the "Etmanan" initiative, which provides moral support to kidney patients, and awareness activities in conjunction with World Kidney Day, in addition to the health exhibition held at Al Qasimia University. The association also provided medical support to 19 kidney patients across the UAE, at a cost exceeding AED 600,000, in cooperation with charitable partners, including Dar Al Ber Society. It also implemented 'Etmanan" initiative targeting kidney patients in the UAE hospitals, visiting 77 patients in dialysis units. FOKP affirms its continued efforts to spread health awareness among members of the community and provide therapeutic and community support to kidney patients, in cooperation with its government and private partners. This contributes to building a more health-conscious and responsible society. About the Friends of Kidney Patients Association The Friends of Kidney Patients Association was established by an Emiri Decree in 2007 by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. It is honourary chaired by the wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Sharjah Supreme Council for Family Affairs. It has been a public benefit association registered with the Ministry of Community Empowerment since 2021, with the aim of supporting kidney patients and raising community awareness of kidney disease and prevention. The association implements awareness and health programmes, provides therapeutic and social support to patients, and organises free campaigns and screenings in cooperation with government and private institutions. The association seeks to empower community members to adopt a healthy lifestyle and contribute to improving the quality of life for kidney patients across the country, in line with the Emirate of Sharjah's vision to promote community health.
