Sharjah News shared the news on their official social media alongside a video. It comes with a title in Arabic which translates to 'A project that no one has seen before.' What is Sharjah's Direct Line? Sharjah's Direct Line is a radio program in the UAE where citizens and expats can raise their concerns. And according to English daily newspapers, it has one keen listener – The Ruler of Sharjah. At the moment, there is no start date or a completion date, but we will share the news on as soon as we know more. About Khorfakkan Khorfakkan has become a popular spot for a day trips in the UAE, and the sleepy beach town is transforming into quite the tourist destination. While it may be too humid to truly enjoy a visit at the moment, there's so much to check out, from its sailing, fishing, or kayaking opportunities to visiting Al Suhub Rest House or just getting your Instagram photos at the Khorfakkan amphitheatre and waterfall. If you want to consider a dinner here, The View by Wave is a great pit stop at Rabi Tower, or you can now even make a weekend of it and check-in at Najd Al Meqsar a former traditional mountain village that has been transformed into a beautiful heritage hotel of just seven 'Kareen Houses', each with a bedroom each. Sculpting a niche
By MOHAMMED TAHA Yousef bin Saif bin Salim al Rawahi, a sculptor from the Wilayat of Mudhaibi, in North Sharqiyah, tells the story of Oman – fashioned not only in stone and wood, but also in spirit and imagination. Fuelled by his profound admiration for ancient Omani artefacts, Rawahi has established a name for himself through a body of work in sculpture that marries traditional motifs with contemporary artistry. His latest sculpture, Atabat Al Bab (Doorstep), was recently presented as a gift to Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad al Qasimi, member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, during an official visit to the Sultanate. The piece, which measures 40x40x14cm, draws inspiration from the architectural elements of old Omani homes. 'I wanted to highlight the doorstep,' Rawahi told Muscat Daily. 'It's not merely a physical entrance – it represents the hospitality, peace, and warmth found in every Omani home.' (Atabat-Al-Bab-Doorstep-for-Sheikh-Dr-Sultan-bin-Muhammad-Al-Qasimi) Crafted from a refined combination of marble and wood and inlaid with traditional geometric patterns, the sculpture reflects Al Rawahi's broader mission – to preserve and reinterpret Omani visual heritage for today's audience. Rawahi's artistic path began in 1999 when he enrolled at Sultan Qaboos University to study art education. By the following year, his emerging talent was recognised when he secured second place in a national sculpture competition held as part of the Youth Workshop activities in Muscat. From the outset, he was active in workshops and exhibitions, particularly under the auspices of the Omani Society for Fine Arts. While sculpture remained his primary focus, he also explored oil painting, watercolours, installation work, and graphic art. Returning to sculpture In 2013, Rawahi made a deliberate return to sculpture, his first artistic love. He soon gained recognition, beginning with his participation in the inaugural Arab Youth Sculpture Forum in Muscat in 2015. Since then, his works have been featured in exhibitions across Qatar, Jordan, Egypt, Morocco, Bahrain, and China. He is currently preparing to take part in the Algeria Symposium in 2025. On the local front, he has regularly taken part in the International Sculptors Camp since its second edition. He also played a leading role in organising the Al Khadra International Symposium, which has hosted 39 international sculptors over its three editions. Many of Rawahi's large-scale sculptures are on public display throughout the sultanate – in places such as Sultan Qaboos University, Wadi Al Jizi, Duqm City, the Sohar Fine Arts Museum, and Al Khadra. Among his most notable works is a 3.5m high sculpture situated at Duqm International Airport, which he completed during the 2023 Duqm International Sculpture Forum, organised by Sohar Fine Arts. Smaller works are typically housed in his personal studio or temporarily loaned out for exhibitions. Despite his achievements, Rawahi acknowledges the challenges sculptors face in Oman. 'One of the biggest obstacles is the lack of sculpture-focused events. At present, there are only two youth-led initiatives – the Al Khadra International Symposium and the International Sculptors Camp,' he said. He emphasised the importance of greater support from both, the public and private sectors, particularly in the acquisition of sculptural works. 'These pieces are of high artistic and cultural value – they deserve recognition and placement in public spaces,' he added. Museum in the making Looking ahead, Rawahi's vision is ambitious and clear. 'Sculpture demands passion, resilience, and the ability to express complex ideas through material form,' he said. 'My biggest dream is to see the Al Khadra Museum of Contemporary Sculpture come to fruition. The design has been fully completed, and I am hopeful that implementation will begin soon.' Through his work, Rawahi continues to tell the story of Oman – inspired by its past, steeped in the present, and hopeful of a promising future.

Sharjah readies for APC with broad participation
The session is set to take place from 22nd to 26th July, under the generous patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and with the guidance and direct supervision of His Excellency Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the Arab League. A Unified Arab Spirit to Empower Children The general session will be held at the Sharjah Consultative Council headquarters in Sharjah, amidst broad Arab participation and a united Arab spirit aimed at empowering children in parliamentary practice and instilling values of identity, belonging, and responsibility. Organising Committee Holds Coordination Meeting In this context, the organising committee of the APC held an extensive meeting at the Parliament's headquarters in Sharjah, attended by His Excellency Ayman Othman Al Barout, Secretary-General of the Arab Parliament for the Child (APC), along with all members of the organisational, technical, and media committees. The meeting focused on reviewing final preparations and logistical and technical arrangements to welcome delegations from Arab countries, as well as the official delegation from the Women and Children Department of the Arab League. The goal is to ensure full readiness of sites and teams ahead of this special Arab parliamentary event for children. Detailed Review of Logistics and Programme The meeting featured a detailed review of reception plans at UAE airports, coordination of transportation and accommodation procedures, and inspection of residence and training facilities. It also included a briefing on the general programme, which features training workshops, parliamentary sessions, field visits, and accompanying activities designed to deepen parliamentary awareness and foster cultural and social cohesion among the participating Arab children. Task Distribution and Volunteer Coordination Discussions also covered the distribution of responsibilities among various working teams, the follow-up on committee progress, and coordination mechanisms with volunteers, who will play a pivotal role in organising the events and providing both logistical and administrative support. Emphasis on Strong Media Presence The meeting underlined the importance of media coordination and comprehensive coverage that reflects the high standard of preparations and performance, while conveying the message of the APC in building bridges of communication between generations. Media professionals and journalists will be welcomed to the event, with coordination underway with relevant institutions involved in the session to ensure extensive media coverage that matches the scale of the occasion. Delegations Arriving from 22nd July Delegations will begin arriving in Sharjah from 22nd July, where they will be received at the airport by the working teams and accompanied to their accommodation. The Parliament's General Secretariat has prepared a rich programme, including an intensive training workshop prior to the formal session. The workshop aims to equip the young members with parliamentary speaking skills, proposal drafting, and conscious engagement with the session's theme: 'The Cultural Identity of the Arab Child.' Enriching Visits and Activities The programme also includes distinctive visits, most notably to the 'Rubu' Qarn Foundation for Creating Future Leaders and Innovators,' where the children will take part in interactive activities in the 'Skills Lab.' In addition, the twelfth issue of the 'Young Parliamentarian' magazine will be launched—serving as a platform for children's free expression and documenting their parliamentary journey. A Platform for Empowerment and Expression His Excellency Ayman Othman Al Barout, Secretary-General of the Arab Parliament for the Child (APC), praised the spirit of teamwork and the efforts of all committees and teams during the meeting. He noted that holding the second session in Sharjah is a continuation of a solid Arab journey in supporting childhood and a reflection of Sharjah's vision in preparing an Arab generation capable of dialogue, collaboration, and responsibility—aligned with the broader Arab direction of building the future of children on foundations of empowerment, identity, and knowledge. Sharjah as a Beacon of Creative Empowerment He affirmed that Sharjah—through the vision of its leadership and with the support of the Arab League—represents a vibrant platform for creativity and empowerment, and an institutional hub that embraces Arab children and provides them with an inspiring environment for thought and expression. This comes within a pioneering parliamentary experience that reflects the aspirations of the Arab nation towards building a conscious and promising generation.
