Woman's dismembered body turns up on Gran Canaria beach after texting friend

The body of a woman who went missing later turned up on a beach on the holiday island of Gran Canaria.
A woman's dismembered body was found on a Gran Canaria beach after she texted her friend to say she was going to a party.
A murder investigation has been launched after the body of a 41-year-old Colombian woman was found on the beach of Los Enanos, in the San Andrés area of the Canary Island. Police say her body showed "clear signs" of a violent death, reports the Mirror.

The woman was not seen alive again after sending a message to her friend, although further details of what the message said have not yet been released. The body was found by a person walking along the beach, who reported the horrifying discovery to the authorities.

Police believe the culprit who killed her tried to dismember her body after stabbing her in the neck. Guardia Civil officers have now arrested the owner of a local bar, Arenales café-bar, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in connection with the death. The suspect has been identified only as David S.
He is due to appear in court later today, or tomorrow after being detained at his home in the Las Torres neighbourhood. Detectives from the Guardia Civil's Criminalistics and Homicide Units combed through the Arenales bar in search of biological evidence or other materials.
Officers in full forensic suits were seen entering and exiting the premises, collecting sealed bags of potential evidence. Police say the murder investigation is still live and they have not ruled out making more arrests.
In March, a severed human foot and lower leg washed up on a beach popular with tourists in Mallorca. A holidaymaker made the gruesome find just hours after a woman's body washed up in the same area, near a popular nightclub on the beach in Can Pastilla, near Playa de Palma days earlier.

The man called police on the Balearic Island but by the time officers arrived the foot and leg had washed back out to sea. Divers were immediately sent out on boats and eventually found the foot, as well as a tibia and a fibula, off the island's shore.
It was first suspected that the foot belonged to the dead woman, but investigators have revealed that the severed foot and the leg bones were too large and are more likely to have belonged to a man.
It was the 10th time a body or body parts have washed up on the coasts of the Balearic Islands, which include Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza since the start of 2025. It is believed they are all migrants attempting to cross the ocean by boat.
Spanish Police said it suspects that all victims were migrants that attempted to illegally enter Europe via a small boat or raft from Algeria.
