In a TikTok, Parish reveals how frustrating his experience owning a Dodge Durango has been since trading in his Ford Explorer.
'I would never advise anybody to buy a Dodge Durango because they are the most aggravating pieces of [explicit] I've ever had in my life,' he begins.
About three weeks after owning it, Parish says the Durango has randomly shut down without any warning signs multiple times.
'It runs good and sounds good, part of the time, six times we've been stranded in a parking lot somewhere due to the car not cranking up,' he complains.
The Durango has issues starting back up after parking, Parish says, and has even shut down in the middle of the road.
'I had to call a tow truck one time, and died driving in the middle of the road,' Parish shares.

Parish says not even dealerships have been able to diagnose the issue.
'Every dealership I've taken this car to can't figure out what's wrong with it. There should be no reason whatsoever why I should have to pay to fix my vehicle when the dealership doesn't know what's wrong with it,' he vents.
Parish was advised by Dodge that a dealership needs to diagnose the problem before he can file a claim.
'What am I supposed to do when nobody can figure out what's wrong with the car?' he says.
Parish notes that the dealership diagnosis fee is $160 an hour and a dealership could take up to eight hours just to find nothing.
'Do not buy a Durango or any Dodge car because they will not fix them if there are any issues. I'm tired of paying for a vehicle that doesn't work,' he concludes.
His post has been viewed over 300,000 times as of this writing.
What Recalls Has The 2023 Dodge Durango Had?
The 2023 Dodge Durango has been recalled twice by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration,

NHTSA
, the two recalls are the column shifter coming out of gear and the rear bumper detaching. Both take place while driving.
With the column shifter, the shifter may experience an interference with the shifter boot and come out of gear while driving, which can result in a sudden loss of drive power,

reports.
This
recall
applies for 2023 Dodge Durango Pursuit vehicles equipped with an instrument panel mounted shifter and dealers will replace the instrument panel mounted shifter boot, free of charge.
The bumper detaching recall increases the risk of accidents as the bumper can easily become a road hazard.
Neither of the two recalls apply to Parish's issue.
An Assist from the Crowd
Via email, Parish told Motor1, 'Within the first three weeks of owning it we began experiencing what we believed to be a fuel issue. It died on my wife multiple times in the parking lot and died on me a few times as well.'
'We had it checked by a tech from Bice Chevrolet and it was believed to be a fuel pump. We had the pump replaced with an OEM pump and within a week of having it, it once again began dying on us. On the way home from Nashville, TN it died on us one last time and that was the final straw,' he continued.
According to Parish, suggestions from the commenters helped solve the issue.
'I had all sorts of suggestions, but the primary suggestion was to do a Fuel Pump Relay Bypass because for some reason Stellantis decided to build the relay into the TIPM of the Durango,' he said.
Turns out the fuel pump
was recalled
for 2011-2013 Dodge Durangos.
A fuel pump relay recall took place due to potential silicon contamination in the fuel pump relay, which could lead to a no-start or stall condition. The fuel pump hasn't been recalled since then. Nevertheless, it may have solved Parish's breakdown woes in his 2023 Durango.
'My brother at Parish Garage sat down, pulled the recall information on the 2013, and had to learn the pin out to correctly wire in the bypass on the 2023 from the 2013 instructions. We are going on a week now with no issues since we did the bypass. No check engine light, no fuel issues, no dead Durango,' Parish said.

Edmunds: Five expert tips to make cross-country EV driving easy
The idea of a cross-country road trip in an electric vehicle might seem daunting. After all, it's not hard to envision getting stranded on the side of the road with a depleted battery or being stuck in a parking lot, charging for hours. But there are ways to easily avoid these worst-case scenarios. The experts at Edmunds have plenty of experience driving electric vehicles, and here they share their five best tips on how to make cross-country driving in an EV easy. Use EV route planning applications Minimizing the number of charging stations you visit and your time at them is key to efficient road-tripping in an EV. To accomplish this, use a route planning application. A route planner helps you determine where and when you should stop to charge to reach your destination. The navigation system in most new EVs typically has this functionality built in. You simply enter your destination, and the navigation system automatically calculates where you will need to charge along your route. In our experience, Tesla vehicles have the best route planning capability. EVs that utilize Google Maps as their onboard navigation system have a similar capability. Many of the latest EVs from General Motors, such as the Chevrolet Equinox EV, have Google Maps integration. Alternatively, you can use an EV route planning smartphone app such as A Better Route Planner (ABRP) or PlugShare. We prefer ABRP because it's available as an app or through an internet browser. It also shows more details at each stop, like the expected battery percentage. When using a route planner, stick to Level 3 fast charging stations when driving. Slower Level 2 stations will take hours but are ideal for overnight charging. Use Tesla charging stations The Tesla Supercharger network of fast charging stations is the largest in the country. We recommend using them on a cross-country trip because they are usually very reliable and have more charging stalls per location than most networks. Teslas have access to them and certain non-Tesla EVs are also eligible to use them, but most non-Tesla EVs need an adapter to charge at a Tesla Supercharger. Check with your local service center or search online to determine if your EV is compatible. If you have a non-Tesla EV that has access, change the settings in your route planner to include Tesla stations. If your EV cannot charge at Tesla stations, you'll need to utilize other third-party charging station networks. Some of the largest networks include Electrify America, EVgo and ChargePoint. Have a backup plan, and leave a range cushion When planning a route that does not use Tesla Superchargers, it's best to have a backup charging station for each stop. Charging stations can sometimes be out of order, and in some cases, like during a holiday or on busy highways, there could be long lines. To find the status of a specific charging station, download the app of the company the station belongs to. Make sure to leave yourself enough range to make it to your backup station as well. Stay in hotels with on-site charging stations Staying at hotels with on-site charging stations can save time and money. Hotel charging stations are typically Level 2 stations that can fully charge your battery overnight, allowing you to start your trip immediately instead of charging before you hit the highway. They are usually more affordable than fast charging stations, and in some cases, are free. One way to find hotels with charging stations is by using the PlugShare app. This app contains a database of charging stations, and you can filter it to show stations connected with lodging locations. Use charging stations that have amenities It's fair to expect that each charging stop you make in your EV will take 20-45 minutes. To make the most of that time, charge at stations with a convenience store, retail store or restaurant nearby. That way, you can use the bathroom, grab some stacks or even get a full meal while your vehicle is charging. Many charging stations are located near stores or restaurants, but not all. You can use Google Maps or similar smartphone apps to find out what's within walking distance of the charging stations you plan on using. You can change the stations your route planner recommends as long as they aren't too far away. Edmunds says Planning a cross-country trip in an EV takes extra effort, but doing it properly can make the journey nearly as smooth as in a gas-powered car. Tesla's quarterly results: what are investors and fans looking for?
By Akash Sriram and Abhirup Roy (Reuters) -Tesla is likely to post its biggest drop in quarterly revenue in more than a decade on Wednesday, as the EV maker grapples with issues including increased competition, a lack of new models and consumer backlash against CEO Elon Musk. Here are the top five issues investors, analysts and Tesla fans are watching closely. Switch Auto Insurance and Save Today! Musk formed a new U.S. political party, the America Party, earlier this month, after a public feud with President Donald Trump over a tax-cut and spending bill. Three months ago, when he was still allied with Trump, Musk said he was pulling back from working in the president's administration. Founding the party has rekindled worries that Musk will be distracted from business as it faces mounting competition, especially in its key China market, and as he tries to turn Tesla into a robotics and AI company. Musk said on Sunday that he was back to working seven days a week and sleeping in the office when his small children were away. HOW FAST CAN ROBOTAXI SERVICES EXPAND? Last month, Tesla launched a small trial of its self-driving taxi service in Austin, Texas, with roughly a dozen of its Model Y SUVs and several restrictions, including safety supervisors in front passenger seats. Tesla enthusiasts lauded the efforts, although videos showed some driving mistakes. Musk has said the service would reach the San Francisco Bay Area "in a month or two," depending on regulatory approvals, but Tesla has not applied for necessary permits to test or deploy driverless vehicles, regulators in California told Reuters this month. Investors will want to know how the expansion can go forward. WHERE IS THE CHEAPER TESLA? When Musk shifted his focus to robotaxis, he cancelled plans to build a new, cheaper EV platform. Tesla had promised to start producing the first of more affordable EV models by the end of June, but the company has not yet confirmed if it has met that target. Investors are keen for an update on those plans. Sources had told Reuters in April that a stripped-down version of the Model Y was likely to be delayed by months. Analysts have already cut their 2025 delivery estimate for the cheaper car to below 50,000 vehicles, from 63,500 at the start of the year, according to eight of them polled by Visible Alpha. CAN THE MODEL Y REFRESH BOOST SALES? Tesla rolled out a refreshed version of the Model Y this year, a move investors hoped would recharge flagging sales. Deliveries of the SUV and its Model 3 compact sedan - Tesla's volume drivers - plunged in the second quarter. While Tesla blamed a January production pause to retool plants, some analysts have said the re-styling - including new front and rear light bars and a touchscreen for back-seat passengers - was not enough to boost demand. Investors will want to know Musk's view of the rollout to date and going forward. With total deliveries falling 13.5% to 384,122 units in the second quarter, the second straight quarterly decline, revenue is expected to fall 11.2% year-on-year, despite aggressive discounting and low-cost financing. HOW SOON WILL REGULATORY CREDITS DWINDLE? Sales of regulatory credits - a silent profit engine for Tesla - are set to dry up after recent legislation. Tesla earned $2.8 billion in 2024 from such credits sold to legacy automakers to help them comply with emissions rules. Without them, the company would have reported a loss in the first quarter of this year. Analysts expect pressure on Tesla and they are already resetting their revenue estimates for the year.

Tesla's new supercharging station shows that the branded diner is having a moment
BY Tesla's new Supercharger station, which opened on July 21, is nothing like your average stop for gas. The station doubles as a Tesla-branded retro-futuristic diner—and it looks like an '80s sci-fi movie set crashed in the middle of downtown Los Angeles. The Tesla Diner, which boasts 80 v4 Supercharger stalls alongside a full menu of greasy finger foods, feels like a jarringly fanciful detour for the brand amidst a year that's been anything but upbeat. As Elon Musk's prolonged feud with President Donald Trump rages on, Tesla has suffered a constant rollercoaster of stock price slumps, protests, and poor delivery numbers (overall, the number of cars Tesla delivered in April, May, and June this year was down 13% from the year before). Investors are currently waiting with bated breath for Tesla's second-quarter earnings report, which is due today. For Tesla, the new diner has actually been at least seven years in the making (Elon Musk first teased the concept in 2018). And, while it may seem like a concept that came out of the blue, it shows that the branded diner is officially having a moment. Over the past few years, companies across a diverse range of brand categories have turned to the pop-up diner format as a kind of set piece to offer customers an immersive brand experience. Here are a few. The branded diner phenomenon: part event, part signifier As companies clamor for visibility in an increasingly crowded advertising environment, the 'lifestyle brand' has increasingly become a buzzword that companies aspire to—and the branded diner can be understood as a physical embodiment of that trend. Lifestyle branding expands a consumer's brand association beyond a specific core product to a way of living, based on a brand's values. Brands might achieve this through additional elements like merch (see Erewhon's $335 monochromatic sweatsuit), events and activations (see Sweetgreen's Sweetlife music festival), and celebrity-backed launches (see DJ Mustard's recent collab with Heinz), and even in-house coffee shops. Now, several companies have found that the diner pop-up is the perfect venue to act as a brand signifier, because it puts the brand's values and aesthetics on a public stage. These kinds of activations, which don't necessarily push a particular product, also build brand affinity, or positive brand association, with consumers. And that's something Tesla is in dire need of. How Chanel, Jellycat, and Skims put diners on the menu In August 2023, Chanel was one of the first brands to debut a branded diner, bringing the fashion house's distinct flavor of 'old money' luxury to a '50s-esque pop-up in New York City decked out in pastel greens and pinks. That same fall, a distinctly different brand—Jellycat, the purveyor of overpriced-yet-unavoidable stuffed animals—also brought a branded diner to NYC, centered around the whimsical, innocent world of its fake food plushies. The experience has since taken off to such an extent that Jellycat has opened new locations in London, Paris, and Shanghai, as well as launching an updated 'breakfast' menu at the NYC flagship. Other brands have similarly turned their diners into an exclusive experience, including Mattel's Barbie, which served Barbie-inspired food and drinks at two Malibu Barbie Cafe pop-ups in NYC and Chicago; Cheez-It, which served up childhood nostalgia alongside Cheez-It milkshakes at its '70s-inspired joint; and Skims, which took over West Hollywood's Mel's Drive-In with a specially curated menu. The branded diner formula seems to follow a few simple rules: Creating a space that feels like another dimension, dropping hints at obscure brand lore, and giving visitors access to products they can't find anywhere else. Each step is in service of driving press and publicity, which, in turn, help to boost brand reputation and sales. The Tesla Diner serves up cyborg fare and futuristic vibes Tesla's diner follows that playbook, turning the EV maker's recognizably futuristic branding into an experience that customers can literally see, touch, and eat. Outside, the building's curved silver facade is accented with a round entryway and elliptical windows, and inside, it's decked out with booth seating fit for a spacecraft. Visitors can grab a burger in a box shaped like a Cybertruck, watch movie clips at a giant drive-in, and munch on popcorn served by an Optimus robot. One subtle interior design detail you might miss is a low-contrast wall decal that describes the Tesla Mission as 'accelerating the world's transition to sustainable energy.' The mission-as-mural is notable, considering Musk's recent spat with Trump on the termination of EV tax credits as part of the administration's budget reconciliation bill, which passed in July. The bill repealed tax credits for things like clean energy, solar panels, and heat pumps, and terminated the popular EV credit, which will now end after September 30 of this year. A Tesla brand activation first The diner is the first brand activation of its kind for Tesla, which has historically relied on non-traditional advertising like word-of-mouth endorsements and Twitter promotion from Musk himself. Given that Musk has arguably lost a fair chunk of his credibility with buyers and investors this year, it's probably a smart move for the brand to turn its attention toward more conventional channels for the time being. The otherworldly Tesla Diner experience certainly isn't the future of EV charging stations, given that the amount of investment and construction time required would make rapid roll-out impossible. However, it might be a way to drum up some more positive brand sentiment during a decidedly gloomy year. The Tesla Diner isn't going to un-screw the brand (as Fast Company so succinctly put it early this month) either—but we have to admit, this might be the best thing it's done all year.
