The man contacted police after noticing an unusual spike in his electricity bill and requested that they check on his property in South Lakeland.
At the scene, deputies said they found Brindy Matos, 39, living in a shed on the vacant property.

Another suspect fled the scene upon deputies' arrival. He was later identified as Matos' boyfriend, Anthony Maddox, Jr., 31.

Hegseth orders 3rd border buffer zone along U.S.-Mexico border

The Pentagon has ordered the creation of a third National Defense Area along the U.S.-Mexico border. File Photo by Pat Benic/UPI | License Photo June 26 (UPI) -- Amid the Trump administration's crackdown on immigration, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has ordered the establishment of another buffer zone along the U.S.-Mexico border where the military can apprehend non-citizens. The National Defense Area, announced Wednesday, will cover about 250 miles of the Rio Grande River in Texas' Cameron and Hidalgo Counties. According to a statement from the U.S. Air Force, Hegseth issued the directed on June 18. "This designation marks the latest in a series of NDAs established to strengthen interagency coordination and bolster security operations along the U.S. southern border," the Air Force said. With the move, three NDAs have been established along the U.S.-Mexico border under President Donald Trump's April 11 memorandum directing the U.S. military to seal the southern border to repel an alleged "invasion" of immigrants trying to enter the country. Border security was a key focus of Trump's re-election campaign, which included him spouting derogatory rhetoric and misinformation about migrants. Since returning to the White House in January, Trump has led a crackdown on immigration. In NDAs, U.S. military personnel can temporarily detain alleged trespassers and then transfer them to appropriate law enforcement. So far, the Trump administration has erected three NDAs including the one announced Wednesday. The first NDA was established in New Mexico on April 21 and spans some 170 miles along the state's border. The second one was erected on May 1 in West Texas, covering about 63 miles between El Paso and Fort Hancock. The first trial conviction for trespassing in an NDA occurred earlier this month.

Cops arrested Mario Bernal, 23, on Sunday after he allegedly made the threats to campers attending Camp Cho-Yeh in Livingston, according to Fox 26. A witness reported the threats to cops. Bernal, of Vernal, Utah, allegedly told the witness he would 'clock himself out' if the Christian camp fired him while threatening to carry out an attack inspired by the deadly 1999 school shooting that left 12 students and one teacher dead, the outlet reported. And if the camp 'came at him legally,' Bernal allegedly said he would 'not go down by himself.' 3 Mugshot of Mario Bernal, 23, who allegedly made the threats to campers at Camp Cho-Yeh in Livingston, Texas. Teens climb cliffs near Bible camp, then one falls hundreds of feet, WA cops say

A teen fell hundreds of feet after climbing cliffs with two other boys near a Bible camp in Washington, police said. The boys called 911 on June 21 from a mountainside west of Riverview Bible Camp, near Cusick, the Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife Police said in a Facebook post. They were about a mile from the camp when one teen fell hundreds of feet, police said in the June 23 post. The other two boys climbed down the cliff and found him unconscious and bleeding, police said. Authorities said they couldn't get an exact location, but they rushed to find the injured teen. 'The teens were wet, cold, and worried their friend would not make it if no one could find them soon,' police said. Officers and medical responders hiked the area for about an hour before finding the boys, police said. The injured boy appeared to have severe head trauma and a broken arm, police said. Police said he was 'extremely cold and experiencing early stages of shock and hypothermia.' An officer had to contact the U.S. Air Force because of the remote and steep area that a local medevac helicopter could not reach, police said. He was hoisted by the Air Force and taken by helicopter to an ambulance at the bottom of the mountain, police said. The boy's father said he had 'multiple fractures and broken bones.' Cusick is about a 55-mile drive north from Spokane.
