Ex Hibs player sues club over 'horrific' injury suffered after tackle by manager
Ex Hibs star Jake Doyle-Hayes has started legal proceedings against his former club over an injury sustained following a tackle by then manager Lee Johnson.
The Irishman is now playing for Sligo Rovers but is suing the Edinburgh club with lawyers acting on the his behalf accusing Johnson of making 'incompetent and incoherent decisions".
Doyle-Hayes suffered an ankle injury in 2022 in a clash on the Hibs training ground with former boss Johnson, leaving him requiring surgery.
And it's understood the player, who left Hibs by mutual consent in January 2025, has taken legal action.
The case at the Court of Session was called on Wednesday, with Doyle-Hayes represented by Thompsons Scotland LLP.
The legal firm say the Irish footballer's career has been 'greatly restricted' by the injuries suffered.
Joel Shaw, partner with Thompsons Solicitors: 'Our client, Jake Doyle-Hayes suffered horrific injuries from a tackle made by the then manager of Hibernian Football Club, Lee Johnson.
'The impact of this has greatly restricted his career."

They looked a much more serious threat at the start of last campaign though, seeming to be Falkirk's biggest challengers for the title. Brown's men fell away though and eventually finished third, before being dramatically knocked out of the play-offs by Partick Thistle. The former Celtic captain will be looking to go the extra mile and seal the Honest Men's return to the top flight after 47 years away, and will hope a signing from his old team's youth setup will put them closer. That's as Ayr have signed Kyle Ure from Celts on a season-long loan, with Brown naming him on the bench already for today's Premier Sports Cup clash with St Mirren. Ure is yet to feature competitively for the Celtic first team, but captained the under-18s to a famous 6-5 win over Rangers in the 2023 Scottish Youth Cup final. 4 Kyle Ure was named on the bench for Ayr against St Mirren Credit: Alamy He's since been promoted to the B team and earned a new two-year deal at Parkhead back in February. And he earned rave reviews for his display in the Hoops' friendly victory over Queen's Park last month, even being mistaken by some supporters for club captain Callum McGregor. The 19-year-old is well-regarded by Celts, and by Brown's former manager and now divisional rival Neil Lennon. The Dunfermline boss said back when Ure penned his deal: "Kyle Ure has played really well in the UEFA Youth League and it's great to see him signing an extension with Celtic, he is very highly thought of. Shock scenes as Celtic and Ajax fans clash during Como Cup friendly tournament in Italy "There will no doubt be suitors looking on, but it's great that he has pledged his future to the club because there are some great role models in the building including Callum McGregor who he can look up to. "Everyone at Celtic is delighted to have him on board and now is the time to develop him into a first team player where he can really mature. "I think the club can get the best out of him and with his leadership qualities, why can't he even be a future captain." Eredivisie side expect Rangers offer for winger, Celtic latest
And the Dutch club are waiting to discover whether Celtic return for Jakob Breum after turning down three approaches for the Danish wide man from the SPFL champions. Sheffield United have been heavily linked with a move for Antman, after the 23-year-old provided 15 assists in 32 league games during his first season in the Eredivisie. Herald Sport understands, however, that Rangers have now taken a firm interest in the right sided attacker. Read more: Signed last summer from Nordsjaelland, Go Ahead Eagles are looking for a fee in excess of £5million for one of the break out stars of Dutch football and have been told to prepare for an offer from Ibrox by intermediaries. Russell Martin has already confirmed an interest in Crystal Palace winger Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, a player he tried to sign during his time at Southampton. Rangers have already submitted a loan offer with an obligation to buy for £10million. Go Ahead, meanwhile, have already rejected a number of financial proposals from Celtic for Danish under-21 international Breum. In the market for wide players after selling Nicholas Kuhn to Como for £17m and losing the services of the injured Jota until early next year, the Parkhead club opened with £1.5million last month. Despite Celtic upping their original proposal to £1.75million plus add-ons, then putting £3million on the table, the Dutch Cup holders have placed a price tag of Euros 7.5million (£6.5million) on a player signed from Danish club Odense in the summer of 2023. PSV placed Breum high on their shortlist of summer signings before deciding to pay £15million for AZ's Ruben van Bommel instead. Claiming their valuation is fair and realistic senior figures inside Go Ahead maintain that the player will not be allowed to leave for a knockdown fee. Celtic also have a long-term interest in Antwerp's Belgian winger Michel-Ange Balikwisha.
