Biometric passport for the DR Congo - implemented with DERMALOG as system partner
HAMBURG, Germany and KINSHASA, DRC, June 5, 2025 /CNW/ -- With the launch of passport production on June 5, 2025, Congolese citizens now receive a secure travel document that meets International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards and integrates advanced anti-counterfeiting features, including a contactless RFID chip, a polycarbonate data page, and security elements such as holograms, UV printing, and watermarks.
The Congolese government relies on a complete solution from DERMALOG for its passport system - from online pre-registration to biometric enrollment and central printing of the passports. A total of 100 stations have been installed for biometric capture: 50 stationary and mobile stations in the country and 50 mobile units in the diplomatic missions of the DR Congo. All stations are equipped with fingerprint and iris scanners, facial recognition cameras, document scanners and signature pads. Centralized production allows for up to 2,400 passports to be issued daily.
"The launch of the new passport is not a spur-of-the-moment decision, but a proactive response to changing international standards […] guaranteeing the free movement of our citizens, while offering them maximum security for their personal data," said Foreign Minister Thérèse Kayikwamba Wagner (May 27, 2025, diplomatie.gouv.cd).
"We are proud to have accompanied this project as a partner. Our solution supports the country's digital sovereignty and offers maximum security and efficiency," explained Günther Mull, CEO of DERMALOG.
With the new passport, the DR Congo is strengthening identity protection for its citizens and laying the foundation for modern, digital government services - made possible by the complete solution from DERMALOG, the biometrics expert and system supplier.

Official opening of a new supportive housing project for adults with intellectual disabilities
MERCIER, QC, Aug. 15, 2025 /CNW/ - Lionel Carmant, Quebec Minister Responsible for Social Services, highlighted today, as part of his tour of Montérégie-Ouest, the official opening of Chez Nous Solidaire, an innovative 19-unit project that will provide supportive housing adapted to the needs of people living with a mild to moderate intellectual disability, with or without autism spectrum disorder. This new built-to-measure resource aims to offer its clientele a stable, secure and permanent living environment, with the goal of increasing their independence and social inclusion. The project is made up of individual apartments and will therefore offer occupants an environment conducive to their development and to sustaining their acquired skills. Equitable and personalized support services will also be available, and subsidized rent will help to increase occupants' housing stability. The Quebec government is injecting a total of nearly $4.2 million, including more than $1.8 million from the Société d'habitation du Québec, which is also backing the mortgage taken out by the organization. In total, the Ministry of Health and Social Services is providing recurring annual funding of $726,000. The new recurring budget of $300,000 announced complements the $150,000 that was granted in 2019 by the MSSS. In addition, $276,000 allocated by the CISSSMO covers the full amount required to operate the clinical services. For the current year, until March 31, 2026, the $526,000 in funding will cover the first six months of the project's start-up. These amounts will enable the organization to provide support, guidance, and social integration activities for tenants in collaboration with professionals from the Centre intégré de santé et de services sociaux de la Montérégie-Ouest. The Government of Canada is contributing nearly $3.7 million to the project through the Second Canada-Quebec Agreement on the Rapid Housing Initiative. Greater Sudbury Advances Growth and Investment in First Half of 2025 Français
SUDBURY, ON, Aug. 15, 2025 /CNW/ - The first half of 2025 was a period of dynamic growth and strategic investment for Greater Sudbury. With a population estimate from Statistics Canada nearing 192,000 in the Greater Sudbury census metropolitan area, the City has made significant strides in talent attraction, health care expansion and economic development. The launch of two new immigration pilot programs — the Rural Community Immigration Pilot (RCIP) and the Francophone Community Immigration Pilot (FCIP) — along with the targeted Move to Sudbury campaign to attract skilled workers has generated strong interest. Government of Canada Provides Early Decision on York Factory First Nation Ten Shilling Aerodrome Project in Manitoba
OTTAWA, ON, Aug. 15, 2025 /CNW/ - The Impact Assessment Agency of Canada (IAAC) assessed the York Factory First Nation Ten Shilling Aerodrome Project, a new aerodrome along Ten Shilling Creek in Manitoba, and determined that its potential adverse effects within federal jurisdiction would be limited or addressed through other means. The proponent, York Factory First Nation, may now move forward with obtaining any necessary authorizations and permits. To arrive at its section 16 decision under the Impact Assessment Act, IAAC engaged other jurisdictions, federal experts, stakeholders, the public, and Indigenous Peoples to review the project description and identify potential impacts to federal jurisdiction and frameworks to address these potential impacts. IAAC is of the view that the potential adverse effects within federal jurisdiction would be limited or addressed through existing federal and provincial laws and regulations. These include but are not limited to the Fisheries Act, Migratory Birds Convention Act, 1994, and Manitoba's Heritage Resources Act, and Water Rights Act. As a result, a comprehensive impact assessment is not required. The documents and list of factors considered can be found in IAAC's Notice of Early Decision with Reasons. York Factory First Nation is proposing to construct and operate a new aerodrome along Ten Shilling Creek, approximately four kilometres south of York Factory settlement and National Historic Site, in northeastern Manitoba. As proposed, the project would include a single, private 1,530-metre-long airplane runway that would be used for emergency services, improve access to York Factory First Nation's traditional territory, and support tourism and future development in the local area. The review process from start to finish took 59 days to complete. IAAC facilitates the sustainable development of major projects subject to the Impact Assessment Act through open and efficient assessments. These assessments identify ways to ensure the environment and Indigenous Rights are protected as projects get built. To support needed investment in major projects, we work closely with other jurisdictions to achieve the goal of "one project, one review". Canada is committed to working together with the Province of Manitoba to improve the efficiency of assessments of major projects. Decisions like these ensure that Canada's impact assessment process is efficient by determining at an early stage whether a comprehensive impact assessment is required or not.
