Mark Hamill Rules Out Doing More ‘Star Wars'
Don't expect to see Luke Skywalker in any of the upcoming films Lucasfilm has planned — even as a spectral Force Ghost.
The 73-year-old actor, who has appeared in five live-action Star Wars films and made de-aged cameos in The Mandalorian TV series, suggested that Skywalker's run is over — and should be over.

'I am so grateful to [creator George Lucas] for letting me be a part of that back in the day, the humble days when George called Star Wars 'the most expensive low-budget movie ever made,'' said Hamill during an interview with ComicBook.com to promote his new film, the Stephen King adaptation The Life of Chuck. 'We never expected it to become a permanent franchise and a part of pop culture like that. But my deal is, I had my time. I'm appreciative of that. But I really think they should focus on the future and all the new characters.
'And by the way,' he added, 'when I disappeared in [The Last Jedi], I left my robes behind. And there's no way I'm gonna appear as a naked Force ghost.'
The comments come despite Lucasfilm developing a film that would be an obvious project for Skywalker to appear in — a Rise of Skywalker follow-up focused on Daisy Ridley's Rey, who was Skywalker's mentee in the sequel trilogy. The film from director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy picks up roughly 15 years after the events in Skywalker and follows Rey's efforts to build a new Jedi order. The New Order film is only in development, however, along with many other titles.
Lucasfilm chief Kathleen Kennedy previously teased the film, saying, 'Well, we're 15 years out from Rise of Skywalker, so we're post-war, post-First Order, and the Jedi are in disarray. And, there's a lot of discussion around, 'Who are the Jedi? What are they doing? What's the state of the galaxy?' And, [Rey]'s attempting to rebuild the Jedi Order, based on the books, based on what she promised Luke, so that's where we're going.'
The next confirmed Star Wars title is The Mandalorian & Grogu coming May 22, 2026, followed a year later by Star Wars: Starfighter from Shawn Levy and starring Ryan Gosling.
Regarding Hamill's joking comment about leaving his robes behind, he and the late Carrie Fisher appeared as force ghosts at the end of Rise of Skywalker, and he indeed was robed. And hardcore Star Wars fans will counter that in 1977's A New Hope, when Darth Vader killed Obi-Wan Kenobi, his robes were also left behind — but Alec Guinness still appeared in his robes when he showed up as a Force Ghost in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.
Hamill's career has been busier than ever the last few years. The Life of Chuck is a sci-fi adaptation of a Stephen King story from Hamill's The Fall of the House of Usher filmmaker Mike Flanagan this month. He also stars in another King adaptation, the long-awaited adaptation of the author's cult favorite novel The Long Walk, which is out in September.

Ryan Gosling's ‘Star Wars: Starfighter': Everything to know as Mia Goth takes on the Mikey Madison role
This is as close as we're going to get a Barbie-MaXXXine crossover. Mia Goth is joining the new Ryan Gosling-powered Star Wars installment, Starfighter, taking over the role originally offered Anora Oscar winner Mikey Madison. The casting coup is the latest scrap of news about the anticipated project, which will be helmed by Shawn Levy and which had its coming-out party at Star Wars Celebration in April 2025. Here's everything we know so far about Star Wars: Starfighter. Levy says that Starfighter will cover new territory in franchise storytelling and won't feature any of the major characters from prior releases. 'This is a standalone. It's not a prequel, not sequel. It's a new adventure. It's set in a period of time that we haven't seen explored yet,' the filmmaker said. 'The reality is that this script is just so good. It has such a great story with great and original characters,' said Gosling. 'It's filled with so much heart and adventure, and there just really is not a more perfect filmmaker for this particular story than Shawn.' Starfighter the movie is not related to the 2001 video game of the same name from LucasArts that was set on the planet of Naboo during the time period of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. Starfighter takes place about five years after the events of the last Star Wars feature, 2019's Rise of Skywalker. READ: Levy, a four-time Emmy nominee for Stranger Things and whose credits also include Deadpool & Wolverine, Free Guy and Night at the Museum, has been developing the project for the past three years with screenwriter Jonathan Tropper. The two previously collaborated on The Adam Project and This Is Where I Leave You. Gosling, a three-time Oscar nominee, was formally introduced as the lead at Star Wars Celebration after weeks of speculation. "That rumor is true," Levy said as he brought out his star to the stage to massive cheers. "The rumors are true." According to Variety, Mikey Madison was initially offered the female lead one of the baddies hunting down Gosling and his young sidekick. Madion reportedly turned down the role due to a pay dispute. ‘Ballerina' Losing Opening Weekend Box Office Match To ‘Lilo & Stitch'
Ana de Armas in "From the World of John Wick: Ballerina." Ana de Armas and Keanu Reeves' From the World of John Wick: Ballerina is falling short in its quest to take the No. 1 spot from Lilo & Stitch at the weekend box office. Lilo & Stitch, of course, had a blockbuster opening over the four-day Memorial Day weekend box office from May 23-26 and fended off Karate Kid: Legends to hold on to its box office crown in its second-weekend frame from May 30-June 1. This weekend, Disney's live-action adaptation of the 2002 animated classic is continuing its domestic box office dominance against Ballerina, which is a prequel movie set during the events of 2019's John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum. Deadline is projecting that Lilo & Stitch is on track to earn $32 million to $34 million from 4,185 theaters through Sunday, while forecasting a $26 million to $30 million No. 2 debut for Ballerina, which is opening in 3,409 venues. Deadline's estimate for Ballerina falls within the range of a mid-week projection by Variety, which pegged a $28 million to $30 million opening frame, but comes up short of Box Office Pro's opening weekend forecast of $32 million to $40 million. Ballerina had a $90 million production budget with a prints and advertising budget of $45 million, Deadline reported. Although the character of John Wick is part of the film's formal title, Keanu Reeves plays a supporting role in Ballerina, in which Ian McShane, Anjelica Huston and the late Lance Reddick all reprise their roles from the John Wick franchise. Rated R, Ballerina also stars Gabriel Byrne, Catalina Sandino Moreno and Norman Reedus. Ana de Armas and Keanu Reeves in "From the World of John Wick: Ballerina." While Ballerina is falling short of pre-release forecasts, its projected take of $26 million to $30 million is enough to create a healthy separation from Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. Tom Cruise's latest— and potentially last — mission as Ethan Hunt is projected by Deadline to earn $14 million from 3,496 North American theaters through Sunday for a No. 3 finish this weekend after spending two weekends at No. 2. The Hollywood trade publication also projects a $9 million take for Karate Kid: Legends from 3,859 theaters domestically for the No. 4 spot and a $5.7 million take for The Phoenician Scheme from 1,678 venues for a fifth place finish. The latest comedy from director Wes Anderson, The Phoenician Scheme staged its world premiere at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival in the South of France in May and opened in limited release in six theaters on May 30. Note: This box office report will be updated throughout the weekend as new domestic and international numbers become available. The final numbers for this weekend's box office will come out on Monday.
