India to deploy 40 commandos to protect its embassy in Libya
General Director of India's Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) commandos said 'Personnel from the CRPF will be assigned to secure the Indian embassy in Tripoli, in a mission similar to the one previously carried out in Baghdad.'
'Around 40 personnel will take on the responsibility in Tripoli once the necessary approvals are obtained from the Ministry of External Affairs.' He added.
The Indian Embassy in Libya was reopened in July of last year after nearly five years of closure due to the deteriorating security situation in the North African country.
Officials familiar with the matter told the agency that 'the CRPF had previously guarded the Indian embassy in Libya for around four to five years, but it was shut down amid escalating chaos and merged with the Indian embassy in neighboring Tunisia.' Tags: India Indian embassy
