First Flight Of Hajj Pilgrims From J&K To Leave For Saudi Arabia Today

India.com04-05-2025
The first batch of this year's Hajj pilgrims left the Hajj house on Sunday for the Srinagar international airport to board the special flight for Saudi Arabia.
This year, over 3600 pilgrims will leave Jammu and Kashmir to perform the holiest Muslim pilgrimage of Hajj.
The first batch of 178 pilgrims, comprising 96 men and 82 women, reached the Hajj House in the Bemina area of Srinagar city in the morning.
The pilgrims were asked to reach the Hajj House between 5 a.m. to 5.30 a.m. for final preparations and departure to the airport.
Authorities have kept special buses to carry the pilgrims to the airport, but no relative or friend of the pilgrims will be allowed to accompany them to the airport.
Shujaat Ahmad Qureshi, chief executive officer of the J&K Hajj committee, said the first flight carrying pilgrims will leave from the Srinagar International Airport later in the day.
Senior officers, including the divisional commissioner (Kashmir), V.K. Bidhuri, visited the Hajj House on Saturday to take stock of the final arrangements being made for the pilgrims.
All the Hajj pilgrims from the union territory, including those from the Jammu division, will have to report at the Hajj House in Srinagar for their onward journey to Saudi Arabia.
Emotional scenes were witnessed at the Hajj House as families bade farewell to their members leaving on the pilgrimage.
It was a mix of joy and sorrow as relatives expressed joy for their family members leaving to perform the pilgrimage and some sadness for the separation, as the two-way journey takes over a month on average.
In contrast to the last many years during which lots were drawn to fill the seats, for the last three years, the number of applicants for the pilgrimage has been less than the allotted seats.
This has made undertaking the journey easy for those who can afford it.

The water sports national festival also features demonstration events like water skiing, dragon boat and Shikara race. The three-day event, being organised by J&K Sports Council in collaboration with the Union ministry of youth affairs and sports and Sports Authority of India (SAI), will begin on Thursday. 'We warmly invite everyone to witness thrilling competitions, youthful energy, and the rise of future champions,' said Nuzhat Gul, secretary, J&K Sports Council. Officials said that lieutenant governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday met the mascot of Khelo India Water Sports Festival 2025. 'The event is conceived as a celebration of J&K's culture and ecology. The Mascot of the Khelo India Water Sports Festival is inspired by the Himalayan Kingfisher, which reflects adventure, energy and profound connection to nature,' an official said. The government said that the sporting event marks a proud moment for J&K, bringing national sports attention to Dal Lake and its athletes. 'The event will present a unique opportunity to showcase Kashmir's diverse charm on a national platform and transform into a grand celebration of local tourism, handicrafts, art and culture,' an official statement said. The lake presents an enchanting landscape as it is dotted by colourful Shikaras and majestic houseboats - called 'palaces on water'- while also being surrounded Mughal Gardens and overlooked by Zabarwan mountain range. An elaborate opening ceremony is set to feature a drone light show, traditional folk dances, celebrity performances and stalls showcasing local street cuisine, art, culture and Self-Help Group (SHG) products. The participants are as much enthused as the officials. 'This is happening for the first time in J&K. This gives a major boost to the youth here involved in sports. Our youth, which have been training for the past two years, will compete for the national level events. This is our good luck,' said Sayeema, a water sports coach. Last week, minister for youth services and sports, Satish Sharma and Zadibal MLA Tanvir Sadiq released the logo, mascot, anthem, jingle and jerseys for the athletes and support staff, volunteers and officials of the first-ever Khelo India Water Sports Festival 2025. 'The athletes and people who would participate in the Khelo India Water Sports Festival would return as the brand ambassadors of J&K. The hosting of the first-ever Khelo India Water Sports Festival will go a long way in promoting not just sports but also tourism in J&K,' Sharma said. The MLA Tanvir Sadiq said that the Khelo India Winter Sports Games have already crowned Gulmarg as India's winter sports capital. 'With the launch of the Khelo India Water Sports Festival on Dal Lake, we are set to redefine the region's sports landscape and establish it as a national water sports hub,' Sadiq said.

The inside and underground chambers of the world-famous Taj Mahal in Agra have long remained off-limits to the public, which have continued to spark curiosity and speculation amongst enthusiasts for decades. Despite being one of the most visited monuments in the world, a large part of what lies within this iconic Mughal structure is still a mystery. Now, a recently surfaced video claims to offer a glimpse inside the legendary architectural masterpiece. The now-viral video, shared by an Instagram page "@dinbhar_bharat_", shows a person descending a staircase. Toward the end of the clip, a room appears, illuminated by a light, containing two tomb-like structures. WATCH TAJ MAHAL VIRAL VIDEO HERE: According to several media reports, the Archeological Survey of India (ASI), in 2022 released images of two spots where maintenance work was undertaken in shut underground cells on Taj Mahal's riverside. Taj Mahal Structure Taj Mahal was built by Shah Jahan in memory of his wife Arjumand Bano Begum, who was known as Mumtaz Mahal. According to ASI's official website, her mortal remains were temporarily buried in the Zainabad garden; however, sis months later her body was transferred to Agra to finally lay her to rest in the crypt of the main tomb of Taj Mahal. The Taj Mahal is the mausoleum of both Mumtaz Mahal and Shah Jahan. "The main tomb of the Taj is basically square with chamfered corners. The minarets here are detached, facing the chamfered angles (corners) of the main tomb on the main plinth. Red sandstone mosque on the western, and Mehman-Khana on the eastern side of the tomb provides aesthetically a clear colour contrast," as per the ASI website. Taj Mahal Tourism Taj Mahal is widely popular with people coming from all corners of the world to visit the Mughal-era architecture structure that stands as the symbol of love. It was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983 for being 'the jewel of Muslim art in India and one of the universally admired masterpieces of the world's heritage'. It stands as a symbol of Mughal architecture and India's rich history. As per the official website, Taj Mahal attracts around 7 to 8 million visitors a year.
