Indicators' programme
The Board approved the new indicators programme to measure the Award's performance and outcomes. The programme includes 80 precise performance indicators, with the aim of enhancing work efficiency and raising its standards, reflecting a commitment to transparency and professionalism in achieving the Award's objectives.
The Board also reviewed the revenues from endowments allocated to support the Award's various activities and programmes, with a focus on investing these resources sustainably to enhance the Award's pioneering role and its continued approach to instilling volunteer values and social responsibility.
In the context of promoting continuous development, the Board discussed the Award's most prominent achievements and developments, reviewing the Award's digital transformation plan, which aims to facilitate procedures to enhance future efforts to support volunteer work and achieve the Award's vision as a leading platform for spreading the culture of volunteering and encouraging innovative community initiatives.

During the meeting, His Excellency Ahmed Ibrahim Al Mail expressed his appreciation for the generous support and wise guidance the award receives from His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and the wise follow-up of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince, Deputy Ruler, and Chairman of the Executive Council of the Emirate.
Ahmed Al Mail praised the efforts of the board members and their role in enhancing the award's performance. He noted that the adoption of the new indicators programme and the digital transformation plan represent a qualitative shift in the award's journey toward achieving its goals and promoting the values of giving and innovation, which will inspire individuals and institutions to adopt volunteer projects that contribute to achieving sustainable development and strengthening community cohesion.
Al Mail pointed out that SAVW is moving forward in strengthening its pioneering role by adopting innovative tools and programmes that support volunteer work and enhance its outcomes, ensuring the achievement of the award's objectives and reflecting its unwavering commitment to serving the community.
Keeping Up with Challenges and Developing the Award
For his part, Dr. Jassim Al Hammadi, Secretary General of SAVW, emphasised that the award continuously works to consolidate the culture of volunteering across various sectors, to remain a platform that encourages creativity and giving that serves the community and elevates the status of volunteer work in the Emirate of Sharjah.
Al Hammadi explained that adopting an electronic performance measurement programme enhances transparency and the quality of outputs, contributing to consolidating the award's role as an inspiring entity for excellence and creativity in the volunteer field. He emphasised the award's commitment to keeping up with challenges and developing its working mechanisms in line with the vision of the Emirate of Sharjah and its community and humanitarian leadership.
Al Hammadi pointed out that SAVW importance lies in encouraging and motivating volunteer work and establishing the foundation for volunteer work by educating the community to perform constructive volunteer work, which has contributed to the growing community interest in the award year after year.
Qualitative developments
Fatima Musa Al Belushi, Executive Director of SAVW, explained that the meeting also reviewed the award's 2024 results, highlighting its most notable achievements and developments. She noted that the award has organised 21 editions over 22 years since its inception, honouring 1,259 individual and institutional winners across various categories.
Al Belushi added that the previous edition, the 21st edition, dedicated to the 2023 results, achieved remarkable figures, including 125,389 volunteer hours with the participation of 3,038 volunteers, 45 volunteer opportunities, and financial support totaling AED 47,033.
SAVW executive director added that the results of the work demonstrated the qualitative developments seen by the award, especially the expansion of its categories to include 14 diverse categories targeting various segments of society, which enhances the award's comprehensiveness and impact. She noted that the award places special importance on community awareness, as it organized 76 awareness lectures, in addition to specialised awareness publications such as magazines such as "Sharjah Volunteering" and the electronic newsletter "Volunteers", in addition to publications directed at children such as "Little Volunteer Magazine" and other awareness publications.

At the beginning of the meeting, His Highness welcomed the Board members, appreciating their constructive efforts and supportive views on the university's remarkable progress at various academic, research, and administrative levels. His Highness extended his thanks and appreciation to Dr Hamid Majul Al Nuaimi for his significant efforts in leading the university during the past period, which contributed to the university's development in various fields. This is achieved through the continuous development of the scientific research system and the alignment of its academic programmes with global developments and modern technological advancements, in line with the needs of the business sector, 21st-century skills, and the future aspirations of students. His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi expressed his pride in the university's remarkable progress in applied scientific research aimed at serving and developing the community, and in the university's advancement in various international rankings. The Board approved the university's operating budget for the 2025-2026 academic year, amounting to AED 1.27 billion. The Board also approved the graduation of a new batch of students who have completed their graduation requirements by the end of the spring semester of 2024-2025. This total number of graduates is 2,026, including 1,643 bachelor's degrees, 16 postgraduate diplomas, 302 master's degrees, and 65 doctoral degrees. New academic programmes The Board of Trustees also approved several new academic programmes that meet the needs of the changing labour market and provide the necessary competencies for development, thus supporting the economic and social growth of the country and the region. These programmes include: a Doctor of Philosophy in Leadership in Higher Education, a Master of Interior Architecture in Adaptive Reuse, a Master of Science in Safety Engineering, a Master of Science in Innovation and Construction Management, a Master of Laws and Economics, a Professional Master in Shari'a Supervision and Auditing, and a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering. New research centres The Board also approved the establishment of two research centres: the Exeter-Sharjah Centre for Global Studies, which aims to help support interaction and communication between communities and their impact on various aspects of life. The second is the Centre for Advanced Biotechnology, which aims to support advanced interdisciplinary research and enhance international cooperation in vital areas related to sustainable development, innovation, and creativity, and to contribute to achieving research objectives in many important fields, especially in biotechnology. Supporting academic competencies The Board approved the promotion of 22 faculty members, including 8 to the rank of full professor and 14 to associate professor. This reflects the University's commitment to supporting its academic competencies and enhancing its educational and research standing, and is in appreciation of the influential scientific research provided by faculty members, their adoption of modern teaching and learning methods, and their efforts in serving and developing the community. The Board reviewed a report by Dr Essam Al-Din Ajami, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, which addressed the University's performance and achievements during the 2024-2025 academic year. He began by thanking His Highness the President of the University and all partners, including the Board of Trustees, the university family, advisory councils, training and recruitment agencies, and accreditation bodies. EDGE strategic plan Dr Essam Al-Din Ajami also reviewed the achievements of the EDGE strategic plan, which extends until 2030. The plan is centreed around four main pillars: enhancing Emiratisation in academic and administrative positions, achieving full digital transformation, strengthening international and regional cooperation, and supporting innovation and entrepreneurship among students and graduates. The report included indicators of the university's progress in global rankings, the rapidly evolving level of scientific research, and the acquisition of local and international academic accreditations for its programmes, which number 23 doctoral programmes, 58 master's programmes, 62 bachelor's programmes, and four postgraduate diploma programes. It also addressed academic performance evaluations, the feasibility of offered programmes, the appointment of qualified academic staff, the development of the university's internal policies and procedures, and efforts to develop the university's infrastructure, capabilities, community outreach, and local, regional, and global relations. The report highlighted the university's commitment to advancing its efforts to support and improve its good governance and scientific research systems, and to review and develop academic programs by integrating employment skills, artificial intelligence technologies, innovation, and entrepreneurship. The Council also reviewed reports from specialised committees and the Emiratisation Committee, which aim to increase the number of Emirati faculty and administrative staff and provide them with the necessary skills to perform their duties and lead the university to progress. Mohammed bin Rashid honours Water Award winners
The ceremony, held at Emirates Towers in Dubai, was attended by H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai. Overseen by the UAE Water Aid Foundation (Suqia UAE), the Award is organised under the umbrella of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives. In its fourth edition, 12 winners from eight countries were recognised, with total prize money of $1 million. The Award features four main categories: Innovative Projects, Innovative Research and Development, Innovative Individual, and Innovative Crisis Solutions. On this occasion, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum said that the UAE remains committed to expanding its humanitarian impact and leveraging innovation to improve the quality of life for millions of people around the world. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed said, 'Humanity today faces numerous challenges, and the scarcity of clean water is among the most pressing. According to United Nations reports, 2.2 billion people worldwide lack access to safe drinking water, he noted. UNICEF also highlights that more than 1,000 children under the age of five die each day from diseases linked to inadequate water, sanitation, and hygiene. Many communities around the world continue to face severe shortages of clean water. He added, 'As Suqia UAE marks its 10th anniversary, it has successfully implemented over 1,000 sustainable water projects in collaboration with Emirates Red Crescent and other partners, positively impacting the lives of around 15 million people across 37 countries. These efforts have demonstrated that innovative solutions are key to addressing the global water crisis." The Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Water Award—named after an inspirational leader and beacon of hope—serves as a global platform that reinforces the UAE's pioneering role in humanitarian work, grounded in the noble values instilled by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. This legacy, he added, continues under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who said that 'The UAE remains dedicated to supporting hope and inspiring initiatives, serving as a champion of optimism in the Arab world.' Al Tayer added, 'Guided by the vision and directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed, the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Water Award has become a focal point for companies, research centres, institutions, and innovators around the world, given its significant humanitarian and developmental impact. The Award encourages individuals and research institutions to develop innovative, sustainable solutions for the production, desalination, and purification of water using clean energy sources." In its first three editions, the Award recognised a total of 31 winners from 22 countries. The fourth edition attracted applications from 46 countries. Today, the Award honoured 12 winners from eight countries for presenting pioneering innovations that help address the challenge of water scarcity and provide safe drinking water to the most vulnerable communities. The winners of the 'Innovative Projects Award – Large Projects' are Green Waste Solutions Trading DMCC from the UAE, which secured first place for its LANDCO Tech project, which converts organic waste and wastewater into renewable energy, clean drinking water, and bio-fertilisers. The system employs COMBO containers and LANDCO modules powered by solar energy and biogas, integrating AI and blockchain technologies. It has a treatment capacity of 100m³ per day. Second place was awarded to the Sustainability Investment Promotion and Development Joint Stock Company (SIPCO) from Vietnam for its initiative to provide safe drinking water to vulnerable schools and communities. The project uses ceramic impregnated nano-silver pot filters (CSPF) to effectively remove bacteria, viruses, and sediments, benefiting millions globally in a cost-efficient manner. Third place went to Sotrad Water Srl from Belgium for its Pump&Drink® - Hydro1000 solution, a solar-powered system that pumps, treats, stores, and distributes drinking water sustainably. The system is already operational and serves over 200,000 people. Winners of the 'Innovative Projects Award – Small Projects' are the Kumulus SAS from France, which took first place for its 'Kumulus Water – Drinking Water From Air' project. The solar-powered device uses a patented hybrid system to produce around 30 litres of drinking water per day and can be scaled to meet local demand, particularly in schools and rural communities. Jiangsu Fenghai New Energy Seawater Desalination Development Co Ltd, in partnership with Hangzhou Sunup Environmental Technology Co Ltd from China, received second place for their Intelligent Microgrid Seawater Treatment project. Using reverse osmosis and powered by solar or wind energy, the system produces up to 100 tonnes of water daily and supports the residents of ZS Island in China. Third place was awarded to FountAir LTD from Hong Kong for its AIR4WATER project—described as 'The Invisible Solution'. This split VAC-WG system, powered by renewable energy, can provide up to 150 litres of water daily and is being implemented in several countries. Winners of the 'Innovative Research and Development Award – International Institutions' are STEM SAS from France, which took first place for its AQUAHIVE system, an energy-efficient and high-performance membrane distillation technology that uses solar, geothermal, or waste heat energy. The AI-optimised, patented heat exchange process significantly reduces carbon footprint and has a treatment capacity of 0.3m³ per hour. The Energy and Water Company (ENOWA) – NEOM from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia received second place for its innovative project that enables the extraction of valuable minerals—such as salt, lithium, and bromine—while recovering desalinated water from seawater or brackish brine. The solar-powered pilot facility, located at the Duba Desalination Plant, operates at 1,200m³ per day and reduces energy consumption compared to traditional methods. For the 'Innovative Research and Development Award – National Institutions', Khalifa University from the UAE earned first place for its Biomimetic Freshwater Generator for Solar Desalination without Brine Discharge. The system replicates the natural evaporation process of mangrove trees to generate freshwater from seawater while collecting salt as a byproduct, eliminating brine discharge. Using 10 units, the system can produce over five litres of water per day. For the 'Innovative Crisis Solutions Award', first place was awarded to SkyJuice Foundation Inc from Australia for its SkyHydrant Emergency Safe Water Solution. This lightweight, portable ultrafiltration system produces more than 5,000 litres of potable water daily and has been deployed in 74 countries to support communities facing crises and natural disasters. For the 'Innovative Individual Award – Distinguished Research Award', Professor Guihua Yu from the United States received first place for his breakthrough technologies in solar-powered water purification and atmospheric water harvesting. His contributions include solar desalination using energy hydrogels, a solar-powered atmospheric water harvester, and biodegradable nanocellulose-based hydrogel filters. He holds more than 20 patents and leads a research centre at the University of Texas focused on sustainability and water innovation. For the 'Innovative Individual Award – Youth Award', Zhenyuan Xu from China was awarded first place for his Passive Solar Distillation system, which delivers ultra-high efficiency and extreme salt resistance. The system can produce more than 1.5 gallons of fresh water per hour per square metre of solar collection area. Affordable and field-tested, it supports sustainable development goals through education and community engagement.
