Saudi FM Slams Israel's Obstruction of Arab Delegation Visit to Ramallah
Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan sharply criticized Israel on Sunday for obstructing the Arab-Islamic Ministerial Committee's scheduled visit to Ramallah, describing the move as a clear reflection of Israel's 'extremism and rejection of peace.'
Speaking at a press conference in Amman following an extraordinary meeting of the committee focused on the Gaza crisis, Prince Faisal stressed that the only viable resolution to the Israel-Palestine conflict lies in the creation of an independent Palestinian state.
Support for Palestinian Authority and Reform Agenda
The Saudi foreign minister expressed the committee's support for the reform agenda being pursued by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
'Despite facing an adversary that refuses to consider any solutions, the Palestinian Authority continues to honor its responsibilities and commitments,' he said. 'It remains the rational and legitimate party in this crisis.'
Prince Faisal underscored the importance of recognizing the Palestinian leadership's efforts to reform internal governance despite ongoing conflict, portraying them as acting in the interests of both their people and the broader international community.
Condemnation of Israel's Escalating Violence
Prince Faisal condemned Israel's conduct in Gaza and the West Bank, calling it 'a war of extermination' and a deliberate attempt to dismantle the Palestinian cause.
'In Gaza, we see nothing but destruction. In the West Bank, steps are being taken to systematically weaken the Palestinian national movement,' he said. 'Israel's actions—including blocking our delegation—expose its unwillingness to engage in any peaceful process.'
Call for Concrete International Support for Two-State Solution
The Saudi minister reiterated that Arab and Islamic countries remain united in their demand for a sovereign Palestinian state. He also urged international actors—particularly in Europe—to adopt firmer stances that go beyond verbal support.
'Those who claim to support the two-state solution must back that position with tangible steps, including the formal recognition of Palestine,' he stated. 'Such recognition sends a strong signal to Israel that peace requires coexistence, not occupation.'
Obstruction of Arab Delegation Confirmed
The Arab-Islamic Ministerial Committee had planned to visit Ramallah on Sunday, but the visit was canceled due to Israel's refusal to allow the delegation's aircraft access to the occupied West Bank airspace, as confirmed by a statement from the Jordanian Foreign Ministry.
'This blatant obstruction speaks volumes about Israel's stance on international diplomatic efforts,' Prince Faisal said.
Regional Cooperation and Continued Advocacy
Prince Faisal arrived in Jordan as part of the committee's wider diplomatic tour aimed at ending the war and lifting the blockade on Gaza. He also met with Jordan's King Abdullah, during which the Palestine issue remained central to discussions.
'The Arab-Islamic Committee will continue its global advocacy to push for a just and lasting peace,' Prince Faisal concluded, 'and we will not accept any resolution that falls short of full Palestinian sovereignty.'

Israeli forces block journalists from Palestinian Oscar winner's village
Israeli forces yesterday blocked an international media tour in the occupied West Bank, preventing journalists from entering the village of Oscar-winning Palestinian director Basel Adra who decried worsening Israeli violence. Adra's film "No Other Land" chronicles the forced displacement of Palestinians by Israeli troops and settlers in Masafer Yatta, an area in the southern West Bank that Israel declared a restricted military zone in the 1980s. Journalists from AFP and other international media travelled to Tuwani at the invitation of Adra, who lives in the village, and co-director Yuval Abraham, seeking to draw attention to a spate of house demolitions and violent incidents in recent weeks. At the entrance to Tuwani, the journalists as well as a Palestinian Authority delegation were blocked by Israeli forces, who said they had a warrant to set up a one-day checkpoint. Abraham called the roadblock a "good example" of what he said was Israeli authorities' involvement in attacks against Palestinians in Masafer Yatta. Adra said the violence was "getting worse and worse". "Settler violence increased, the demolitions carried out by Israeli soldiers and authorities against our homes and schools and properties is increasing in very crazy and high numbers," he told AFP. An Israeli officer who refused to give his name told AFP the force was at the entrance to Tuwani to "keep the public order". "There were violent clashes between settlers, Jews, Arabs, journalists, and to prevent these violent clashes, we decided not to allow passage today," the officer said. Adra said that last week, settlers had entered the nearby Palestinian hamlet of Khallet al-Dabaa, which was bulldozed by the Israeli army in early May, with the Israelis harassing the residents who remained despite the destruction.
