Trump DOUBLES bounty on head of ‘Putin's Man in South America' Venezuelan dictator Maduro to $50MILLION

CARACAS KINGPIN Trump DOUBLES bounty on head of 'Putin's Man in South America' Venezuelan dictator Maduro to $50MILLION DONALD Trump has announced a historic $50million bounty on Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro who faces federal drug trafficking charges. The Justice Department accused Maduro of leading a cocaine trafficking gang called "The Cartel of the Suns" that shipped hundreds of tons of narcotics into the US. 1 Venezuela's President Nicolas Maduro Credit: Alamy Washington, which does not recognize Maduro's past two election victories, accuses the South American country's leader of leading a cocaine trafficking gang. "Today, the Department of Justice and State Department are announcing a historic $50 million reward for information leading to the arrest of Nicolas Maduro," Attorney General Pam Bondi said in a video on social media. "He is one of the largest narco-traffickers in the world and a threat to our national security." The previous bounty was set in January at $25 million. Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil said Bondi's "pathetic" bounty was "the most ridiculous smokescreen we have ever seen." "The dignity of our homeland is not for sale. We reject this crude political propaganda operation," Gil said on Telegram. In 2020, during President Donald Trump's first term in office, Maduro and other high-ranking Venezuelan officials were indicted in federal court in New York on several charges including participating in a "narco-terrorism" conspiracy. Investigators say the cartel worked hand-in-hand with the rebel Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), which the United States has labeled a terrorist organization. The US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) "has seized 30 tons of cocaine linked to Maduro and his associates, with nearly seven tons linked to Maduro himself," Bondi said. The US government has also seized more than $700 million in Maduro-linked assets, including two Venezuelan government aircraft, since September last year, according to Bondi. "Yet Maduro's reign of terror continues," she said. "Under President Trump's leadership, Maduro will not escape justice and he will be held accountable for his despicable crimes." The 62-year-old Maduro, a former bus driver and trade unionist, faces up to life in prison if he can be tried and is convicted At the time of the indictment, Maduro slammed what he called "spurious, false" accusations. In June, Venezuela's former intelligence chief Hugo Armando Carvajal pleaded guilty to US drug trafficking and narco-terrorism charges. More to follow... Obsessed stalker with ‘erotomania' bombarded Channel 4 actress Anna Friel with sexual messages & left gifts at her home

STAR'S ORDEAL Obsessed stalker with 'erotomania' bombarded Channel 4 actress Anna Friel with sexual messages & left gifts at her home A STALKER with "erotomania" bombarded Channel 4 actress Anna Friel with sexual messages and unwanted gifts for three years. Phil Appleton, who is 71, chillingly turned up at the 49-year-old star's house multiple times. The pensioner from Windsor in Berkshire is described online as an actor and retired pilot. He has been in custody for six months and spent time in a mental health facility. Appleton was due to stand trial, with special measures put in place to mitigate Friel's "fear and distress" while giving evidence. Advertisement However, this was called off after he performed a U-turn and admitted to stalking the Channel 4 star. Yesterday, Reading Crown Court heard Appleton has been diagnosed with a condition called erotomania, along with bipolar. Erotomania is characterised by a person's delusions of another person being in love with them, and usually affects women rather than men. It usually fixates on someone of a higher social status or a celebrity, but can extend to someone who is fictional or has died. Advertisement A psychiatrist told the court Appleton would need to be monitored by mental health professionals and he was unable to say if his fixation would ever end. Judge Alan Blake asked probation services to prepare a report on Appleton, and said he had a 'lack of full understanding and acknowledgement of the impact of his behaviour on the victim'. He said: 'It is more likely [that] consistent treatment will help him to contain his feeling and reduce the risk of stalking. It is plain that, on a number of occasions, Mr Appleton has indicated that he does not think he is unwell or needs to take his medication and has desisted in so doing.' Appleton was granted bail on the condition he not contact the actress or enter the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead. Advertisement The judge declined to allow him to stay at an address in France, instead ordering him to remain at a family member's home in Suffolk. The pensioner is due to be sentenced on September 18. Friel rose to fame with her role as Beth Jordache in Channel 4 soap opera Brookside - making history for sharing the first-ever, pre-watershed lesbian kiss. She went on to star as Charlotte "Chuck" Charles in the ABC comedy series Pushing Daisies. In 2017, she won the International Emmy for Best Actress for her leading role in the ITV and Netflix series Marcella. Advertisement

Dog walker who 'pushed cyclist into canal' speaks up after furious response

A dog walker embroiled in controversy for allegedly shoving a cyclist into a canal in Greater Manchester has broken his silence. The incident, captured on the cyclist's camera, shows Klaudia Mitura, 34, halting abruptly on the Ashton Canal towpath in Manchester as a man seems to yell at her to 'slow down'. Klaudia is heard arguing about their dog, but the man snaps back 'yeah but you're on a f**king bike'. He then brands her 'a f***king idiot', and the video captures Klaudia tumbling into the water. Klaudia, from Manchester, insists she was pushed and was terrified she might 'drown' since her feet were clipped to the bike pedals, complicating her escape. The tale sparked a deluge of comments and reactions on the Manchester Evening News website and Facebook page, with readers fervently debating who was at fault. The dog walker, now eager to clear his name, has spoken up. The 35-year-old, who wished to remain anonymous, refutes the accusation of pushing Klaudia, alleging instead that she struck him with her handlebars. We were walking down the canal, as you do. "A lady came down at a ridiculous speed. I thought she was going to hit my missus and my dog. I thought my family was in danger. "She's carried on to ride towards me. Then she's clipped me with the handlebars and she's gone into the canal. I didn't push her." Klaudia, a mother of two on her regular cycle to work, feared for her life when she found herself in the canal as she can't swim. She recounted that she stood on a rock and was in the water for five minutes before a passer-by noticed her plight and came to her aid. The machine operator, originally from Poland, alleges that the couple she accuses did glance back but failed to ascertain whether she was alright or at risk of drowning. He explained: "After it happened, I turned around. I said to her 'are you okay?' She told me to f**k off. "She was stood up. She wasn't stood on a rock. The canal was waist high." He added: "She was totally in the wrong. I'm just a normal working guy like anybody else but at the moment I'm just being slandered." Greater Manchester Police are currently looking into the incident. Subscribe to our newsletter for the latest news from the Irish Mirror direct to your inbox: Sign up here.
