Himachal Board to re-check Class 12 English marks after wrong answer key used

India Today22-05-2025

The Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education (HPBOSE) has confirmed it will re-evaluate Class 12 English paper marks after a 'human error' caused incorrect evaluation for many students. Turns out, the wrong answer key was used while checking the papers. This mistake came to light soon after the Class 12 board results were declared on Saturday. Many students were shocked to see unusually low marks in English, and several complaints poured in.advertisementHOW THE ERROR HAPPENEDThe paper had already faced a hiccup earlier. It was supposed to be held on March 8, but was rescheduled to March 29 after a mix-up at a school in Chamba district. Teachers there mistakenly opened the Class 12 English paper instead of the Class 10 one on March 7.
After the results were out, the Himachal Pradesh Government Teachers Union and private school associations raised concerns. This pushed Education Minister Rohit Thakur to ask for a full review. An inquiry by HPBOSE confirmed the wrong answer key had been uploaded. According to the board's secretary Vishal Sharma, this led to marks being wrongly awarded.WHAT HAPPENS NOWThe board has said only those students who scored lower than expected will have their answer sheets checked again. Importantly, marks will only go up, not down, in the revised results which will be announced soon.advertisementThis fix is a relief for many students who were stressed about the unexpected drop in their English scores. Keep an eye on the HPBOSE website for updates.(With PTI inputs)

Russia outlaws British Council as ‘undesirable organisation'

Russia on Thursday (June 5, 2025) banned the British Council as an 'undesirable organisation', as Moscow branded London the architect of global crisis and 'instigator of wars'. Relations between the two countries were at rock bottom even before Russia launched its full-scale military offensive on Ukraine in 2022, soured by a slew of espionage and interference scandals, including the 2018 poisoning of former Russian spy Sergei Skripal on British soil. Also read | War and talks: On Russia and Ukraine Russia's prosecutor general accused the British Council of trying to promote British interests 'under the guise of teaching English' and of supporting the 'LGBT movement', which Russia has outlawed as 'extremist'. 'Various projects are being implemented to systematically discredit the domestic and foreign policies of the Russian Federation,' it added. Moscow has labelled dozens of Western-backed organisations 'undesirable', a designation that outlaws their work in Russia and makes anybody who works for them liable to years-long jail sentences. State media reported that the FSB security services, which said it provided evidence for the decision, called Britain 'the main source of global crises, a provocateur and instigator of wars'. 'London organises coups, weakens not only its geopolitical enemies but also its closest allies, pits nations against each other and prevents the resolution of bloody conflicts that it unleashed,' Russia's RIA Novosti quoted the FSB as saying in a statement. Britain has been one of Ukraine's strongest backers since Russia began its military offensive. Russia under President Vladimir Putin has for years cracked down on independent civil society, outlawing groups and prosecuting dissenters in a campaign that has escalated amid the Ukraine conflict and been widely slammed by rights groups and the West.

NewJeans refuses to reach a mutual agreement with ADOR amid the contract dispute case; cites breaking of trust and mistreatment

The NewJeans and ADOR case has taken a completely new turn as the second court hearing was held. The contractual dispute between NewJeans and their management agency has been going on for months, with their second hearing for the case only held recently. In new reports, the K-pop group has refused to reach and negotiate any 'mutual agreements,' citing mistreatment. NewJeans refuses negotiations for mutual agreement In the second hearing half for the dispute case held on June 4, girl group NewJeans completely refused to reach a mutual settlement with their management agency. According to reports in Maeil Business Newspaper, the group was recommended by the 41st Civil Agreement Division of the Seoul Central District Court to reach a settlement with their former agency in order to put the overall case to rest. At the hearing, the girl group completely refused to reach any kind of settlement with the company. ADOR, on the other hand, has expressively made comments that they are willing and open for any kind of mutual settlement talks with the girl group. In a statement they shared that 'once the court's conclusion comes out, a settlement will be easier afterward." Unable to settle due to mistreatment The group cited that due to the trust that has been broken, they cannot settle for any mutual agreement. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trading CFD dengan Teknologi dan Kecepatan Lebih Baik IC Markets Mendaftar Undo They also shared that the decision is also influenced by the kind of mistreatment they had to undergo during their time with the management company. In a short statement, NewJeans stated that "trust has been completely broken. There's no turning back." They have also shared that their management did not protect the girls from favoritism and partiality, sharing that this went against their contract and that the company was in breach of it. NewJeans' legal representative also issued a statement after being asked by the court whether the girls would be willing to negotiate a settlement deal. In the statement, their legal representative replied with, "The defendants' mental conditions and such things do not seem to be in a situation where we can think of an agreement at this time." More about NewJeans' legal dispute The contractual dispute case has been going on since November last year. The group and their management agency went into a legal battle as the group announced the termination of their contract with the company during a press conference. Their management then later on filed a lawsuit against the group, citing that "just because you unilaterally claim that trust has been broken cannot be a reason for termination." The court later ruled in the company's favor, barring the girls from holding any solo and independent activities under their group name.
