Las Vegas sergeant praised for compassion after Tesla explosion
LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – A Las Vegas Metro sergeant was honored for going above and beyond the call of duty following a Tesla Cybertruck explosion at Trump International Hotel on New Year's Day.
Las Vegas Metro Sgt. Jesse Brambilla was honored with the LVMPD Foundation's Good Ticket Award for his compassion and care after several witnesses' clothing had to be taken in as evidence by police. The witnesses were then only left with hazmat suits.

Brambilla then spent about $400 of his own money to help purchase clothing for the witnesses who were visiting Las Vegas.
'I can only imagine if you are traveling and you are away from home, you don't necessarily speak the language and then this happens to you,' Brambilla said. 'Any sort of comfort we can give some is important, right? Especially for victims, victims care. It's just the basic thing to do.'
The driver who set off the explosion outside the Trump International Hotel on New Year's Day was an active-duty soldier who shot himself before the detonation, according to officials.
As part of the recognition for Brambilla's act of compassion Resorts World provided him with a complimentary hotel stay and tickets to a headliner show.
The LVMPD Foundation's 'Good Ticket' award honors and highlights the kindness and urgency displayed by the officers and is meant to show the profound impact that thoughtful and humane policing has on individuals, families, and the community.

Lipstick vandalism? The latest Boise-area attack on a Tesla involved makeup
A 2024 Tesla Cybertruck was given an extreme makeover about 1:50 p.m. Wednesday in the Boise area, after a vandal smeared lipstick across the truck's stainless steel surface. The suspect, who was seen arriving in a red sedan, is suspected of causing an estimated $500 worth of damage to the vehicle, according to a news release from the Meridian Police Department. Police reported that they had identified a suspect by Friday afternoon. The lipstick was used to draw on the side of the Tesla Cybertruck, but what was drawn and the shade of lipstick were not disclosed in the news release. This crime comes amid a long string of Tesla-related vandalisms, one of which occurred in April and involved $100,000 in damages after an individual vandalized vehicles and property at the Tesla dealership in Meridian. The FBI was contacted during that incident. In a survey of more than 500 Tesla owners, conducted by Guardian Service, an online insurer, it was determined that nearly half reported instances of intentional damage to their vehicle. Moreover, as tensions continue to rise between those who own Tesla cars and those who oppose Elon Musk, nearly three-fourths of Tesla owners who responded feel as though they are more likely to be victims of targeted vehicle-related vandalism than those who don't drive Teslas.

Man pleads no contest to shooting Delano K-9
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A man pleaded no contest Wednesday to nine charges filed in connection with an incident on New Year's Day 2022 in which he allegedly shot a Delano police dog then pointed the gun at officers. Eduardo Figueroa, 41, faces 20 years and eight months in prison at sentencing in August. He pleaded no contest to harming a police dog, six counts of assault with a gun on a peace officer, possession of a gun by a felon and recklessly evading police. The dog, Axel, survived. Bullet fragments were found near his right shoulder and along the shoulder and neck area near the spinal column. According to court filings, Figueroa led McFarland police on a chase through the city, speeding and running stop signs, before stopping at East Sherwood Avenue and San Lucas Street. He refused to leave the car. A K-9 was requested from Delano police. Axel was released and 'apprehended Figueroa through the open driver's side door,' the filings say. Figueroa fired at least twice, the filings say. Then seven officers opened fire, wounding him. He dropped the gun and was taken to Kern Medical, where he recovered. He was booked into jail once medically cleared. Figueroa told a sheriff's investigator he shot the dog to avoid getting bit, then pointed the gun at officers. A detective asked if he expected to get shot. 'Of course I did,' Figueroa said according to the filings. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
