TxDOT urges seatbelt use every time during vehicle entry

WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) — The Texas Department of Transportation's Annual Click It Or Ticket campaign has started. Across the state, troopers, police officers, and sheriffs' deputies will step up seatbelt enforcement. Texas law requires everyone in a vehicle to be secured or face fines and fees up to $200. Children younger than 8 years old must be in a child safety seat or booster seat unless they're taller than four feet nine inches. If they aren't properly restrained, the driver will face fines up to $250 plus court costs. The 'Click It or Ticket' Campaign ends Sunday, June 1, but TxDOT reminds everyone to buckle up every time they step into a vehicle. Wearing a seatbelt reduces the risk of dying in a collision by 45% for people in the front seat of passenger cars and up to 60% for people in pickup trucks. Sadly, 1,069 people who failed to buckle up died in crashes in Texas in 2024. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
