Regina city council fires city manager Niki Anderson
Regina city manager Niki Anderson has been terminated by council, effective immediately.
The decision came on Wednesday at council's regular meeting after a report was put forward by Mayor Chad Bachynski.
According to the report, Anderson will be paid a severance.
City clerk Jim Nicol will continue to serve as interim city manager until a new replacement is found.
Ward 8 Coun. Shanon Zachidniak was against the motion.

Article content (On Saturday through next weekend's finals, Sportsnet's regular, top-notch tennis crews were back in action in both Montreal and Toronto, as were the network's own producers.) Article content Even that development has come with some trimmed corners, however. There will be production crews on site at both venues, as well as those calling the action. Studio coverage will be from Rogers headquarters, however, eliminating the possibility of big-name players dropping by the set for interviews. Tennis Canada officials had purposely scheduled the popular Canadian in prime time and on the stadium court to maximize the audience — a win-win exposure wise. Article content Article content Where the communication broke down between Sportsnet and ATP's in-house folks remains to be seen. Article content 'Obviously what happened, we didn't want that to happen,' Hale said, according to the Canadian Press. 'We're going to have those discussions (on Sportsnet producing the full event in future years.) We've already started it. So I think there will be a better solution going forward as we move along.'

Bill 89 faces constitutional challenge from McGill law professors, unions

(Graham Hughes / The Canadian Press) A group of McGill University law professors has joined a legal challenge to Bill 89, which expands the powers of Quebec's labour minister to intervene in strikes. The Association of McGill Professors of Law and three other unions argue that the law is unconstitutional and are petitioning the court to declare it invalid. The unions say the law 'significantly' restricts the right to strike by broadening the definition of what is an essential service and allows Labour Minister Jean Boulet to unilaterally end any strike. 'This legislation directly threatens our fundamental rights and our collective bargaining power,' the association said in a press release. Boulet, who introduced the law adopted in May, has defended it by saying Quebec has far more strikes than any other province. The legislation has faced widespread criticism from several of the province's largest unions.
